I have noticed the deep hooking in the lower gills also. I use the 6 inch Albino also. I quickly released my bass, but wondered if they survived the treble hook to the gills.
That is weird. I honestly fish mine shallow. I really never leave sight of it. I’m usually throwing at structure or docks. But I’m sure if you cast it out and let it sink and slow roll it back it should stay down some. But it will probably gradually come back up as you retrieve it. Have you caught any fish on it?
Try swapping the treble hook for an inline hook. It won't stop the deep hooks in the mouth but it will reduce any damage caused by the hooks since you're only using a single hook.
So someone else commented on this and tried to remove the harness and treble hook and rig it up on the top and the bait won’t balance at all. You can see there comment on here
I just went out and studied a transparent 6 inch cull shad. You can “unscrew” the auger like hook keeper from the belly of the bait. Just screw it back in on the top of the bait. Then take split ring pliers and detach the hook swivel assembly from its attachment. Then get some 50-60 pound braid and tie it to the front main line attachment. Then tie the braid to the main hook only at the correct length for the hook keeper. I don’t see any need for the swivel assembly since the braid will now act as a “soft swivel”.
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 i went out and tried my hook modification today on the lake, and it does not work. The swimbait spun in the water and is out of balance. The big treble hook gives the bait weight down low and acts like a keel. I saw Chris Zaldain in a video add a top treble hook to a magdraft. My modification did not work. I actually ruined the bait. Just an update.
It seems every bottom hook soft swimbait do the same thing so I cut the harness out and use them with weighted swimbait hooks and also the Bass Mafia swimbait is freakin awesome and it runs perfect no matter what speed you fish it and it’s a single top hook.
No this video here was not filmed on Guntersville however it will catch them there. Just trying to see if anyone is having the same issue I am with them. Thanks for watching
Can't get a fish to commit to it. I like a lot of features it has. You might be able to get away with an assist hook on top but need to counter that added weight with something on the belly. Nail or dropper type weight on the belly.
That is what I was thinking is getting the weight right to make it swim correct if you move the hook. Would love to see them come out with a top hook model. But if no one else is having issues I doubt it will happen. Thanks for watching and commenting
Man I cannot keep them off my 8 inch, I put a top hook and tied it off with 65 lb. Braid. Cannot believe the bites, I am simply fishing it around edges.
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 I have the new ones and yes with a 1/16th nail weight it still rolls once reeled fast. But when reeling slow it looks nice and hoping to catch a hog on it.
It’s crazy cause what time I have used it I like how it swims and catches fish just hooking them really deep and I don’t like that for the fish. Thanks for watching and sharing your comment.

Same I also wondered.
I can't get it to go more than a foot deep. I have nail weights in all holes. 20lb Floro, Med Hvy rod. I fish out of a kayak.

I have only used the 8 inch and it gets bites no problem with gut hooking.
Interesting I have not tried the 8. Thanks for sharing your results. And thank you for watching.

I haven't had that problem yet. I am using a high speed reel with yo-zuri braid on medium heavy 7 foot rod.
I’m using fluorocarbon with a 7 speed reel and a MH rod. Thanks for sharing your results.

Would be curious if it swims true
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 i will try it out tomorrow.

@@af4od02 thanks for letting me know and giving a update. Maybe something will change with the bait soon.
@@joshandhuntersadventures5046 I checked Tackle Warehouse and Berkley does sell a hookless version of the Cull Shad. I believe 5” and 6”.
Impressive!!
Give them a try. Really good early in the spring. Thanks for watching!

I have heard the Bass Mafia is good. I am going to give it a try. Thanks for sharing!
Havent used it yet, but I may. Im guessing this wasnt on Guntersville, as I didnt see a blade of eelgrass...

My does 360 in the water but we I work it slow it works
Ya this bait was designed to reel slow.

The problems I have with it is it it rolls when reeling In fast. It says it will come straight any speed but that’s not true. Has to be slow rolled
Do you have the new one or the old one that was recalled. Also have you tried a nail weight in the slots in the bottom?

@@jeufuyang6261 they do catch big ones that is for sure. I always slow roll mine anyway. Good luck
That’s no good. Same with ned rigs they choke it. I probably wouldn’t throw it for that reason
