Just goes to show that fishes do not read books or subscribe to self proclaimed experts. These two setups break all the rules of the snobs who raise or are so called authorities on tropheus species. These colonies are thriving, breeding and cohabitating with other species and plant life. Simply amazing Daryl.
My God these are beautiful tanks my friend!!! And trust me I have seen thousands but a planted tropheus tank is amazing and amazing your tanks are!!!!! Wow!
Beautiful aquariums. Healthy breeding fish. Thriving plants only benefit the system. It doesn't matter one iota whether plants aren't in their natural environment. once in the aquarium the fish aren't in a natural environment.
Cheers mate, I've since planted out my tank and the T's (moliro) have barely touched them. For years I thought they annihilated planted...try, live and learn :)
hi daryl. you don't buffer the tank to higher ph at all?I know tropheas like higher ph however plants don't. ..seems you got both happy?any advice? my planted cichlid tank got loads of algae on my anubias and I love the plant. ..looks like you don't get any of the problems
I can see the hard work and effort put into these beautiful tanks, however I am a big believer in making the aquarium look as much like there natural habitat as possible and this does not come close
pfft, I doubt they give a f$%%. You dont get healthy breeding Tropheus colonies if they are unhappy. Thriving plants are some of the best filters and will only be a benefit to the aquarium.
+Josh Potatoe I agree they can be a little more expensive than some cichlids but they are well worth it. Nice size F1 Tropheus usually go for $20 to $40 depending on what they are.
+daryl warren at big als i can only find small ones around 1.5 inches and they cost $20+ im kinda new to the hobby so im not sure il raise em well cuz if they die its rly costly
+Josh Potatoe Link with me on facebook and I might be able to hook you up with a sweet group of these Red Moliro. Im only about an hour from GTA and do make trips there occasionally. facebook.com/daryl.warren.33
Unsuitable in a natural habitat kind of sense? Yes. Unsuitable in a "tank isn't healthy for the fish" kind of sense? Nah. A stressed Tropheus specimen will likely get Bloat and refuse to eat, chosing to hide and shimy with its fins clamped until its body collapses on itself and dies, I assume you know. These Tropheus seem active, they are creating offspring, which means they are feeding well, and it appears that they feel that the environment is safe enough to let their young out of their mouths, seeing the size of the fry that are swimming around among the foliage. Knowledge that is learned through keeping things first hand are to be learned and considered, yes, but they're not laws that are meant to be strictly followed. In this hobby, we try to give our fish the best lives that they can have within little glass boxes, and so we tend to replicate the places our fish would naturally live in. Of course, mkst of our fish don't actually come from those places, instead coming from farms that use vats and tubs to contain them. The fish, never knowing where they come from, have suited themselves with the ever-changing environment that they exist in, they've grown to not care, their bodies toughen, uncaring of whatever place they will go in next. If people can have Bettas and Tetras thrive in hard, alkaline water, why can't people keep Tropheus in planted tanks, despite the fish showing no negative effects when kept in such conditions?

Simply amazing Daryl.
Yeah just got told by an "expert" Tropheus will destroy all the plants in my tank within 24 hours. I was then tempted to send him this video link.
My God these are beautiful tanks my friend!!! And trust me I have seen thousands but a planted tropheus tank is amazing and amazing your tanks are!!!!! Wow!

Very pretty! What do you do for algae control with cichlids? I've always used Otos but I'm sure African cichlids would make a quick meal out of them!

+daryl warren They just look SO different from google searches. Really love the look of it. Would look nice in my new 90 gallon.
What size are these tanks please?
Looks great. I would have figured the T's would mow down plants pretty quickly. Any issues with plants being eaten?
+Chuck Meister The Tropheus are not bothering the plants.
Cheers mate, I've since planted out my tank and the T's (moliro) have barely touched them. For years I thought they annihilated planted...try, live and learn :)
+Chuck Meister Good job! The plants do help.
+daryl warren can you list the plant names please as want to try in my tank

What parameters do you keep your tank to grow plants? Wont plants die with cichlid PH?
+Sotdot ph is 8.2 or 8.3
Do you have the same lighting on both tanks?
Ogrodii Both tanks have 4 x 6400 K T5 HO but the top tank also has a 10k and actinic with a low cost single LED strip added.

+Yazeed Bassadien Im not buffering and the ph is at 8.2 to 8.3
+daryl warren that's awesome and do you add co2 or any ferts?
+Yazeed Bassadien Im not using any Co2 but I do use a small amount of liquid fertilizer called Flourish by Seachem

Very Nice display!

I can see the hard work and effort put into these beautiful tanks, however I am a big believer in making the aquarium look as much like there natural habitat as possible and this does not come close
Meh and for what good reason? These fish are thriving.
do you sell your tropheus?
I rarely have any to sell and will usually try to make trades for other fish if I do have some extra Trophs.

pfft, I doubt they give a f$%%. You dont get healthy breeding Tropheus colonies if they are unhappy. Thriving plants are some of the best filters and will only be a benefit to the aquarium.

this is not for Tropheus Tank!
Yes it is. Fish are thriving. They don't need third rate advice that has been regurgitated, but never experienced.
Unsuitable environment for these fish.
They are breeding.
Put us in jail and we wil be breeding too
Rubbish.
@@jpcarpentiebr1336 yeah and what home aquarium wouldnt be a "jail" of sorts.
