World War II vets are no longer with us anymore and I guess a lot of you, like myself, watch these kind of war movies, as a reminder of the sacrifices, that our fathers and grandfathers, gave for their country and I will continue watching these movies, because I never want them to become a distant memory! May your souls be in the hands of God forever!
I personally would like to thank all veterans, past and present, along with all family members of the deceased, May the hand of God be with you forever!
As a retired combat trooper during the Vietnam battles of so many, I thank my fellow comrades whom I served with proudly, those that gave the ultimate sacrifice and those of us that know it remains within our life forever; you never forget never.. ✌️
This movie rips my heart to pieces...These fantastic brave men...My God , i must admit, i could never walk in their shoes....to all who have served, God bless you great people...but even these words are not enough...if there is an after life I would spend eternity hugging each and every soldier .....Till we meet again..I hope.
My father served in the N.African campaign, and later, went ashore at Normandy in the sanguinary 2nd wave. In early '45, he was reported MIA, but in June, when his letters finally reached my mom & his family, you can imagine their joy!
Thinking you're family member was never getting back and then getting them back must be the most amazing thing. Especially in war when thousands where leaving every day.
This is one of the greatest movies about WWII. Period. My dad fought with the Texas 36, badly wounded at Monte Cassino. He said this is the most truthful movies made.
This is one of the best WW2 movies ever made. Made during WW2, with countless combat veterans working on the film both in front of and behind the cameras, LIVE AMMO used in the artillery scenes, excellent writing and acting and all the uniforms/equipment/weapons are of course accurate
It's amazing how much realism they pump into this movie... The script is so well written, and the acting is incredible as well. To the Greatest Generation I raise my cup... Thank You!
MAN! As a veteran, this film really hits home! And to think that there were many combat veterans "acting" in the movie makes it all that much more authentic and powerful. GREAT acting and masterfully directed! My father was a paratrooper ranger in WWII and he instilled a deep respect for the military and those who fought against these thugs who rose to power to oppress, murder, rape, kill and destroy (just like their father, the devil). As the oldest of 7, we all served in the military, minus one, and though it was tough, I really am privileged that I served. We must not let the sacrifices of all those who fought for our freedoms to be in vain. We now have many here among us who think they get to be the "elite" and "privileged class" who get to lord it over us. That's not what our founding fathers envisioned for us. They set up our REPUBLIC on the premise that we get our rights from the Lord and Creator, NOT man or government! So we need to fight our fight now and take back what they have stolen from us and kick their ass off the hill! Like the warrior King David said, "I pounded them into dust and poured them out like mud in the streets"! That is what our attitude should be against these modern day S..W..A..M..P rat tyrants!
They came to fight for our freedoms, they gave all of their tomorrow's, so we could have all of our today's! God Bless these men, and Thank You for serving and your sacrifices for the future generations of Americans and Europeans.
I went tot the same little college in Texas as Capt. Waskow (Lt. Walker) in the film and wanted to watch his story. I had 9 uncles in this thing and by the grace of G od they all came home.
A terrific movie. It hits home to anybody who has ever been through something like that. That last part is hard to watch but you still have to go out there and finish the job.
It has been many years of driving by Dana, IN but never stopping. Finely, a few weeks ago, I stopped at the Ernie Pyle Museum there. Ernie's home town. It was really good for only 5.00 dollars. It was very rich in history and usually a personal guided tour too.
Ernie Pyle went everywhere our GI's went from Africa to Europe to the Pacific. He wrote the stories of our warriors, nearly always enlisted ground pounders, and made sure to specifically identify them and their home towns. If memory serves he was killed on an island in the Pacific during an artillery barrage. My Dad and other family members who served in both theaters and then some, spoke of him with high regard. I still have and will never part with my copy of "Brave Men".

It was not because I was willing to die for my country, however - I wanted to live for it - just as any other person wants to do. It is foolish and foolhardy to want to die for one’s country, but to live for it is something else. To live for one’s country is, to my mind, to live a life of service; to - in a small way - help a fellow man occasionally along the way, and generally to be useful and to serve. Maybe when the lights go on again all over the world, free people can be happy and gay again. Through good fortune and the grace of God, I was chosen a leader - an honor that meant more to me than any of you will ever know. If I failed as a leader, and I pray to God I didn’t, it was not because I did not try. God alone knows how I worked and slaved to make myself a worthy leader of these magnificent men, and I feel assured that my work has paid dividends - in personal satisfaction, if nothing else. I felt so unworthy, at times, of the great trust my country had put in me, that I simply had to keep plugging to satisfy my own self that I was worthy of that trust. I have not, at the time of writing this, done that, and I suppose I never will. I do not try to set myself on a pedestal as a martyr. Every Joe Doe who shouldered a rifle made a similar sacrifice - but I do want to point out that the uppermost thought in my mind all along was service to the cause, and I hope you all felt the same way about it. When you remember me, remember me as a fond admirer of all of you, for I thought so much of you and loved you with all my heart. My wish for all of you is that you get along well together and prosper - not in money - but in happiness, for happiness is something that all the money in the world can’t buy. Well here I'm going too say it. The many Times I've seen this over the Years. Which has been over Fifty Year's in Time. Many of those time's was just for the Action, the Story & Authentic Portrall of those involved, as Combat Soldiers. Fighting in WWll from wherever to wherever. I wasn't concerned then with the Actual, Story of The Guy known as Ernie Pyle. But when I View it this Time? IT'S gonna be Strictly to try & Get to know Who Ernie Pyle was? And Who the Average American GI Joe's were? During that COLOSSAL, World 🌎🌍 Conflict, that My Parents & Relatives had too Endure, & Live through. Being I'm a lot Older now I should Check out the Book n Read it First. But being that the Film 📽️🎥 is available, now I'll watch it Now. Thank You for Providing it.
Ernie Pyle was the real deal. Before WWII started most Americans were already in a war, an economic one called the Great Depression. Ernie Pyle wrote some great stuff about his travels around the USA during that time and how people were getting along.
My great grandfather was at this battle. Major D.A.Wilkins, the Buffs (Royal East Kent regiment) Was hit in the hip by artillery shrapnel which ended his military career. He had previously been hit in the same hip in 1915 on the western front by a dum dum bullet and was also caught in the first gas attack of ww1.
Well I achieved My Goal this Time around. Ernie Pyle was an Average American Civilian who Voluntarily Choose to slog it Out with The GI's whom He called Friends. Those were All the Men? He meet while He was traveling with Them. From N Africa, Scily, To Salarno, too Monty Cassino, then Rome. After which He went too the Pacific Theater, where He Eventually was Accidentally Killed by Enemy Fire. He was an Exceptional Journalist, but above All a Friend to the GI's Who He walked with & wrote His News Dispatches ABOUT. Wow what A Guy & Friend He Was. May All those Brave Soul's RIP. And Thank You for Sharing this Great Film 😊🎥📽️with Us.
Before watching this, I thought it was a propaganda film. Wow, was I wrong. the death of Pyle must have been a big loss back then . A journalist that told the true story and endeared himself to the nation doing his job.

Ernie Pyle died in 1945 on Lejima, Okinawa. Was Ie Shima in 1945. He was killed by a Japanese machine gunner in the left temple right below his helmet.
The director had a hard time watching this movie. After the war because good majority of the cast were actually soldiers. Who were killed in action. This movie was released during the Italian campaign. A little movie trivia for everybody.
The Italian campaign. I love Churchill, but his insistence on the Italian campaign was much like his Gallipoli idea. Perhaps if Patton had been in charge rather than the embecile Mark Clark, it would have been less of a meat grinder and more of a success.
Remember #JesusChrist. Pray daily because the time is short..and many things will start happening in this world soon. We gotta be ready for the changes from the world. There's no salvation without asking for forgiveness of sins daily. #JesusChrist
Gave you an up-vote, but when you say "daily", you'll have to show me that in the N/T. We're to pray w/o ceasing, but that's not for forgiveness, which we receive at Salvation.
@@DavidRice111 God bless you for believing in Christ. I know many might misunderstand that accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, it means Saved forever unconditionally. And many justify this concept by saying that no Law is condemning us...which is partially true. The Law portion referred by Paul means the blood atonement law for sins, and the Mosaic laws , which Jesus fulfilled eternally. But Jesus told us (as new commandments) , to repent daily and to ask for forgiveness and forgive others daily. He emphasized this in his sermon on Temple mount. Example : if we say one time "I am saved by Jesus Christ" and then we keep doing exactly what he told us not to do (kill, steal, cheat others, abuse kids..etc) Can that person claim he belongs to Jesus ? :) Kindly saying all this to explain my point. This is why a daily repentance (= turning away from wrong doings) and daily forgiveness is needed, as Jesus asked us to pray for the daily (every day) bread. (bread is not literally bread, but = His Salvation, forgiveness, deliverance , blessings etc.). God bless you David !

If you have seen it already (as I did growing up) you know how it is. And I lived moments just like that serving in Iraq-3 tours WORTH! The man is dead.......the company keeps going.
people today just too self absorbed ...they should know what these guys went threw...
44,897 by July 2019. Sometimes it takes a while. Still sadly low.
I remember watching this and many other great war stories in the late 50's and early 1960's.
The country certainly is in a sad state that shocks The Greatest Generation, but keep praying; there is a change in the works.
Plenty of people aren't interested in military service. They probably think it is a propaganda piece from the 1940s. Their loss.
I just ran across be this, I saw it before but going to watch again! Really Good Movie!
The best movies history😍 thank you movies uploader
Pvt Dondaro, the lover boy, played by Wally Cassell, was actually born in Sicily in 1912 and passed in 2015 at 103 yrs. old.
Monte Casino I meant
I forgot how good of a movie this is.
Like the seen where they put that 3 inch into work.
Just found this movie!
God Bless the USA, Democrat, Republican, and All!!
The ending is hard to watch...but Wellman could break your heart
Captain Henry Wasko was the 36th I.D. soldier Pyle was writing about (portrayed by Mitchum). KIA age 25. God Bless America (and Texas too)
Before watching this, I thought it was a propaganda film. Wow, was I wrong. the death of Pyle must have been a big loss back then . A journalist that told the true story and endeared himself to the nation doing his job.
My dad was A pathfinder in in World War II he made it home he told me some terrifying stories and had the scars To back them up
Ernie Pyle experienced that war as intimately as any soldier.
My father was there when they brought in Pyle's body. He said it was like everyone's best friend was killed.
Great movie. Underrated.
Its Ironic, this movie was released in July 1945. Ernie Pyle was killed a few days later.
War....
War never changes.
War is hell. War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over. ~ Gen. W.T. Sherman
War is a racket. ~ Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
After bombing Mt Casino the German units moved into the rubble, and it changed nothing. The Germans were never within 200 yards of that monastery until it was bombed. They would NEVER drop off the bodies in the middle of an infantry company.
Amazing that most of the technical advisers in this film happen to be RANGERS. Most of them probably survived Cisterna.
Real!!! WW2 we won butt never forget the American men bow and wemen that gave America freedome ahead of all the rest and even for the rest!!! I was born in 45 before the end . will dad worked on the Pease maker in Ft Worth. hios brother worked in alamose. never forget!!!
god bless our military! from an old navy vet
Ernie Pyle died in 1945 on Lejima, Okinawa. Was Ie Shima in 1945. He was killed by a Japanese machine gunner in the left temple right below his helmet.
My dad was in Europe staff Sargeant over 105 responsible for crew and due efforts and 1/2
The director had a hard time watching this movie.
@@scomo532 my old Platoon Sergeant said they are never going to make an M-1 Clark Fighting vehicle. 😂

Mr. Pyle was real, he was a true reporter. Your welcome but it's coming again! I remember the El Salvador station went English for 3mo in 88
"WAR IS HELL!!".......(said every single man who has NEVER experienced the GRUESOME......INHUMANE.... DEPRAVITY.....of ....MARRIAGE!!! )
I miss my father every day. He was a WW2 combat vet in the ETO, first wave at D-Day, Battle of the Bulge and crossing of the Rhine.
Thanks dad for getting the job done against a Hitler. A glad you are not here to see USA going to shit with Donald Trump.
I am glad as a combat vet myself he did not live to see the Nazi flag paraded through the Capital on Jan 6! He would have gone crazy!
The Best!!!!
Good movie. Erinie Pyle was killed in Pacific 1945.
Old men decide and young men and civilians die in war.

I just think Burgess Meredith and something like riding the baloney pony comes to mind.

Classic
That would be the "Story of G. I. Joe".
Would have been interesting for the US soldiers to try bouncing bullets off of the church bell to kill the two snipers in the tower
Let me guess... Hasbro owns the word GI Joe!

Did they airlift the American flags into town for the people to wave? Where did all the civilians get the flags?
After the war in Europe Ernie Pyle went to the Pacific and was shot and killed by a sniper while sitting along the road with troops taking a break. PS after all these brave men that fought for our freedom I'm sick of what we have in the WHITE HOUSE (sorry if you don't agree I just had to say it.) Randall I stand corrected
fox no doubt
It's Ernie *Pyle*, not Ernie *Powell*.

10:00 Propaganda has always been VERY effective.
I'm just amazed the Germans were fighting our guys in the American Southwest.
looks like filmed the desert southwest. California or Arizona. A little too obvious for my taste.
Maybe on the base at Yuma. Credits in the beginning were to the Army. It's about the men anyway, a tribute regardless of where it was made.
