Absolutely loved this video. This is when I started watching Guiding LIght. All my friends were watching General Hospital but I was attracted to JWS and the whole storyline. Nola became my absolute favorite character when she got involved with Quinton. She did make a great villianess but true love changed her.

Loved Nola with Floyd. And just adored John Wesley Shipp. His and Morgan's love story storyline was epic!

8 years old when I first saw this… makes me so sad she’s gone and that amazing soap acting and writing is as well :-(

One of the Top 5 storylines in all of GL history. This was back when GL was a real force to be reckoned with. 1980-85 were its real golden years, IMHO. I was 12 years old when this clip initially aired and remembered being glued to CBS all summer to watch this amazing plot unveil. It really is the most classic of "fake pregnancy" storylines. And what bravura acting by these two. Geeesh!!! Truly outstanding work.

RIP Lisa Brown...these WERE the BEST years of this wonderful soap opera, thanks to the amazingly talented Lisa Brown, John Wesley Shipp, Marsha Clark, Kristen Wigard, the late Jerry Van Dorn, Kevin Bacon...they truly brought their characters to life...

Lisa Brown was ridiculously underrated as an actress. Truly one of daytime's greatest actresses. Of course, the writing back then was boffo. And, can you believe they actually used to REHEARSE?? Unheard of today. Prior to that, of course, it was all live. Bette Davis once sent a letter to Elvera Roussell (Hope) stating what a great job Lisa Brown was doing as Nola. Screw the Emmys. There IS NO higher praise than that!!

Me, too. I had to re read the news headline, I thought, "This can't be "Nola" who died." I watched this when it first ran, when I was in high school, and her acting made such an impression on me. She was wonderful.

P.S. The show had ended on a Friday with the 'look on your face' exchange and we had to wait a WHOLE weekend for the meltdown. Imagine what agony that was after a year of Ms. Reardon's underhanded machinations... But at least the first 15 minutes of the following Monday's show didn't cut away from the Bauer patio to any other characters. They don't make 'em like this no more.

They don't make shows like this anymore. Today's soaps need to get back to basics if they are going to survive.

Summer 1981, and this is one of the oldest Guiding Light clips even I still have. Strangely, after her undoing here, GL started the work of scrubbing Nola to 'nice,' and I never found her as compelling again. But at this point, she was the character you most wanted to lower, millimeter-by-millimeter, right into a deep-fat fryer. But on another level, Kelly was SUCH a hunk, you could sympathize with a lot of low measures to get him...

Years ago, I read an interview with Douglas Marland with his comments on these scenes. This was the first episode taped after the resolution of the writers' strike, and the show's writing team was literally phoning the dialogue for this episode in to the studio from Marland's home in Connecticut.

I'm addicted to 1981 Guiding Light, the stuff with Nola, especially. I wasn't even alive in 1981 and never watched Guiding Light, so I only discovered this thru RUclips, and there's so little on here from 81. It sucks. If only I had a time machine.

This is great stuff they don't write soaps this way nowadays. Nola was a great character a shame Pam Long wrote Nola and Quint out because she didn't know what to do with them and later Megan Mctavish brought them back and broke them up.

Who could possibly give this clip a thumbs down?? Top 5 scene in GL history. It's annoying that there aren't many clips of GL 1981 on You Tube prior to this. I would have loved to see the several months that preceded this to the big build up.

I was 13 years old when this originally premiered. I had just gotten into soaps at 12 and my favorite at the time was Search for Tomorrow. I saw this episode one day and couldn’t stop watching. I saw a few episodes with Nola prior to this, but wasn’t watching regularly, so I missed all of Nola’s dastardly deeds leading up to this showdown! I remember hating Hillary and Trudy for how they treated Nola after. I wish I could see those episodes now. Nola became my favorite character and I loved her love story with Quint. RIP Lisa Brown

Nola Reardon, Vanessa Chamberlain, GH Bobbie Spencer and Tracy Quartermaine.. Doug Marland created some of the most awesome female Characters on television. What's more we watched their characters grow and become linchpins of their television shows. Great head writing ..rich character driven storylines... and powerful actresses. Every other medium should take notes .
