I remember when grit that low was illegal and the two handed release that 99% of 2 handed bowlers use was illegal *( back then at the point of release of you had both hands still on the ball it was an illegal release that’s why belmo’s style is so pure he bowled with those rules almost every other two hander has both hands on the ball at release even Osku and if you threw your first shot your second shot had to be thrown in the same manner you couldn’t stick your thumb in to spare that was illegal )* I miss the old rules of ABC, USBC is a terrible organization and cheap I bowled a 299 I got a cheap plaque under ABC I woulda been able to get a ring and then there keychain awards lol patch’s were so much better than these new crappy cheap keychain awards, only thing about ABC was for 800 series all you got was a patch now you get a ring I bowled my first 800 when i was 13 at a tournament I bowled an 803 I took second the kid that beat me bowled a 300 game my scotes were 279, 265, 259 for that tourney I carried a 222 avg back then but that was just on a house pattern I’ve bowled so many un sanctioned 300’s it’s crazy I hate how the bowling alley gets quite when you go to throw shot 12 that throws me off and I always 298 or 299 or the dreaded 290 gutter ball finish to 11 in a row if it were quite all night it would be different but it load as all get out on a 100+ person league I’ve had back to back 300’s in practice best practice series not that it means anything is 879, leaving 10 pins you gotta love em if your right handed usually my 299’s are stone 10’s, 8’s are most often caused by splits for me anyhow maybe USBC will stop being so cheap, one day I’ll get my ring I can finally bowl again and my body is fixed and square so I should bowl better now before my shoulders were twisted upper back hunched and killer back/neck pain since I can remember I was born with un caught spina bifida I’ve had two fusion surges and I’m ready to get back at it and now I know that to bowl on Sport/PBA patterns you really need a urethane ball for those short low volume oil patterns or to build a hook area in practice on a heavy 1:1 oil pattern I set the lowest average since I was like 10 when I bowled my first PBA experience league I set a 149 I was carrying a 202 at the time in league huge difference you miss by one board and your shot isn’t gonna hook or hook too much it’s crazy how exact you have to be but there are drills for that I had a PWBA Coach when I was little once I started beating her at about age 12-13 she said there was no point in her teaching me anything else I coulda probably made to tour but I could only get one sponsor that wouldn’t cover everything I tried but my finances plus my single sponsor wasn’t enough back then things you regret I shoulda tried to get more sponsors but when your 18 you don’t know about things like that I had no clue how to go about it there was no internet
Just a FYI, every 2 hander you just named releases the ball with 1 hand. Go watch slow motion video of Osku. He's one handed just like Belmo. Same as Maldonado, Simonsen, Chris Via, Packy etc. That aside, hope you are able to get back into the game and have some fun.
