Now everyone obsesses over the best PVP build in deepwoken or the best PVE build, but obsessing over the best builds in deepwoken removes the creativy and mystery this game was supposed to have. They most likely finished world events before conquest, but later decided to drop them both on the same update

arch himself said that the mechanics for world events has been done months ago but the act of actually making unique world events for the game can take a real long time so they decided since conquest can be pushed out faster, they'll focus on that whil still working on world events
idk what losers convinced the devs to do conquest instead of world events, bc i wanted way bigger world events than just having ships be more common and those bandit outposts..

With Deepwoken we were promissed to get a hardcore, lore-heavy, roguelite, adventure game with survival elements but all we have now is barely different from an anime bandit beater

I still stand by my opinion that layer 2 should have been an open world. They could have made layer 1 if you die sending you to layer 2 and then onwards fitting with the lore of you sinking farther the stronger your soul is. You know how fucking fun it would be working your way up from the deepest layer because you fucked around and accidentally died. Yes it would be annoying but it would get faster and faster, and there would be ways to go straight to the surface (not to confident w the lore but i think i heard somewhere where its not just a ladder you can go up however you please)

It doesn't really feel like a goliath of a city captivated by the tide, it has like 3 NPCs. If a whole civilization was drowned don't you think there would be more life even in the depths? There is no way that a city bigger than Etris has nothing to do in it.@@Gloomba
Legit went from lore heavy gritty adventure with a side of survival and actual uses for pots/cooking, but now is just better combat anime mashup swinging glowsticks at each other. Everything changed the moment Ash Slam dropped

i think there was supposed to be a balance between pvp, pve and exploration. now theres a very clear split between permafreshies who gave up on pvp and resort to one shotting mobs, and chime players. exploration has completely evaporated and the only remnant of fun exploration is fort merit which is completely irrelevant now unless you need one of the mediocre looking coats.

Bro i would love if they let people join factions, so fighting each other isn't just for "fighting" and also if the devs would stop dropping all the info update it would be so fun
maestro is proof that not dropping all the info increases engagement in the game, people were talking about how to find the new boss for about a week. A layer 2 size update with a lot of info hidden may keep us engaged for a much longer time

The game is beyond saving, the only updates that come out now only feel like theyre here just to add new stuff like they changed the player list and inventory for like the 20th time and nobody cares. The game is high quality but its changed way too much and they took too much terrible advice from people who dont know what theyre talking about.
I do wish they would stop adding a bunch of pvp stuff as half of them are broken af on release anyways.
I always think of how this could be implemented in various games cause of how memorable of a sequence that was for derailing off of the normal gameplay cycle , and how better it could be :
Imagine if in layer 3 first time you head down there, imagine if they just took smt 3's dante/raidou chase sequence and applied it as the big gameplay piece of layer 3. Like just have Pleesky roam around and be on a hunt for the new entity that has somehow made its way to layer 3, being you. And you would spend a good time in layer 3 if u were trying to get an oath or something unique to it (idk make 1 sinners ash be guarenteed upon completion).
I just imagine that the devs would try to have unique experiences for each layer as they add more. Layer 1 centered around the randomness of mobs and players, 2 being mostly a roguelike run to explore most of layer 2 quickly and then get back out, 3 just being a chase sequence with not a lot of time to chill at safe spots within layers (like firfire or castle light).

This is true i think the proficency erudition songchant vitality thing sucked and uppercuts are still super wacky with no fix instanced made the world feel like a lobby and nothing has risks anymore its just boring with obvious paths and no other options tempo is meh honestly ok but erudition makes it braindead map hasnt changed since start of verse 2 except little bits instead it got smaller with literally nothing in the overworld only 2 bosses arent instanced rn skeleton key is literally a dev spec which is low effort assasinations got gutted instead of spark swap who can still cheese to this day half of the ideas arent even finished💀

i wish i could play the old version of deepwoken. the animations are much more crisp and snappy, the mantra and weapon crafting is sick, and the quests look cool as fuck. devs wont release it though, because the playerbase will realize it's more fun.

the pvp is great the way it is now they just need less crazy mantras, why do i have to see 3 fucking crazy waves of animations on a mantra, they should've stayed at fireblade, wind curve type mantras and made mantras more like support and stuff

Arch has said multiple times that he enjoys working on pvp more than pve. That's one of the reasons why Conquest came first
Other reason was cuz World Events takes longer.
It has been good for the game tho. The average player count has tripled and the weeklies are way better compared to before.
I got so tired of deep woken and pvp to the point I literally went out, found books, and intentionally tried to study the lore of the game's world.
the only thing I really remember is the summer company's song you can find in one of the books, and a story about a vesperian getting burnt alive by somebody for killing some other person to acquire shadow casting
If most of the deep devs worked all together to make the updates, they wouldnt drop new mantras every week and the game wouldnt become this braindead ahh elemental battlegrounds like experience and exploration and pve interactions would still be the main focus of the game, with pvp being just a plus on your gameplay.
Deepwoken is about your adventure on a world that's slowly dying while resisting the tides, not a battlegrounds fighting game in a world that's slowing dying because everyone is either in an instanced server or in chime.

IMO I feel most bosses need a major rework because of their simplicity and easy to learn.
Primadon is a prime example i mean look at dis guy. 3 stomps, 1 stomp, KICK. That it. I feel like he could have smth like ethiron where we can go up in a spiral to like hit his head a few times then get taken back to ground.
They also need better loot in some cases. Look at duke all he drops regularly is just random gear and o Asti only a shattered if ur lucky get like an idol or curved or smth

thats arguably just you getting better at the game, its frustrating to spend months on a game and for it to still be hard.
plus for me the maestro is the perfect example of what they should do, bosses like: primadon, chaser, ethiron, all have the punishment that you either wipe or go to the depths without chance of repetition, which adds to their difficulty though their simplicity.
for harder bosses they should yes be way harder but more chance of repetition to eliminate frustration, and maestro just checks the boxes, and for how hard it is you also get cool loot.

mantra spam def killed it for me and how large and dumb you could make the mantras i thought mantras were to mix up m1 based combat but it has just turned into throwing out every mantra you have that does a true combo that you cant avoid and layer 2 being what it is deepwoken was the idea of there not being a goal no end of the road you keep finding something new and having fun with that mystery but layer 2 is just direct you do this beat this boss and boom you get whatever you need to mid max and thats just not fun it makes layer 2 dry and the only thing you do is the bosses over and over its empty theres no ongoing thats why they hate the overworld they hate the og idea of no goal no end of the road its hard to make a game where it keeps going theres more mystery to be uncovered but thats what they advertised when it was in testing and we got that once it came out but then they started to get bored of it so here we are

Mantra is too strong sadly but they are nerfing it so W but the mantra problem has been active since verse 1 imo they buffed proficiency greatly it’s comparable or even better than song chant now

what you said about stealth is completely false. the reason why we had to use stealth back then is because we were so bad we couldnt parry the npcs. nobody is stopping bad players now from doing stealth now to cheese the npcs like we did back then
regarding what you said about missions, i wish they'd open an old version of deepwoken to see how shit and repetitive the progression with the OG "missions" were like, you would legit quit the game within the first few weeks/months because the lack of diversity - its like playing the same singleplayer game over and over again
one thing i do agree about is the lack of new pve content, but even then as far as im aware they're working on it
you've had 2-3 years of entertainment from deepwoken and it seems like you're just nitpicking to find issues now

old systems were flawed but if worked on probably could have been infinitely better than todays current systems. Imagine if they kept the old map and content systems and worked on them over the next 2 years like they have. i made two vids on this topic

I am currently having fun with deepwoken because i am a freshie and have not done everything. I still havent beaten layer 2.
But i can imagine myself hopping off once i get done with it. Because there is almost no variety to deepwoken.
The exploration of the world is the most fun part of deepwoken... but once its all explored, i think i will be done with the game tbh.

All ima say is deepwoken can give you atleast a good 1000 hours of fun content and weather you have fun past that is upto how much you really like the game.

Deepwoken changed VERY quickly, only a few weeks and everything was pvp because of luck
that's the reason im making my own game with a progression based on EXPLORATION and similar but more unique systems(Like an entire modular weapon crafting system for example)
deepwoken devs dont know how to cook and when they do they forget about it until is too late or they just ruin it

If you wanna know more about the game: the most important part is the player learning how the world works and then using that at his advantage to survive
Mainly with combat, magic and many other system interactions like some building or cooking and making potions for buffs
Thats why the progresion will be tied A LOT to exploration and training or learning new things, and because of that, some common rpg systems like leveling wont be present in the game
But to make that work, the world needs to be alive and vivid(not like deepwoken lol)

they should honestly just announce balance changes, imagine someone clicks M and a whole maps open, imagine how much cooler that would have been if they didnt announce it. even for the heavy and light weapons of maestro, imagine someone with a dagger build talked to him randomly and he was suddently in the boss fight. there should be like a small media ban where content creators can only showcase the things after the majority of the playerbase figured on their own

I like how Etris has been raided at least a few thousand times and the Authority has continuously tried over and over with no success
I agree that deep should be pve focused with pvp aspects, its just that devs are focusing on pvp oriented content because pve content takes a lot of time and effort. they'd rather push out conquest so that the community will be able to finally eat after year long drought. The diluvian mechanism compared to the future pve content took only a day because they basically didnt have to add any new mobs, just a new game mode. If the devs were to focus on world events, then we probably wouldnt see a major update in over a year. Mob creations with all the tracking, modeling, and its moves takes forever, like when's the last time we got a new monster. Remember the devs still see deepwoken as a passion project and as a hobby, they are not money hungry what so ever ☠☠. They are millionaries already, just be thankful they are still updating the game.
also they didnt forget about world events, they literally have it set up, they just need to fill it up with content. which yet again takes a lot of time, just be patient
Had an idea come to mind for a potential surface world encounter in a cave, whether fixed locale in Etrean to give it more content, or a spawn in void sea.
A whole idea that im planning on getting S rank or whatever so I can put in in suggestion.
A fleshed out mini boss of sorts, with unique moves, timings, maybe it's own phase, a potential oath i've considered revolving around the idea of monster hunting without being a soulless monster hunter copy cat.
Too bad i know doing this is gonna get it ignore by the devs even if it ends up getting upvoted because I want not pvp content added 😂
The way deepwoken ended up isn't soley greed, much of the dev team has repeatedly shown to be completely incompetent. The lead devs seem to have no idea what makes a game like deepwoken fun, and they add/remove things with little thought about how it will impact the game. The most obvious example is permadeath and PVP mixed in an RPG, they just thought "hey rouge lianage has permadeath, so we should add it too!". For most people the thought of permadeath in a game with PvP and lengthy progression sounds like a terrible idea (because it is) and it led to this gradual abandonment of PvE and story mechanics to compensate. The obvious answer would be to develop the overworld more with quests and better progression, and only have permadeath on in the depths. Now that dying never sends you to the depths add more methods of getting there, and flesh it out (basically make it overworld 2) so the reward is worth it for those seeking the thrill of high-stakes PvP. This would add more to the game for both hardcore and casual players, as casuals could enjoy the PvP and PvE without the stress, and hardcore players would like having a more thematic and rewarding location to wipe other players in. Causals/newbies would even get the chance to see this whole other world down there, and be inspired to improve at the game to be able to explore it. Player retention, easier onboarding, and a better more cohesive game overall.
I created that concept in 20 seconds, it's really not that hard to draft gameplay mechanics for this game concept. But ragooner and the gang seem to misunderstand games so heavily they can't make basic gameplay decisions like that.
I think a hard part about implementing stealth into games that aren't built specifically around it is making it just a "get out of playing the game free" button that lets you ignore gameplay that it took days of dev time to make, deep could definitely do better though

One of the few takes you've said that I actually agree with. Rogue Lineage was a good game not only because it was mysterious but because it was hard, tedious, yet still extremely rewarding. I feel like the devs took out a shit ton of random islands and content in Deepwoken before release just because it didn't really have a purpose, and then continued to dumb the games difficulty and ease of access down drastically after release and layer 2. Each update another corner is cut. Sure, I love quality of life updates and things that make progression less tedious, but it's gotten to a point where it just has nowhere near the difficulty or "work to satisfaction" level of Rogue Lineage. They keep trying to make the game easier for newer players, but the only reason why Deepwoken gets no real popularity in the Roblox space is sadly because its paid access. One of the old thrills of Rogue was fighting someone with an artifact/godspells because you knew that its not only dangerous to fight but hard to get and relatively rare. But when you're power 20 in Deepwoken, you are the same power 20 as everyone else. Every fight is just so boring compared to a game now devolving into mostly pvp.

There're some aspects from now that I like, such as new hybrid mantras and talents that encourage you to try out mixing stuff (I should remark Im talking from the PvE side, I dont play PvP), but true I too guess that some of the stuff you mentioned would be nice to have. Except media ban, I don't want to spend what little time I have investigating something that will most likely dissapoint me if someone else can do it already.

I really agree with this. I've been struggling with wiping to Voidwalkers and I'd enjoy the game more if Voidwalkers can't remove lives because it's stupid wiping to PvPers who have better kits/builds and PvP experience than a noob who has only had the game for around a month. I also agree that PvE is a bit too easy but maybe they could add level scaling to monsters so a freshie doesn't get ambushed by a massive owl wanting prey (yes this happened to me.) Even though I'm still a noob in Deepwoken, I do still think that more could be improved and maybe they could add a more PvE based origin. I am open to criticism because of my points or my current status in the community.
While I agree with all of your points and how the game's image has been shifted to a pvp sense, I honestly like having pvp in the game more than the pve. To be fair maybe its because all monsters and bosses have like 2 to 6 moves but pvp really adds variety. The only problem is that there is meta in pvp and makes every fight the exact same. I love the idea of voidwalker but again is ruined by meta and just made to be a chore players have to go through every 5 minutes while progressing.
i love how now they are literally just adding weapons and mantras that make 0 sense with deepwoken's story and general vibe (see the maestro weapons except maybe purple cloud, stormseye, imperial staff, the whole of ironsing, the new ice fissure, all the new anime ass mantras etc.) just to try and make people play the game still cus new stuff that looks like battlegrounds games = more kids paying for deepwoken. deep is falling to the roblox meta and they arent trying to sway from it. lore is nowhere to be seen and keeps getting worse update after update and the world is so devoid of mistery and danger that you can literally press m for a map now (not that it is a bad update, i love having to discover the map, just goes to show how badly the exploration aspect has degenerated) conquest is already looking grim and just another meta defining pvp gamemode and chime meta keeps getting worse every week because devs refuse to nerf anything that they use (see ironsing and gale). i dont see myself playing deepwoken for more than a couple months into conquest. it currently has 0 direction, 0 mystery, 0 lore and a level cap that is extremely limiting to further developments of the game.
Dude my hype for deepwoken almost died day one when I spawned and saw the new animations and m1s your character had, as well as the big ass city (Etris) we start in that had a weird steam-punky vibe with all the pipes after I first booted up the game with my friends. The hype was still there kinda cuz I wanted to learn the lore and the world and I saw some cool shit like a vid showing old obfuscation enchant that made a greatsword swing as fast as a dagger but it really felt like a different game compared to what I was looking forward to for so long and I just felt very fucking frustrated.

I’m a new deepwoken player I started 2-3 days ago I’ve just been full grinding and looking up ways to get stronger. For me the problem is there isn’t enough guide content on RUclips. Idk how to get these cool things other players are getting idk how to discover/play in layer 2. Other games have tutorials that are simple and tell me exactly what I need and have to do. I wish deepwoken was like that but I have to try and find it all myself and it’s frustrating. Exploring is fun sometimes but the map is too big for me to know how to get everything. I just get gripped by some guy who has everything I want before I can even explore to get those things
For a game thats main appeal from the beginning was supposed to be the atmosphere and immersion into the world, having ZERO changes to the world asides from the extremely minor additions that came with layer 2 (only miners landing and meteor isle, both of which ALREADY EXISTED before release and were just scrapped) in like 300 in game years is absurd

Honestly, the one update that peak my slowly dwindling interests in deepowken was the Maestro boss fight. That's because it was a pve boss that had lore stuff attached to it. If they add more things like that maybe i would start to enjoy it deepwoken again.... But as of now I will probably never touch it in at least a year at the rate it is going.

Honestly. I been looking for games that are not made by a large group of developers just so I can get the same feeling as deepwoken. Lost souls is an example but it is absolutely unknown and it is still in testing phase so normally people wouldn't be able to get into it, however it is absolutely peak and fire and will be better than deepwoken if the game has media ban

They should nerf mantra damage or give more elm or mantra resisting equipment/ talents, I feel like combos are fine because for the most part for some of them you do really need to practice but there are lots of braindead ones

As someone who has waited for deepwoken to drop since early 2020, It makes me so sad to see what the game turned out to be. Arch mage also said that they might release an old version of the game in order to show how the game wasn't really better than what we have now, but i disagree. Maybe the gameplay was boring and stuff but the idea and the atmosphere that the old deepwoken had was what we all wanted to enjoy. They shouldn't had changed it all and they should've kept following that way (referring to what you talked about in the video) while making the gameplay better. Really, I still LOVE watching the pre release videos with a simple combat, not fully based on mantra spamming, and a bigger and misterious map. I think we need to keep pushing forward with this topic because I still want the game I used to be so amazed about. Really, Deepwoken was my dream game when i used to watch all the leak videos and stuff. That's the game I've always wanted to play.
I want to add I didnt seen a long time any normal tier weapon ( like pale morning etc ), every weapon has been added was "legendary".
I want enchants to be rare again, like pre laplace

the last point is exactly how i feel, its like instead of people interested in the games lore and making cool and/or creative builds while trying to impact the game. Deepwokens developers literally just cater to the min max mindless meta pvp AND pve builds that all look the same, require you to have these stats or these weapons or just wipe for missing even a single stat point. What i hate the most to is shrine of order was supposed to be a tool for more creative builds and all it did was make the dual attunement blox fruits playstyle meta across all fields of play. Limbus Company better imo though

As a new player i can say this video aged like fine wine. 2 Updates later i buy the game and i havent killed a single sharkoo once. They thought it was a good idea so you gain mastery every time you land a crit so i just farmed in isle of vigils till power 15 and then did some bandit farming

What if we created this secret order within the community of deepwoken. We gather people under the noses of the developers and slowly gain influence. We would also gather RUclipsrs who have far more of an influential impact than the normal people. The whole purpose of this secret society is to radically change the game of deepwoken into what it was actually promised, in a positive way of course. If we isolate the developers and the community under one demand then the developers have no choice but to listen and fix the path they once intended to take. Idk reply if you Interested.

yeah i now rmb why i enjoyed this game when it first release, i knew nothing about it and it was mysterious and the game was actually quite challenging but now the progression seems like a simulator

i really hope that after conquest we get a pve update that is atleast three times bigger than layer two was to make up for the lack of *actual* pve content (y'know that isn't a copy paste of an already existing mechanic or isn't made in a single day or two and gets actually polished)

It feels as if the devs disconnected from the community
I used to love those days going trough the overwold just to get sent to the depths as a freshie and having to find my way out of there without dying, but today that won't even happen because there's no incentive to exploring and we're literally saturated with the amount of xp we get.
And instead of more PVE content that's actually challenging so that we have a chance to wipe we get a harder trial at X drowns that no one asked for.
The game isn't hard, you'll only wipe to an unfortunate event or to some dude that felt like ruinning your day and wiping mid progression doesn't hit as hard as before because again, you get xp so fast since the game turned a 160° defree turn and shifted its focus towards min maxers.
We literally went from fighting to survival to seeing who can be the sweatiest person in X content.
Maybe we shouldn't nerf xp gain but we should at least make players a little less busted (posture breaking endgame mobs from a few m1s to a single mantra is not ok), make the enviroment feel more hostile like idk bottomless pits, something like the acid pool at eirisa, nests of monsters (which could also serve as high risk high rewards for players) just something but the world of deepwoken feels dead, rarely any place makes you feel like you shouldn't be there besides falling to layer 2 mid progression without lighthook.
There's probably more stuff to be worked on like npcs but those are some changes I would like to see. (specially a mantra pve nerf jesus christ)
in a nutshell deepwoken has made the mistake of making PVP the main way to play the game, instead of a thing you can do whilst enjoying the adventure game

one thing i despise about deep’s pvp as well is that not metamancing and creating an op ass minmaxed silentheart or hybrid attunment means that you literally cannot win against those who do. it’s not skill when you mash instant unreactable guardbreaks that do 30% of your hp per mantra, fun combat my ass

I originally played deep 2 years ago, and played only pvp on etris, not knowing of any other islands. It was so much fun and shrouded in mystery, Now it is plain pvp, bad pve, no stealth mechanics, and really repetitive. It seems like the devs dont care anymore.

Deepwoken is a good game but the fact that there has really been no added lore since the ingame year was 1291, (or early 2022) is just plain disappointing. No characters have aged a day, lord regent still has his butt on the seat, and meanwhile, our characters are old stinky men

I really want them to stick to lore it’s my favorite part about the game. But even if the added stealth missions and a lot of alternatives I feel like we would all still be complaining because of how much we play lol.
I genuinely hate how many of deepwoken players are just pvp focused, i want to explore the world and learn the combat instead of getting jumped constantly, just because theres multiple factions that hate you at the start, making it extremely annoying to try to progress at all because of how many voidwalkers just come at me for a bounty from a faction that i havent even seen yet. I can barely even learn combat, and especially pvp if i keep getting jumped. Deepwoken pvp sucks, especially because the game is pretty much permadeath, so you can lose a start of a build just because a random ass faction decides to put a bounty on you without ever seeing crap about you and a voidwalker takes said bounty
