Fighting back tears watching this. As a Filipino American basketball player and trainer, THANK YOU for everything you’ve done and are continuing to do in the Philippines. All the best to you 🙏🏽.
well compared to football and american football, those need a large piece of empty land that has turf and grass that needs to be maintained, a basketball court can just be a concrete rectangle that is usually also the same size of a regular ownable plot of land, and these courts also serve as communal places like a central town square where events can happen, and if it's a covered court it can triple as temporary shelter for families hit by inclement weather, there's also a growing volleyball fervor since that can also be played within a basketball courts, and some basketball courts do have built-in provisions to put up volleyball nets although voleyball seems to be more inline with female demographics where agressive contact can be kept at a minimum and safety is more of a concern i also know futsal is a thing, and maybe that could also be introduced to urban communities, for a good and healthy sports diversity,
This video made me emotional. It brought me back to the time when i myself was one of those kids, hooping on any hour of the day, sometimes even at night, rain or shine, on a half court plopped in the middle of the street by the neighbors. Could i request your insight on the current level of skill of Filipino basketball? You saw for yourself, Filipino's have unlimited passion for the game, but it somehow doesn't translate to international success. Yes, the Gilas team did well at the asian games, but more or less half the roster are foreigners. How come an all Filipino team is not viable? It appears all talent local basketball programs produce are just good enough to beat other Filipino's, but falls short when facing against other competent basketball programs.
Basketball is so huge in the Philippines. What I don't like about the basketball system is their pattern on NBA. We often idolize that superstar isolation moves. That's why when it comes to international competition we suck. We have heart but lacks fundamentals.
Philippines need to watch more euroleague. It’s the type of basketball that is played by everyone outside the NBA. It’s what “basketball” really means. The culture is also what Philippines should adapt which is passionate fanbases and clubs that will represent people like how football/basketball is in Europe. The clubs are more than the cringe corporate system of the PBA and its cringe attempt to mimic America. Teams especially in a country like the Philippines should mean a bit more like it in Europe. If Filipinos adapt this they can do better in basketball or something like football.
That's how kids are supposed to look like. Active, playful and happy. Just kids being kids. It warms my heart and I thank you for this wonderful experience🙏💙
Bro great work my guy. As a East London kid, with Filipino parents. I had my own journey to the PBA (now an overseas hoop vet in SE Asia). Keep doing your thing bro🏀
Ball is life in the Philippines. Back in high school during weekends, we lived on the court to play whole day and go home just to eat, then go back to play again. 😎😎

This is a great vid. And the shots, my goodness, the one where kids look towards the city separated by the river, the slums in the background while a kid peeks on the camera, and so much more. Y'all really captured the vibe and energy of what's happening and successfully sends it to us viewers. 👏
Thank you for sharing your valuable time with the kids in Manila. It means so much to them, and I respect your effort so much. After all, the late Kobe sees this in his heart and shared memories with us Pilipinos❤❤❤
This is how physical we play way back. And watching this, I can't even imagine how physical i was and with great sportsmanship. No one gets mad. Just game.
Nice! Basketball is big in PI! I was there 2yrs ago and I actually learned how to play basketball there specifically in Quezon City. I was pulled in and that's it! it was fun, I made a lot of friends until now! I can't wait to go back to PI in December. Hopefully someday a full blooded Filipino will play in the NBA!.

Wow was not expecting that kind of video, but glad I clicked. That was a movie and a half. Appreciate all the work you do and hopefully this keeps on growing. 🙏

True ball is life in the Philippines. I remember my brother's in law younger brother. Despite dianose by pneumonia by the doctor during medical check uo.He still played basketball after work and he had cardiac arrest while playing. He suffered so much. He was revived but becane vegetable state and he dief a few years later. That's the result of being passionate playing but you are not physically fit to do it. Be careful guys know your limitation you are not supernan.
Philippine basketball is second oldest after the US. It was introduced in 1910 during the American colonial period. It’s all over the Philippines including rural areas. You can find how they invented their own court without the foundations yet including kids were happy. Thank you for being a kind hearted man. 🙏🏻
I've lived in the Philippines in the south for 21 years from America. I have played basketball 3-4 days a week every year. The culture of basketball here is incredible. I have played with some of the same guys year after year. There are more courts and games going on throughout the day than you can imagine. Often just for pick up games we have uniforms, refs and use a scoreboard. I even got to play with Manny Paquiao once. Love basketball in the Philippines!
That's my country my beloved Philippines a basketball crazy nation.Myself at 57 yrs old still playing hoops and get going until my last breath of life for the love of favorite sports the basketball.
The Philippines is in love with a game that doesn't love them back. We love a game wherein height is a crucial advantage and that's an area we lack in given that we are a nation with the 4th shortest average height in the world. If you are to put in an analogy, it's like we're a bunch of fishes that want to be the fastest fliers when we should be focusing more on being the fastest swimmers.
And that's love my g. No matter what the odds are, if you love something, you give your all to it. Fuck height disadvantage, if I wanna hoop, i'm hooping.
eugenics ass take😂 so we should stop beauty pageants because filipinas are short, volleyball because we're short, etc. it's a game bro. why would you play something just because you have the advantage, not because you love the game.
The Philippines has arguably the best boxer ever (Manny Pacquiao) and Billiards player (Efren Reyes) but BASKETBALL is the country's sporting soulmate... (Despite never having a Filipino born player in the NBA)
When I was small like the kids on the video, we do these all day every day even when it's raining or the sun is up at 12pm specially in summer.. We have basketball clinic etc..
Thanks for this vid, basketball is life here in the 🇵🇭. We have inter street competition in 1 brgy. Inter barangay in the city and then inter town. Inter province and also inter school. even lgbt will play in their places. we have age brackett competition like for grade school, high school ,college.

More like we lack the height. Only small pool of tall players in the Philippines.
