  • In this video i will show you how to take apart a clipper blade, then reassembling it. How to check the tension of the clipper blade and how to adjust it. also how to clean it and oil it.
    My name is Nick George with Clouds Diamond Sharpening. I sharpen on a diamond sharpening wheel (grandpa made the wheels shape and figured out how to use the diamond process. that's so fine at 1500 diamond grit, that polishes your blade sharp. I fix any clippers that have parts available. I can sharpen any blade or scissor that can come apart. I sharpen convex, semi convex, chunkers, thinning, fabric, surgical, and little scissor at a fair price.

    Thank you so much for this!! I’ve been having trouble with too much tension from my new sharpener the last couple of visits, now I know how to try to fix it. I even brought up tension when he came and got my blades and they still have too much tension. 7-8 lbs worth! And I cannot move them with my fingers. I knew it was too tight, I think he just doesn’t know about tension. I will bring it up again. Had bought a new blade and tension was between 3-4 lbs.
    Another thing I had purchased after he first sharpened my blades was a gun/fish scale (checks tension on a gun trigger or weight of a fish). It’s just hand held and it works great for checking blades.

    • @cloudsdiamondsharpening3973
      @cloudsdiamondsharpening3973  Год назад

      We see this almost every day and it's becoming more common. In our experience, tightening the tension real tight can potentially hide the fact that the blade was sharpened incorrectly to begin with. If you ever find yourself having to educate your sharpener, it's probably best to look elsewhere. There are just too many variables to consider when sharpening clipper blades and little issues such as this ends up costing you more money in the long run. I've never even heard of 7-8 lbs!! That's crazy. Incorrect tension not only damages the blade, but it really tears the clipper up. Clippers are designed to oscillate side to side with ease. Any additional resistance puts additional strain on parts that causes them to fail sooner than should be expected. For more information, check us out at cloudsdiamondsharpening.com and thanks for watching!

    I’ve been looking for how far back to put the cutter behind the guard. It seems that about a millimeter behind is correct. I have Andis Ultraedge blades and I’m not sure if that one millimeter or so is to be applied to all of these types of blades. Thanks!

    Thank you so much for this great video! A quick question- before I snap the blade on, how do I make sure the teeth are aligned properly? You seem to do it instinctively and make it look easy :-) Thanks again.

    • @cloudsdiamondsharpening3973
      @cloudsdiamondsharpening3973  4 года назад +2

      Believe me, it's not as easy as it looks. Different blades require different settings in regards to lining the teeth up correctly. A general rule is to make sure the cutting teeth do not protrude over the comb. After that, the specific blade will require being set back according to the blades use. Really hard to explain, much easier to do after 20 years of practice 😊

    • @michellemurphy4421
      @michellemurphy4421 4 года назад

      Cloud's Diamond Sharpening thanks for you reply! Not sure if I asked my question correctly- thanks for bearing with me- so I’m wondering how to line up the teeth and comb from left to right? I’ve read how to align a basic blade but these adjustable ones seem to move left to right on their own sometimes after I snap them on (with clippers running) and after I’ve moved the blade from side to side during cleaning. Does that make sense?

    • @cloudsdiamondsharpening3973
      @cloudsdiamondsharpening3973  4 года назад

      @@michellemurphy4421 There's probably an issue with that specific blade. It could be a few different things causing the issue. Really hard to tell without seeing it up close. If it's happening with numerous blades, the clipper has an issue. If it's just that single blade, perhaps you can get it looked at sometime in the future.

    Does anyone know how to 0 gap locked detachable blades? when I say locked usually unscrewing the 2 screws lets you adjust the inner blade even past the top blade. But when you unscrew these wahl blades there is a crevice that blocks the inner blade from going up further. Anyone know how to hack the blade to make them o gapable?
    I have a Wahl lithium ion stainless steel trimmer Model:09818-5001. It comes with 4 detachable heads and they dont cut sharp enough and the T-trimmer blade is like non 0 gap its locked into place. THe blades are un-gap-able. They are locked into place. Does anyone know how to hack trimmer blades that lock into place so you can get 0 gap. To make them 0 gapable?

      the socket ears need to be bent in or the hinge of your cliper is goin bad

    • @bobbyscalchi4013
      @bobbyscalchi4013 Год назад

      I just set all my new blades on a 2nd hand Oster Powerline this weekend after a lever, socket, link gear, gear, and grease refresh. What I discovered on a brand new 1A blade from the factory after I zero gapped it was it wouldn't fall into place correctly and oscillate correctly like it did before I modified it to zero gap. All my other blades worked perfectly.
      Two things occurred. My socket screws on the clippers loosened. My socket on the clipper blade needed re adjustment. The ears on the tension spring piece where it hooks into the socket wasn't parallel/flush with the other side of the ears, causing the detachable blade to ride higher than as intended and the lever abd blade to fall out. It also created more oscillating tension on the blade. I realized this by listening to the motor load in comparison to the other blades. The whine was a little but lower and under load. The ears being bent more forward and less parallel with itself was potentionally cause by me overtightening the screws when I was zero gapping.
      So there are five points you want to check for adjustment to get your blade to snap in correctly. The socket and condition of lever on the clippers. The socket on the detachable blade. The ears on the spring tensioner. (Make sure they are parallel with each other for a flush snap in.) And the screw torque and blade slide. (It should slide relatively easy with sone but little resistance with 2 lbs of force. No more, no less.) Hope this helps. This should remedy all your comb blade rattle issues as long as your lever isn't worn and loosened and doesn't require replacement.

      Hello no problem I'm glad it helped. I wouldn't recommend adjusting the tension if you're not a sharpener because different sharpener's use different pressures and if you loosen it in another sharpener sharpened it. it might not cut it all. But you can adjust the tension by pinching the ears of the spring closer together so it tightens tighter with the socket in the screws

    Suggestion (take it as you wish): avoid 1) background music (or if you MUST have it, so low as to be almost inaudible), 2) please avoid running commentary about your company, resume, etc. (applies to your other videos as well). You have very useful info -- please don't diminish it with these "add ons". If you want to have some intro to you or your company or product, have that at the beginning and then nothing more after that (except maybe repeat of that at the tail end). This comment not meant as criticism as much as hopefully suggestion to enhance the quality of your videos.

    • @sounderdavis5446
      @sounderdavis5446 2 года назад

      Get them professionally sharpened by Cloud's rather than DIY to avoid damage. But first be sure to try adjusting tension on grooming scissors. See another video for how. The scissors can be sharp, but if the tension is off, scissors will fold hair instead of of cut it. Scissors go out of proper tension often. Like clipper blades, even when tensioned correctly, eventually scissors do go dull and need professional sharpening.
