    i was 17. a couple years later i mail ordered the american football album along with rainer maria's first 2 CDs and braid's frame and canvas from the label. i never would have guessed american football would gain a cult following from a whole new generation while those other equally amazing bands were forgotten.

    • @mxbray
      @mxbray  5 лет назад +4

      pancakerepairman American Football definitely had a major comeback and more of a legendary status because of how short lived they originally we're, but Braid and Rainer Maria both released new albums fairly recently and when they play shows they still sell a good amount of tickets. They're just not as active as American Football these days.

    It's really interesting to imagine being there at this show... this kind of sound (the twinkly guitars, the math rock and emo mix, the post-rock atmosphere) was completely new. No bands had ever really produced this exact type of sound before, it must have been so strange and almost jarring to hear it at first.
    I mean sure, there was Slint in Kentucky that developed some of the jagged math rock/post-rock influences AF uses, but even Spiderland just doesn't come close to this vibe (and that's one of my favourite albums). Maybe I'm overanalyzing it but to me that just seems so cool - being the first people in the world to hear what would become a pioneering sound.
