Periphery - Scarlet(Acoustic Guitar Cover)

Periphery and Mike Dawes is releasing Acoustic version of It's only smiles & Scarlet.
As a huge fan celebrating the release, I played scarlet on an acoustic guitar.
I really wish Periphery releases more acoustic version of their tunes.
They have so many great songs that might suit unplugged versions like All new materials, The way the news goes, Wax wing, etc.
Which Periphery songs would you like to hear on acoustic version?

Sounds awesome! Just a friendly tip the 57 is a dynamic mic, it want's to be closer to the source (i.e your acoustic) and then you can reduce the gain!

After I saw your comment, I checked out videos who record acoustic with 57 and they all place 57 way closer than me haha. I only checked the direction of the mic before filming this, not thinking much about the distance and types of mic using. Thanks for the tip!

@@me1945me no worries at all! There's a lot to know and learn about mic placement for sure. One cool thing is just shifting a mic an inch can alter the sound, so I'd say just sit down and play with the placement and see what you like!
Conversely, you could try a condenser with a slight distance to capture the guitar and a little room tone. Or a couple mics, one near the sound hole and one near the fretboard for some interesting results

@@matthewbrown6397 Yeah I should try out various placement test for recording :) I only have sm57 at the moment, but I would like to try out other mics and combinations. Thanks for sharing your tips!

Thanks! I would recommend polishing sound with good de-esser(soothe2 for me). It's not always necessary but is definitely an easy way to clean up some harshness coming from the string :)
Other than that, I used tape saturation for warmth and overtones, compression just to tame some peaks and overall dynamics and bit of room reverb!
