God, I love Prompto mostly because he’s actually so relatable and seems so real. I feel like I’d know someone like Prompto or even *be* Prompto, especially with his need to be apart of the group and how much of an outsider he truly is (being from niflhiem and *not* apart related to anyone high ranking in Lucis). He worked so hard to just get friends. And his loyalty and friendship to Noct. That’s my aesthetic right there considering how they contrast each other yet are still the same and relate. There’s so much to him OOF I love my boy and I hate he wasn’t given a bigger role but he’s sort of kind of apart of some prophecy so I guess that’ll do idk. TL;DR: PROMPTO IS A BEAUTIFUL PEICE OF SUNSHINE AND I LOVE HIM AND HE DESERVES THE WORLD.
I actually never realized Prompto wore leopard-print pants. I just thought they were black. And sure, Prompto may not be important to the story, but I do believe that his importance lies with Noctis. He's Noctis' very best and closest friend, the first to reach out to him and be a genuine friend, rather than just sucking up to him to get on his good side because he's the prince. His close friendship with Prompto is shown when he gets knocked off the train; Noctis is about ready to cry in rage and frustration upon thinking that his best friend is gone. And you are right, Prompto is the heart of the group. The others are more likely to smile and joke around when Prompto is around. And when posing, they all just act like a group of goofballs. Even the serious and fairly stoic Ignis.
Noctis? Ignis? Gladiolus? I can take them or leave (particularly Gladiolus), but Prompto? He's best boy to me, because he's the most relatable, and the most approachable, at least in my opinion. I know what it's like to feel like you don't stack up with people who are clearly better than you, who are more skilled, more talented, more "superior", basically making you feel like you're shit in comparison. He's just as wrapped up in his insecurities as I am. That's why his talk with Noctis means a lot - he can't open up about that stuff with Gladiolus (who is too masculine, and closed off anyway), and Ignis is cool and all, but Noctis just has that vibe where you can tell him stuff and he will just listen (because he seems introspective anyway). Characters like Prompto are so great for me. He's had the most...well, relatable development in the game in my opinion. It's the reason I'm attached to the XIII cast. They all had flaws that they needed to overcome, setbacks that took multiple games to resolve (particularly Lightning - don't care how much anyone hates her character, but Lightning's development in that last game of the trilogy and how they tackled it was extremely engaging to see).
Ignus is the car, Gladio the terrain, and Noct (the player) the passenger. Prompto is the music. You love some of it, you like others, and some you can do without, but in the end if you took it away the game would feel incomplete.
I agree with you, Prompto was the reason I enjoyed this game so much and he was definitely my favourite character in the whole game. I really likes that the fleshed him out a bit and I felt really bad for him following the events of the game after he got seperated from the others. He might be a bit cringy at times but I honestly thought he was being more fun than cringey.
Prompto isn’t super important but he held the group together in the emotional sense. His origins (barcode) are also the reason Noctis could get to the crystal and his photography made us all emotional in the end. It gave Noctis something to hold onto. He is best boy.
I absolutely love Prompto, from the moment I saw him. I can relate to hiding insecurities with a smile, and constantly feeling like you're tricking everyone into thinking you're more interesting than you really are. I think he's someone a lot of player can see themselves in, which is part of why he's so endearing. I also like going out of my way to piss off my brother by calling Prompto "Toto" every chance I can.

That, and there had to be someone to balance out the social dynamic. ignis and gladiolus both take up mentorly roles. Without prompto it'd feel like noctis was on a road trip with his gay parents.

I mean, maybe you are not completely wrong, but I wonder at how playable it would have been without him. One reason FFVIII was so difficult for me to really get into was because of Squall's attitude. I liked the flashbacks as Laguna more than I enjoyed being Squall, and his party didn't break up his mood enough for me to be super into the game. I think that XV without Prompto would have been the same, if not worse, for me to play through. Gladio's character gets on my nerves like literally nothing else in the game, and I'd probably have not finished it yet if it didn't have the fun break that Prompto brings it. Anyway, sooo glad you are doing this series. Curious to see your takes on Iggy and Noctis.
Lol, i appreciate the comment, though i think we're just saying the same thing really? From a gameplay perspective I never said he wasn't 'needed', I said he was needed because his character was crucial to lightening the mood and making the overall experience more fun to sit through, which is what you just said also. But from a storyline and narrative point of view, Prompto doesn't do much for the overall in-game story. He's there along for the ride but he doesn't bring anything to the story that the game warrants as 'important'. I mean, he turns out to be a soldier built by the Niflheim army and how much of that news effected the story or narrative? It didn't. Noctis and the others didn't even care, lol. The one big plot twist that Prompto had going for him was treated like it meant next to nothing. So, standing by what i said, Prompto doesn't hold much importance to the games storyline because everything is self contained to mostly just him, and if Prompto had been removed the storyline would have continued just as it had done, BUT from a gameplay perspective he's important to us as the player because he makes the 'experience' of playing the game something fun and lively :) As for Iggy, he's next up! Noctis will have to wait until his DLC episode drops because i need to see what it does to his storyline, if anything ~

Hope this recent theme leads to a video about arguably one of the most interesting villains in Final Fantasy, Ardyn. After that, well there still many great video game characters to choose from, especially those who have changed over the years. Like God of War's Kratos, or the Doomguy/slayer. Another good theme would be characters who have a resemblance but are separate people like Lady Maria and The Doll, Dante and Vergil and even Solid Snake and Big Boss.
Dear god Ardyn is overrated as fuck, barely any story or character, typical in so many ways and a very unsatisfying main villian since your last battle with him is underwhelming. He was a bit fun sometimes but that's it. Plenty of better FF villians.

Frankly, I wish we had gotten the Prompto that was created for VersusXIII instead of what they turned him into. Only thing I’m happy about is that in XV, he didn’t turn against Noctis like was supposed to happen in the earlier development. They seem very conflicted with him seeing as he’s almost nothing but the comic relief in the game then they turned him into a badass in his DLC then gave him the skills he showed there in the canon game’s Royal Edition despite his not having them in the original XV release. And all this before Ignis’s DLC completely erased Prompto’s.
Speaking of characters that get a bad reputation, think you could review Silver the hedgehog at some point? I ask this because Silver has a bad reputation mostly because he came from Sonic 06. I feel that is a bad excuse to not like someone. I mean, just because a character comes from a bad game does not mean fans need to say “I hate this guy. Worst hedgehog ever!” I for one like Silver. His design is interesting and I love his psychic powers. I’m hoping at some point, you could review Silver to help give Silver some much needed attention.

So, let me get this straight. Prompto's DLC chapter tells a story which has basically no bearing on the main plot, which doesn't prompt any real reaction from the other characters, Prompto ends up in basically the same emotional state as he was before his chapter, and you think this was an integral part of the original game that was cut by greedy execs and not, just spitballing here, a side story written as DLC for a game that already sold pretty well? Maybe the base game was poorly paced on its own merits, instead of having chunks of "missing" content that don't actually relate to the main storyline. Just a thought.
His story could have been so cool if he used his past as a trump card. For example, faking that he was a double agent from the start and wolf in sheeps clothing his way to get the group some cliche looking robots or hell a mecha chocobo the size of the country for all i care. XD
Can you do a who dat for Dreamcasts(and Gamecube) Skies of Arcadia? Namely Vyse and Aika. They both appear in the first Valkyrie Chronicles as secret unlockable characters for your squad. Vyse also appears in Sonic Sega All-Stars Racing with SoA getting it's very own faithful racecourse. It feels like Skies of Arcadia never got the full attention it deserved. It's my favorite jRPG, and the manner of ship upgrades that work similarly to equipping your characters with better armor & weapons. Yes not only were there random encounters for characters, but their were pirate ship battles in the sky. They are sky pirates after all. Ship upgrades also allow you to further explore the full world for secrets, and new lands. I beg you to do episodes for these 2 at least, and perhaps Drachma & Fina. At least 1 of the Armada villains of the Valuan Empire. All 8 leaders of the Armada are great, but not deserving of their own episodes. I'd say either Lord Galcian, or Alfanso. Galcian might require spoilers though so my pick is Alfanso. Alfonso is such a spoiled privileged twat, and such a bad person. He's entirely incapable at his job, and shown sacrificing his own crew to cover up his mistakes. I beg you for these. I would love to watch it, and I also think it deserves the recognition. Everyone that's played it has it in their favorite games list, and in their top 5 RPGs, only problem is not many played it. People who made it(overworks studio) also made rpgs like phantasy star, Sakura Taisen, Magic Knight Rayearth etc Please

You should do either Hugo or Elena, they're interesting to go over.

His story could have been so cool if he used his past as a trump card. For example, faking that he was a double agent from the start and wolf in sheeps clothing his way to get the group some cliche looking robots or hell a mecha chocobo the size of the country for all i care. XD

Can you do a who dat for Dreamcasts(and Gamecube) Skies of Arcadia? Namely Vyse and Aika. They both appear in the first Valkyrie Chronicles as secret unlockable characters for your squad. Vyse also appears in Sonic Sega All-Stars Racing with SoA getting it's very own faithful racecourse.
It feels like Skies of Arcadia never got the full attention it deserved. It's my favorite jRPG, and the manner of ship upgrades that work similarly to equipping your characters with better armor & weapons. Yes not only were there random encounters for characters, but their were pirate ship battles in the sky. They are sky pirates after all. Ship upgrades also allow you to further explore the full world for secrets, and new lands.
I beg you to do episodes for these 2 at least, and perhaps Drachma & Fina.
At least 1 of the Armada villains of the Valuan Empire. All 8 leaders of the Armada are great, but not deserving of their own episodes.

I beg you for these. I would love to watch it, and I also think it deserves the recognition. Everyone that's played it has it in their favorite games list, and in their top 5 RPGs, only problem is not many played it. People who made it(overworks studio) also made rpgs like phantasy star, Sakura Taisen, Magic Knight Rayearth etc
