    I have 11,000 miles on my '22 with absolutely no issues.
    Not even the common speedo.
    Original battery too.
    Red chrome version in those days probably not the best paint and chrome work but they gave me new parts.
    Dealer is great.
    I don't consider any of these things a problem but that's me.

      I'm glad you have had 11,000 miles of trouble free smiles. This issue, is not detracting from my enjoyment of the bike. Yes its a niggle and could have been avoided, but such is the case for so many things in life.

    There's a lot of gubbins but it goes back together in a fairly obvious way at least, if you look at Part 18 in my Classic 350 playlist you'll see how it all goes together....pretty much 🤪

      Your series is surely the Go-To video manual on the bike ! ... I think if the chap is able it would be better for him to do it himself for peace of mind , ... or drop it round to you 🤣

      Thanks Glyn, I have seen your episodes, which are a great reference by the way. I will recheck out part 18 a suggested, especially if the dealer does not come through I will source the part myself and fix it. I love the bike and will be doing some customisations myself so that might be a good opportunity to get stuck in.

    It’s great news that you are planning a weekly blog! Thank you.
    You may find that you are in for a long wait for an Enfield warranty part… my rear break disk is warped and they have accepted that it needs a warranty replacement, over 12 months and still waiting. I do hope that yours is quicker!

    • @TheNorfolkRider-p3v
      @TheNorfolkRider-p3v  27 дней назад +1

      One of my main concerns, along with the dealer never having had to replace one and it being such a big labour intensive job. Watch out for the updates.

  • @jonathandeeley6276
    @jonathandeeley6276 28 дней назад +2

    I think any techy worth his salt will sort that regardless of whether they are RE experienced or not. All they need to do is take photos before stripping it down or use a showroom bike as a reference.
    The main issue will be obtaining the casing, RE UK are crap, and I wouldn't be surprised if it takes months rather than weeks to get the parts, I could write a book about this lot from my experiences with them alone! However, don't let that put you off the bike, they're great machines, I'm on my 3rd!! Plus I have the Meteor 350, both of which are super reliable.🙂👍

      Your spot on with the lead time to get parts. This is not just A RE problem, I had a BMW R9T scrambler the binnacle/speedo died after four months and it took them 4 months to get one in as a replacement. That said the dealer did see me right with a full jacket, trousers deal FOC as compensation. Not so sure i would get that from RE for a four month wait but then bikes in a different league. Thanks for the comment.

    Hi I have the same bike which had the same problem with the battery case and cover.Before reporting it to the dealer I looked at the problem and could see the outer metal battery cover was bent so I gently put it back into shape using a cloth so not to mark the panel.Now it fits over the plastic battery carrier perfect.Looking at the job it would have been to replace the complete box entailed humongous stripping down of the bike which I didn't want on a brand new bike.Hope this helps Wayne.

    • @TheNorfolkRider-p3v
      @TheNorfolkRider-p3v  27 дней назад +1

      Thanks for that insight Wayne. The problem in this case is an actual kink in the plastic cowling at the bottom, which in turn distorts the aperture itself. The cover is fine. Im with you on the strip down. that said I have some ideas about customisation so that might not be such an issue. I will go into my plans in a future episode.

    Well, I only watched this as I've just had problems with my BSA dealer (THOR Motorcycles) and although your issue is probably a bigger one, you got a much more benign response from your dealer, whereas mine, shouted at me, behaved in an intimidating fashion and lied about it to the distributor when I complained. I won't go further with that explanation at present, but suffice it to say that when you breakdown on an isolated moorland road with electrical problems, you expect some kind of positive response. Videos coming in due course, but for now, I'm curious as to the outcome of your issue, so subbed.

    • @TheNorfolkRider-p3v
      @TheNorfolkRider-p3v  26 дней назад

      First thanks for the Sub, much appreciated. It's unfortunate and disgraceful that any dealer treats customers in this way, I hope you get a satisfactory outcome in the end. Any possibility to approach another dealer? Another dealer might look after you to try and develop a long term relationship. I know that maybe a bit of a stretch given your location as you might not have too many around, but worth a try.

  • @michaelnicholson5218

    Hi, Glad you had a positive response on the warrenty.
    I would expect ( but dont know) that RE would baulk at UK labour rates.
    With that in mind, the dealer will probably be paid a meager labour rate and will therefore do the job as fast as possible.
    That said, if you are able , my advice would be do the job yourself.
    It would be worth it to me just for peace of mind it's done right.
    I didn't even take mine back for the 300ml service.
    Yes, they warned me that I wouldn't have warrenty, but I documented everything and used RE parts with reciepts from thr RE dealer.
    My view is, if it's not their bike, then they dont really care and you get the inconvenience and frustration.
    Once the battery is out what harm can you do?
    I think I would try to negotiate some extra spares in exchange for their labour charges.!!!!!
    Obviously I dont know your dealers, but hey it's the motor trade, and I havnt found an honest one yet in more than 40 years.
    Trust is a very expensive commodity in very short supply these days.
    Good luck.

      Mike n i got a second hand meteor from a royal enfield dealer with 300 miles on the clock, they said it had the 300 mile service done, ive allways worked in mechanical engineering and have done the servicing on all bikes new bikes i have ever owned, the dealers dont like it, i prove to them i have more qualifications and experiance than there technicians but alledgedly i need to be a vat registered company for my warranty to exist, there has been times where i have fixed problems that the (experts) couldnt fix and that specific dealer contacted me 6 months later telling me they had started to encounter the same problem and could i tell them how to fix the problem! I told them i wasnt vat registered 😂. On my next meteor service i decided to check the so called allready adjusted tappets. I got the service bits from the dealer and low and behold they didnt stock the rocker cover joint, you dont need one, we have never needed one they said, with suspicion i got one from hitchcocks, and yes i needed it because the factory use sealant on the cam end and the gasket ripped, no way of saving it and no the tappets where way to tight and once set correctly i noticed a stronger pulling engine. I,m not vat registered but neither is the 17 year old trainee that services your bike for 80 pound an hour and dont know how to take your rocker off to adjust 2 valves. I never trust the main dealers sorry about the essay😢

      IHi,
      Im in my 70,s now, and had a lot of bikes and cars etc over the years.
      As I can recall, only two bike dealers ( family owned garages and one Seat main dealer) are the only times I have recieved the service expected.
      The rest were absolute bandits, including Ford, and Vauxhall main dealers,
      Believe me I've been there, and have worn out many teashirts from the bandits, there are too many stories to list.
      My advice is, if you are capable, spend your money on good quality tools , an official workshop manual, and OEM parts, and
      do the job yourself.
      You will find it's not that difficult, !!!
      Regards MikeN.

    2021 Meteor owner here. Only because the Classic 350 wasn't available at the time here in the US. Is there a way you could carefully heat the deformed plastic with a hair dryer/heat gun and gently bend it back to proper shape? Then relocate/shim the cover hinge to fit properly? Of course, you will want to wait for Warranty claim to proceed but if that comes to nought there may be a way to simply repair the affected part. Enjoying your channel. I love riding my Meteor. As is often said it's a Zen like experience.

    • @TheNorfolkRider-p3v
      @TheNorfolkRider-p3v  24 дня назад +1

      This, has crossed my mind and could be a potential fix. If for some reason the Warranty claim does not go according to plan then it may very well be. Something to try. I love the meteor and was torn between the two, but the classic beat it to the line as I do love the look. I keep seeing some great deals here in the UK and I do have an itch to do a custom job on a meteor so you never know it would not be unthinkable that a Meteor is added to my stable at some point. Stay safe and happy riding.

    Pre-Delivery Inspection should have picked up the pannel and loose footpeg so that is a dealer issue. That said, to replace the defective part, the work in man-hours costs will probably exceed any profit the company made on the bike. However, the bike was not of 'merchantable quality' and you have every right to demand the faults are corrected.

    Chromed parts that have welds tend to start rusting in the crevice where the edge of the welds meets the part that it's welded to. Some manufacturers overspray this area with a grey paint or some such similar coating in order to delay the rusting process. Quite a common practice I think.

    Just so you know most if not all of the RE that get shipped from India to Uk or North America have to be built by the dealer they arrive at, at least mine was so the dealer might have put the box in incorrectly in the first place

    • @TheNorfolkRider-p3v
      @TheNorfolkRider-p3v  26 дней назад

      Very Interesting, I was aware that some components are bolted together by the dealer, as is the case for most bike imports. But if the dealer has to assemble core components it does beg the question who has responsibility from a warranty perspective. I mean, RE are not going to accept a warranty claim for something the dealer has done incorrectly. I would assume in that case the financial burden would be entirely with the dealer to put right with little or no financial backup from RE. That might mean the dealer changes his tune very quickly if they have complete a big job at their own expense. Time will tell.

    If you wish and your not happy with the bike it's like any other product if it's not fit for purpose you can actually take it back to the dealer and ask for either your money back or a replacement bike. I would agree to a point. That said, Modern Enfields, whilst they can have some minor niggles, mechanically there do seem to be very robust and reliable out on the road, which cannot be said for all brands and I speak from experience. There's virtually no motorcycle manufacturer out there who does not have issues, and many of are far far worse than Royal Enfields, including High cost brands such as KTM and BMW, even Honda have had there problems on certain models.

      It's frustrating but luckily my issue does not stop me using it. The lead time for parts is not only a RE issue, I had an issue with a BMW scrambler about 6 years ago when a speedo failed and it took nearly four months for the issue to be rectified. Others I know have had similar problems. It could be a said that overall parts availability with RE is better than most due third part providers like Hitchcockes and Tec bike parts manufacturing and stocking parts.

      Everyday is a school day, and even with my decades of experience buying bikes missed it. I think primarily because it was right at the bottom and not easily visible and the battery cover itself still shut and locked. I think you can really look over new bikes, cars or any other purchase for that matter and it's only when you become more familiar with it do you start to notice things. If I buy another modern Enfield at some point which will likely happen, I'm now much more aware of the issues to look out for, as will anyone who watches these particular episodes which was always my aim in making them.

      Having lived in several countries where authorised dealers were non-existent, ordering the part(s) directly from source, paying for door to door DHL courier service and import duties was then my first (and only) option. Tough on the wallet, but fast. In this case I'd guess 5 working days from receipt of order in India to arrival on your UK doorstep. It bypasses many unnecessary obstacles. Although the Blessed Virgin was seen in Lourdes in 1858 I take an agnostic position on bike warranty claims. On the other hand, I once had to take a Ténéré frame as cabin luggage.

    As I've mentioned before, the biggest problem with the 'All New Classic 350', is that it isn't all new. it is based on a generic modern frame, which is shared by two very different bikes. These bikes were designed for it. The 'Classic' was not. Royal Enfield took what is basically a 3D photocopy of a Classic 500 and used plastic mouldings to make it stick to the new frame and look a bit like a Classic 500. These large mouldings will age and warp/crack in time, even if they fitted well in the first place. It's a bit like sticking plastic skins over the shell of a Ford Mondeo and calling it the 'All New Triumph Stag'. From a distance it may look a bit like a Triumph Stag but it's fake. When the plastic cracks and when you have all that complicated wiring that there is on the new 350, the illusion falls apart. Blimey, the battery on the new 350 isn't even inside the battery box. It's fake.
