I trained with Gae a decade ago, and holy shit he's a wealth of knowledge, but he's not the best trainer if your prepping for a fight. He's a badass, and a great guy, but he has no problem hurting you. I love the old school aggressive style, but getting injured in training sucks.
I suppose it's a different era back in the old style it was literally training to fight for your life so fighters where put through hell as opposed to training for a prolonged professional career. I suppose it comes down to what you training for if you want skills you have to apply once or twice at full capacity in a lifetime or are you training for a professional career. Personally I love the old school badass way because I train for combat. Unfortunately I live in a extremely crime ridden country with a very high murder rate so these skills come in handy in my circumstances but I suppose if you going to be a pro maybe somebody who has a stop button might be a better option lol 🙏😎💪
these techniques where you use the inertia and force of the opponants to take him down is very similar to the concept of judo and aïkido reunited, Muay Thai share the same principles. it's a powerful tools for clinch situation and close combat.

Muay thai is the best art for striking. Boxing, kickboxing , karate and a few other arts can be effective too but the rest are for movies. Like kung fu, aikido , taekwondo, etc
How can u learned something if u wanna fight back. While they all come there as a student expecting some knowledge and technique in fighting from this particular trainer.. If u wanna be able to fight back with full forced u do that on competition ring. I believe many competition is available outside this training camp..
Clearly you haven't been in a clinch with a pro. They are using your center of gravity against you. It doesn't matter how hard you hold. Your body is gonna move with your weight. That's why he said technique not power.
I sparred against a grappler in my gym and it didn't really matter if I held on tight. The best thing you can do to a grappler is not let him grapple you in the first place and also be butt naked with shorts only. I made the mistake of sparring with a grappler and wore a shirt.

And this man has been doing muay thai ever since he was eight years old. Do you think you have a chance against him in a fight? Never saw an attacker freeze right after the attack. That's the issue with demonstrations like these and training in general. It's hard to get into realistic situations, but easy to promote your fighting style.
He teaches Muay Thai for a living man, he spars with high level pros all the time and teaches them. People go to him for a reason, he's not teaching kung fu or bullshido. Now obviously you can't always pull those sweeps with a 100% accuracy in a fight or in sparring, but that doesn't mean its wrong to teach these people the proper techniques so they get good at them. Sweeps are actually fairly easy to pull off in sparring and in fights after you drill them well enough, I've been putting people on their asses for a while now.
