    Hi Richard, just a quick note, I’m 55 and take maybe 8 supplements do CrossFit 4 days wk mountain bike with 20 year old & pretty much keep up with them. I think if you stay physically active at least 5 days a week you will live a long healthy life. Last week one of my fellow MTB friends turn 80. We had a huge ride then a party. He has been riding 30 years & never stopped- why stop. Keep active and 💪.

    I think this is a showcase of a great interviewer. Some questions remained unaswered, like: what are those 3 aminoacids?, but this wonderfull lady spoke sincerely.
    Her email will probably be on fire soon, and this -- I don't know if it is a good think, perhaps buying the book is a better way.
    A correct protocol for everyone - not possible! A personalized protocol for everyone interested done by 1 human - not possible, I think.
    A way for everyone to open eyes on the possibilities on supllements impact on our lives (a healthy diet and exercise being a must!) - now.. that is "job done, Richard"!

    Hi Richard. Great guest and great content. In a way, I think she represents what a lot of people out there that are grappling with this subject matter. The paradox that so many of us have is that it takes time to figure out what works but time continues to march on. And so, we don't want to wait until the "end" to find out that we should have been taking something all along that may have altered the outcome. I've been taking a supplement from Longevinex that contains (Trans resveratrol
    , Quercetin, Rice bran IP6, Vitamin D3, Nucleotides, Beta cyclodextrin, Fisetin) for over ten years and never get sick anymore (knocking on wood!). I've been taking several other supplements over the past few years in addition to the Longevinex. I don't now if it's the supplements or genetics or whatever but my health has been very good. I applaud people like Dr. Kaufmann and you for being a conduit to such people.

    I know one of the amino acids is lysine. Not sure about the other two. I take about 1 gram of lysine powder with each meal. Lysine also prevents cold sores. According to Dr. Linus Pauling, lysine can prevent LDL from sticking to the blood vessel wall. It seems like lysine is very “sticky” and glucose and LDL both stick to it.

    • @ModernHealthspan
      @ModernHealthspan  2 года назад

      Hi Thanks for sharing, that is interesting. I had not heard of lysine lowering LDL. I asked Dr. Kaufmann and the other two amino acids were arginine and cysteine.

    • @justsaying7065
      @justsaying7065 2 года назад +1

      Hello, lysine doesn’t lower LDL. According to Dr. Linus Pauling, LDL sticks to lysine residues on collagen in the blood vessel wall, which starts to the process of plaque building. So if you have free lysine in the blood, LDL binds to it rather than to the blood vessel wall, thereby reducing plaque buildup. Arginine is good - it gets converted to nitric oxide, which lowers blood pressure. However, arginine can trigger cold sores, where as lysine prevents cold sores. I guess you can get cysteine from NAC. Another way to get arginine is taking citrulline, which can be converted to arginine.

    • @justsaying7065
      @justsaying7065 2 года назад

      @@ModernHealthspan I stand corrected. It’s not LDL, it’s Lp(a) that binds to lysine.

      Hi Scott, thanks for your comment. I believe that she was talking about glycation, when the sugar bonds to proteins and forms AGEs. So I think the plan was to get the sugar out of the blood as soon as possible. The more sugar that in the blood the more danger there is that they will form. She did not say which amino acids she took.

    Good information, however I am skeptical that taking 53 supplements a day is a good idea. These things are studied in isolation for a reason. Polypharmacy is a real problem and not knowing how these supplements interact with each other makes me hesitant. I would be more interested in her top 2 or 3 supplements/interventions.

    • @ModernHealthspan
      @ModernHealthspan  2 года назад +1

      Hi Tyler, thanks for your comment. I have to say I am conflicted on this topic. I certainly understand your point and that taking too many supplements can overwhelm the liver's ability to cope. Also, per our discussion with Dr Lithgow and Tom Weldon, sometimes having two good supplements taken at the same time can cancel each other out. However, the supplements seem to do good things and people whose opinion I respect (as well as Dr. Kaufmann) such as Dave Asprey and Dr Gundry take large numbers of supplements.
      In terms of her top supplements she did talk about them in general when we talked about the required supplements for those over 40.

      Hi Andreas, thanks. Just my thoughts, would be that it would depend on the supplement as to how well that strategy would work. If it was something like a growth factor to build muscle, then cycling would work, but if it is something like vitamin C which is either used immediately or excreted in your off period it would not be effective.

    So regarding exosomes. BTW, great questions. She injects or administers via IV? I was confused. Also, did or would she share what exosomes she uses. I take a bunch of supplements based upon literature reviews and do not blood test as often as I should, so I am being somewhat two-faced in criticizing her. However, at least I know I am doing things incorrectly.
    Here are my thoughts.
    First, even one supplement may reduce lifespan in healthy people. For example, while alpha lipoic acid has an antioxidant effect in mice, it reduced lifespan in one study. She takes 52 supplements and many may have redundant effects. Too much of anything is dangerous. Too much water will kill you.
    She is an MD and does not measure her markers? Therefore, she has no idea if her supplements are making known markers better or worse. Even if she took no supplements, it makes sense to do blood testing to look for problems (which happen to most everyone as they age) to try to correct them through diet, exercise, supplements or pharmaceuticals.
    Many people feel great while a problem in their body is developing unbeknownst to them. Some of these problems could be detected in advance through standard blood and other testing.

      I think I red your posts more than one time, and agree to what you said, in general. Perhaps KISS strategy, like in keep it super simple ( not keep it super stupid) is the correct strategy. If it works - use it, but be informed beforehand, ' cause it may save you the trouble of trying without knowing what to expect - I think I will use this one.

    • @ModernHealthspan
      @ModernHealthspan  2 года назад

      Hi Jack, thanks for sharing. I was surprised that she did not measure her markers. I think that measuring is important, even if you see the same results every time. As you say it is the best way to identify possible issues before they are obvious. On the too much of anything is dangerous, this is true, but that is why she said she takes a minimum dose of each. So it is a bit different. Whether the various supplements mix well together and are additive is another question.
