      Gibson had SSGs made at their Baldwin piano factory in China for music students and is a copy of a 1964 SG and I picked one up in a liquidation store for only $130.00 CAD. You can find them on eBay for about $200.00 USD. There are also the Epiphone copies which are considerably cheaper. Epiphone is owned by Gibson and I used to have an Epiphone E335 which cost me $800.00 CAD.

My personal favorites are the Les Paul with Humbuckers, Flying Vs, ES-335s, and super-Strats (with a humbucker in the bridge pickup position). Robin Trower went from Gibson in Procal Harum to a Strat on his own songs.

When the countdown got to the Flying V, they showed Jimi playing his because that's the guitar they were talking about. They weren't talking about Jimi Hendrix, or the Strat, or even Fender. They were talking about the Flying V. Did you even notice they showed Lonnie Mack, Albert King and Dave Davies playing their Flying V's? Did you think that when Hendrix popped up he would be on a Strat if they were talking about the Flying V? The beauty of RUclips is that you can replay any section of a video if necessary. Jenna Blue I agree. I wouldn't say that one is necessarily better than the other, but the Strat is more iconic. It's definitely the most influential guitar design - the most outright copied in fact. It's also the most recognisable to those who don't really know guitars. Ask a random punter to draw an electric guitar and they'll probably draw something that looks a bit like a Strat.

Unless they're musos. I hadn't heard of strats or LPs before I took up guitar (although I was a 14 year old kid at that time). Maybe we should try that experiment sometime.

      Accoustic guitars don't count. They are all wood coloured, the strings are impossible to bend and have come in the same shape since the first one was made. You have to be either a luthier or an accoustic guitar salesman to claim there is any difference between any of them. And they are Folkie. I can't get behind that.

    The versatility of the strat should, IMO beat the LP. Just look at the various guitarists playing it: Mark Knopfler, Jimi Hendrix, Yngwie Malmsteen, SRV, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, John Frusciante, Jimi Hendrix etc etc etc
    A Strat can be made into sounding like an LP, but an LP can never sound like a strat. The 3 single coils also provide far more options than 2 humbuckers..

To take it a step further, both Prs and ESP have been sued by Gibson over copyright infringements. This is why you cannot buy a new explorer ESP in the USA legally anymore. @Wishbringer7 8 лет назад +1

      I do think I'd have replaced the Jem with a PRS of some kind.
      Something largely ignored by the video are pieces of hardware involved. sometimes it wasn't the guitar itself, but a major change in hardware. The mentioned the jump from P90s to the humbucker. What about the Bigsby tremolo, the Hardtail, Tune-o-Matic and Floyd Rose systems? Those were certainly game changers that were likely more important than the guitar itself.

    • @RicardoDiazHimself
      @RicardoDiazHimself 8 лет назад +2

      No. And thats because the Jem caused a revolution when it came out in 1987. A lot of technical aspects we take for granted nowdays didnt exists before de Jem. That body shape that has been copied to boredom, didnt really exists before. The soloists were smaller strat shapes at best.
      Just like maybe Floyd Rose bridges are now a pain in the ass and a lot of people avoid them because there are better options now... Back in the day it was a revolution for bridges. A miracle for performers.
      And PRS are cool, but their philosophy has always been to try to achieve the best of 2 iconic guitars that are on this list. Not really a breakthru and most of the time they dont sound like neither.

      +Jim Slam I guess you really like that PRS then, I don't play my 22 as much as my strat. But all of my guitars get played. PRS are good instruments, but they don't cover the tone or feel of a strat or a LP. Scale length is right in the middle as is the body shape.

    • @shoeonhead

      +Jim Slam Oh yeah I definitely agree with that. PRS is definately crazy precise, well researched, and even scientifically devised nowadays. They have absolutely killer quality control. PRS make probably some of the most technically balanced and toned guitars. I kind of rave about them. But you definitely pay for the difference you know? Like it's definitely a superior guitar range to most of what you see out there. But sometimes I get bored of its range of sounds or feel and want to play the strat or lp simply because they're different. It's a personal thing for sure.

      LP more durable than a Strat? Strats can take far more of a beating than the LP, and if something does break, you can easily swap it out. As for craftsmanship, they are pretty much the same. Unless you're talking about custom shop stuff, the standard lines of both those guitars get roughly the same amount of work. And Customizability? Strat. Value for money? Strat.

      +Joel Glisson (Mirror Of Immortals) prs are my favourite guitars, yet i have to admit they are not as "iconic" as ibanezs. and since this is clearly not a top ten of the BEST guitars ever made but of the "most famous", then it's ok prs is not in here i think.

    It's like they ignore the past 35 years or so. No Jackson, no ESP, no Schecter, no EBMM, no PRS. It's silly to put so many Gibson and Fender guitars.

      Alex Corriveau I even like Fender and Gibson. There is no way you could exclude Les Pauls and Strats. I would even want the SG to be there. But the PRS Custom 24, EBMM and an Ovation would all be better choices than some of the ones they picked.

      a washburn n4 has just as good as quality as a strat and does have mention no I don't think so, or does it have charvels, also known as a strat on steroids making them higher in price and quality which has been proven that charvels are better than strats but I digress, the point is that rickenbacker and jem made the list because of who plays them not on quaility, like their top guitarist video, all a popularity contest, angus young has good blues not great blues style but made the list, overrated like page, great musician but overrated, bettencourt and becker have more feeling and play-ability than page, but wheres lynch, or schon, or frankie sullivan, all great but no gratitude so with the same courtesy I will kindly ask you to please shut the hell up and read a book on music because you obviously have no all around knowledge of music or even have respect for guitarist and guitars alike, because I know you will go on to defend page and prove me wrong on that kindly will you ? Thanks bro \m/ \m/

    • @shoeonhead
      @shoeonhead 8 лет назад +1

      +gameroftheyear1000 you can't "prove" that one guitar is better than another. Some strats are better quality than some charvels. It all varies from guitar to guitar, not model to model or brand to brand. You're entitled to your opinion, you're also entitled to looking stupid for making such broad generalizations.

    Regardless of taste, the Stratocaster HAS to be #1, no question about it. 1) has NEVER gone out of production, unlike the Les Paul (the traditional shape, at least) 2) it's by far, the most copied model of guitar, much so that another body shape and style of guitar was created after the Stratocaster: the Superstrat 3) on the list of most expensive guitars of all time, a Stratocaster occupies the most places. So you got it wrong, Mojo

    Fender Jazzmaster for me. Comfortable body, distinctive sound, really nice trem system, looks beautiful. So many innovative guitarists used it as their no. 1, people like Kevin Shields, J Mascis, Tom Verlaine, Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, Nels Cline... the list is endless. Personally I really dislike the Les Paul, really uncomfortable for me to play.

      That’s a good point. I feel insulted when someone gets a top guitar for their first one. I mean the fact is, is that you are not going to appreciate how good it is if you are a learner. If you are a good guitarist then you will appreciate the instrument and you will understand why it is good. A good guitar compliments well to good playing.

      false. They're about equally as popular. Both are about equally as good except probably 15x as work goes into making a LP then a strat. It feels that way too. I prefer the LP BC I like the music LP is better suited for, but also because of the sustain, and because it feels like a tank. It doesn't feel like a dainty flower like a strat. Although both are the best basically.
