What is it that every garden web site I am on everybody wears a white shirt when they are going to play in the dirt. I have to laugh, however they seem to stay nice and clean. Me on the other hand end up dirty and have to decide that when I am gardening then I had better wear something dark. Thank you for taking us along with you and looking forward to seeing how this lovely rose does throughout this growing season. Take care and have a wonderful day.
I started with Julia Child, not thinking I could grow roses and having the best success with her. I’ve since added over a dozen David Austin roses this year. This is going to be a stunning year in my garden. I’m so excited for you, Jenny. I can’t can wait to see you highlight Sweet Juliet through the season💜 Also, I’m watching your Fairy…might need to add this rose, she seems very reliable.
Boy your good 👍no dirt on white shirt I would be a mess in a minute. Lol . Love watching you , you are so natural .my seeds were planted to early I’m still hoping they make it . I will plant more outside later when snow is over here in Mi. Brrr .have a good day 🐰🐰
I was never a rose fan until I was introduce to David Austin. I currently have 2 in my garden and a 3rd is on the way. The two I have are The Poet's Wife and Boscobel. The one on the way is Desdemona.🌹🌹🌹🌹
I ordered three Julia child roses this year, I want to group plant them in a large area. Any time I’m able I like to buy fragrant flowers, trees, shrubs, it’s so nice to walk into an area and catch the scent of something that flowering at the moment. Last year my passion fruit put on a show and even my husband made a comment about how nice it smelled outside. We live in an area that is surrounded on three sides by farm fields, nice but when they decide to fertilize with pig manure it’s gets real smelly real fast, so smelling something that is not pig manure is very nice. Also I should mention that there are very large pig farmers in the area and sometimes we get the smell from distant farms wafting through the area, hence me trying to mask the smell just a little in my own little section of the world. 🌷💚🙃
you can put them in a bucket of water. we do this for years with our roses. We live in zone 5 and always get them too early to putout. Love David Austin roses, and your videos!!
I am agnostic when it comes to most environmental things. There are highly paid people on both sides of these issues who spin wildly for their side. It's hard to know what to believe. I am at a point in my life where things are much harder for me to do so I often do things the easiest way for me. I have some patches where it is too difficult and doesn't make sense for me to hand weed, so I use Roundup. I will try the Captain Jacks weed killer, but will not hesitate to go back to Roundup if it doesn't work.
we avoid Miracle Grow stuff too for same reason! no GMO plants either! glad to hear you know your stuff. we need to educate people to these things. your local cooperative extension has much info on these subjects!
I'm sure glad you like hearing from us because I sure like to comment. Lol I have 4 Rose bushes and one climber I planted last year. I bought 2 that were bare root from QVQ. Bliss and Earth Angel. Bare root roses were new to me. Actually these were the first roses I ever planted. I soaked them in water as instructed and did the mound of earth like you showed. They did great and both had pretty blooms last year. Then later on I bought an At Last and an Italian Rose. Got them from Proven Winners. Also 3 mini Roses from QVC. Everything bloomed except my climber. It's called Rasberry Twirl. But it looked healthy last year so hopefully will give me some blooms this year. I would love a Poets Wife Rose from David Austin but no space left right now. If I expand a flower bed later I would add one.
What a beautiful rose! I added a DA William Lobb to my backyard a few weeks ago. I’m looking forward to seeing both of our roses grow this season. How exciting!
What a beautiful rose! I have a problem with Japanese beetles and roses so I gave up on roses but when I see such beautiful blooms makes me want to try again!
It looks a lovely healthy rose with a good root system and branching. I often have a couple of extra trug's that I use for a planting pot. They come in handy for quick jobs like a temporary planting pot. Its quick to drill holes in one for drainage. They are also colourful for annuals. Have you tried disposable/surgical type gloves for quick planting jobs instead of gardening gloves. They do come in handy for quick jobs, especially when planting seeds or pricking out seedlings.
I haven't tried disposable gloves... sounds like it would work well. Honestly, I don't mind getting my hands dirty. I like the feel of the soil. Weird, I guess. :-)
That one is a beauty Jenny! I have a few david Austin roses: Boscobel, Alnwick, Olivia Rose Austin, Carding Mill, Lady Gardener, Abraham Darby, Eustacia Vie, and one that recently died Jubilee Celebration. I love them, but they dint love me back. Rose's do terribly for me in my zine 6b garden. Yellow leaves, black spot etc. I refrained from ordering anymore this year as I'm considering giving up on Rose's. As beautiful as they are, they don't fare well for me and require too much upkeep. The only Rose's that are OK for me, are my double pink knockouts.
Sorry to hear roses aren't working for you. I wonder if it's a soil issue? I'm not sure... I bet your extension office could offer some advice? good luck!
Jenny - so happy you posted this video! I ordered Emily Brontë last April (2021) and just got the notice today that it shipped!! I am excited and nervous for my first english rose! Was just thinking it is too cold to plant yet here in 6A in Eastern Mass. this is perfect - now I know what to do! Thank you so much for sharing this video!!
Morning! The Harlow Carr DA I ordered in July that was supposed to come mid May showed up Tuesday night. I potted mine up in a nursery container too and it's living in the laundry room. It did get to spend Wednesday on the patio but freezing temps again for a little bit longer and still no where to plant it yet lol.
Look forward to seeing her blooming. Just looking at the planting guide that came with mine, says to plant a bare root rose 2" below the top of the hole. If you haven't seen Paul Zimmerman Roses channel you might enjoy that one. I ordered Emily Bornte, she arrived a couple weeks ago, huge roots on her too. I planted her in a huge container as I hope to move sooner then later, and she's going with me. A lot of things are going with me =^)
Greatings from Quebec zone 5a, Last year i planted 3 at last rose, absolutely gorgeous, the color is beautifull and it bloomed all summer it was incredible. I really hope they survived our crazy cold winter here in Canada i protected them with a rose collar that i filled with soil can t wait to see if they survived. Really enjoy your channel
So happy you got your rose!! I have been intimidated by roses and thought about ordering one and they were all sold out. Maybe next year I will give it a try.
You can try other rose sales places, if you want to try one this year. Starting with one is a good way to get some experience. Whatever you decide, good luck!
I have my David Austin roses soaking now so I can plant them later today. Last year I purchased two ramblers in soft pastel colors, this year I ordered two shades of pink climbers. Can’t decide where to plant them either.
Your rose looks beautiful and I hope you get a lot of joy from it. I have to confess I have a love/hate relationship with roses. The endless aphids, not to mention black spot, powdery mildew, rust, and of course, the thorns 👿 However, nothing can ever replace the smell of a beautiful rose in full bloom ❤️
Well, I didn't do that, so...... ;-). There are leaves sprouting all along the canes now, so I think it will be fine. It was already moist when I unpackaged it, so I don't think the roots had dried out.
Thank you for the video! I just received notice that my DA rose Our Lady of Shallot (bare root) will be coming within 14 days. I am not sure where I will put it yet, so I like your idea of putting it temporarily in a pot.
I transplanted her twice since this video... in her final location she's much happier now that the deer don't eat her leaves off. She put out a couple blooms for me last year... hoping this year is better.
Do you still have your sweet Juliet rose bush? I have been looking everywhere for one and can’t seem to find it since DA retired it. I was wondering if I could possibly buy a cutting from you.
Yes, I do have it, in the bottom tier of the back yard gardens. It suffered due to deer damage in the first location it was planted, so I moved it and it is struggling along but alive. Sorry, not doing cuttings.
What I would be concerned about is whether it's grafted. If grafted, the graft has to be above soil level or else the plant used as the root stock will overpower the the rose you want to grow. Sweet Juliet is a lovely rose which i grew in New Orleans. May it live long and prosper!
Can you provide me Juliet rose small root because it is quite expansive in official website and i can't afford it....i am from India and i am a student and i want to gift a Juliet rose to my friend please please please please...

I NORMALLY don't wear white, but this day I planned poorly. :-). I'm a totally messy gardener, too.
Can't wait for this to bloom and produce flowers ♥️
Me too! No buds yet, but lots of new growth.

Sounds like a plan. We all have to do what works best for us.
I too try to avoid miracle grow but sometimes it’s all that’s available when you need soil. 🌷💚🙃
Yep, so true.
we avoid Miracle Grow stuff too for same reason! no GMO plants either! glad to hear you know your stuff. we need to educate people to these things. your local cooperative extension has much info on these subjects!
There's a lot of conflicting info out there, and I'm not completely anti-GMO... but we each have to do what feels right to us. :-)

I have a few roses, I just love the flowers so much. But yes, they are a bit more trouble than some other plants.
That is a beautiful rose but I would like to know do you have to let the roots of that rose soak in water before planting it?
Well, I didn't do that, so...... ;-). There are leaves sprouting all along the canes now, so I think it will be fine. It was already moist when I unpackaged it, so I don't think the roots had dried out.

Yes, potting it up does help out, especially when we don't know quite where to plant it for real! Good luck!
Congrats 👏. My David Austin's are here yet
Hopefully yours will arrive safe and sound very soon!
How much are you charging for a cutting?
I don't sell plants, sorry.
Branch is free ?
Is there an update on this baby ?! Is there progress I am hoping to grow some out myself for they are my favorite!

Will do. She's moving from the front yard to the back yard in a week or two, hope to film/publish that.
Guys , let me know where to order this beautiful plant.. i would like to have it in my garden.. any website is there to order ?
I ordered it from the David Austen website, I had to wait 9 months. I put myself on the waiting list for it. Good luck!
What I would be concerned about is whether it's grafted. If grafted, the graft has to be above soil level or else the plant used as the root stock will overpower the the rose you want to grow. Sweet Juliet is a lovely rose which i grew in New Orleans. May it live long and prosper!
That's true, grafted roses need special consideration on planting depth.
Why cant buy a Juliet Rose?
David Austin has stopped selling them in the US, not sure why. I got this one during the last year that they sold them here.
@@HarmonyHillsHomeandGarden i dont in the US ^^ i cant find it...
