Hello my dear friends! 👋💕 How’s your first week of 2024? I’ve been receiving comments and messages asking if I’m okay from the recent earthquake. Thank you so much everyone for your concern🥹. I’m fine and my place wasn’t affected so much by the earthquake🤗. I hope everyone is also doing well.💕 Stay safe and have a wonderful day! ❤️

It is true what you think/say!!! The producers are obliged to put an expiring date on the products. That doesn’t mean that the product will be bad directly. Getting bad depends on the kind of product like f.e. dry pasta will last very long of sugar or salt too. For dry herbs bought in the supermarket (bottled in the factory) it follow no rules and I use it until its finished. When we talk about fresh products like meat/dairy products/eggs …I will not use those products anymore after the expiring date. I think its too dangerous for salmonella or so.
I am also living om my own (since 2013) and it’s hard sometimes like you say. When I have health issues or a problem, I have those difficult moments. At those moments I take a “rescue plant’s based tablet” and then I feel better soon.

Hi Lou C my 1st week of 2024 was good left my job cause it was so awful and stressful. Have 2nd interview tomorrow for something really good. Dont worry about expiration dates especially on goods like pasta, rice, tin goods, seasoning etc it's more of a guidance. It's for fresh foods meats, fish, eggs, milk etc where you need to be careful. Glad you got home too see your family. Take care ❤

It's late, but Happy New Year. One suggestion for your food items, use a sharpie permanent marker to write the date you bought them. Then add the date you open. This will help you track how old they are. Peppercorns and other spices are good for up to 2 years past any expiration date. They just won't taste as strong as when fresh. Thanks for sharing your routines with us. Helps inspire the rest of us in doing our day to day living.

Happy and prosperous 2024 to you Lou. I understand all too well the wonderful feeling to go back to your roots! I did that for 35 years and now I live at my ocean home! Just an FYI on the salt expiry. Salt never expires as it does not contain water. Microbes need water. As well salt is poisonous to most microbes. Salt was hugely important as a food preservative prior to refrigeration. I’m glad that you spent a happy New Year with your family.💕🇨🇦

Wine indeed expires... at least in the sense of usability. Very high quality wines are good for a longer time than lower quality, but wine can get vinegary as it ages. We've saved wine for a special occasion only to have it be vinegary and inedible to drink.

    • @RememberMeYeah
      @RememberMeYeah 11 месяцев назад +1

@@brandylou9132 When stored properly and kept unopened, white wines can often outlive their recommended drinking window by 1-2 years, red wines by 2-3 years, and cooking wines by 3-5 years. Fine wine can typically be consumed for decades. Once opened though, the expiration is about 3-5 days with cool storage.

    • @brandylou9132

@@RememberMeYeah Yes, but my point was not actually about expiration dates. I was responding to the comment that "wine gets better with time". That's just not true. Some wines get vinegary.

Hey Lou, about your food poisoning: Here in Germany, we don't defrost meat with the mircowave 'cause it can very quickly cover your meat with germs. We always thaw it in the fridge the night before. We tend to put minced meat in the microwave if we have to, but never chicken or pork. Maybe this will help you :)

Use a separate cutting board for raw chicken. Never place cooked food or fresh produce on a plate, cutting board, or other surface that previously held raw chicken. Wash cutting boards, utensils, dishes, and countertops with hot soapy water after preparing chicken and before you prepare the next item.

Hi Lou, first comment. In the UK/EU we have a best before end date and a use by, it is probably similar in Japan. Use by is for perishable foods such as chicken, prawns, fresh dairy etc and should not be eaten past the date on the label. Best before is okay to use past the expiry date but the quality might degrade if it is quite far gone but would be perfectly okay to eat and not cause food poisoning. I would have no issue eating food that is a few months past its best before. Happy new year - love your content.

Salt is a mineral. It's also a rock. So, no expiration date unless it has additives. Peppercorn is a dried berry- plant material- so it will have an expiration date (but in proper storage, it's more about the loss of quality/ flavor.) The Himalayan salt for example was already 200 million years old before they mined it and put it in that container you bought. 😁

Salt is a mineral, while peppercorn and other spices are seeds or fruits or whatever, so it makes sense that inorganic matter doesn’t have an expiration date.
In my fridge I have an “Eat me first” box (found the idea in pinterest): things that need to go fast or that are close the expiration date are there. Hope you’re doing well and enjoy the holiday with your family! ❤

To preserve things to last longer. Flour can be put in freezer. Just put in a freezer bag and store in freezer and it will keep longer. Spices if you buy them whole seed keep longer, but should be discarded yearly because they lose their flavor. If you have sauces that come in large bottles freeze it in an ice cub tray and put in freezer bags.

As others have said, salt doesn't expire but an ancient biblical teaching indicates it loses its "savour" (strength and ability to enhance the flavor of whatever you put it on). The same biblical teaching suggests it can be used to kill germs and many dangerous microbes. In ancient times it was used on walkways and streets where animals passed as a sort of disinfectant. It does this very effectively. Love your quiet and calming videos.

Salt never expires. It can get clumpy, but it never goes bad because salt kills bacteria and other microbes that can make food go bad. That is also why salt has often been used to help preserve food and keep it safe to eat for much longer periods of time. So you can keep using the same old box or bag of salt no matter how long it takes to use it all😊

Lucy, salt spends centuries underground without modifying its qualities. Yes, it does not go off, unless you drop something perishable in it, and even then...Peppercorns also don't "expire" as such, but they do lose their aromatic qualities with time.

Salt lasts for literally millions of years, it's a mineral, a rock, unlike the peppercorns which are an organic substance. It can absorb water and turn into one solid lump if in a damp place, but it'll probably outlast the packaging to be honest. Salt mines in the UK are nowadays used for archival storage (double win, paid for the salt you extract and then paid for the holes left behind).

Welcome home, dear sweet Lou. Im gkad you are safely home, and you had a lovely visit with family. Salt basically lasts forever, though the quality can be affected depending upon how you store it. It is also usable as a way to preserve foods. (You can find ways on the internet.) Honey also basically lasts forever. But, storage methods affect quality, and usability. When considering spices, as someone else commented, they don't "spoil", but the taste, texture, strength, and overall quality reduces as they age. This can make buying in bulk a poor investment for a single person, or very small family. It may not be as desirable as paying a few cents more for spices that will taste good, and there will be less thrown away. I put sticky labels with the expiration date where its very visible and create meals usung items that are expiring first.

As for the issue you have, do you have a coworker or friend nearby who also lives alone? You could split the cost of some of those condiments and ingredients and divide them between you into other containers. That way there is no waste and you both get to enjoy them without feeling like the rest will go bad.

You’re so sweet. Salt does not expire. . .salt is what has been used to preserve things throughout history, so it basically lasts forever. Another note, it’s good to know that vinegar does not actually disinfect. It kills some germs, but not most kinds of germs, so it’s really not an effective way to clean. A lot of people use vinegar to clean, but if you do some quick research, you’ll realize it doesn’t work if you’re really wanting to sanitize. Happy new year, I hope for all the best for you in 2024!

Hello Lou C. Happy New year. Hope this new year brings you all the good things God has planned for you. As someone who was living alone for a long time I would freeze certain things to make them last longer. Some herbs and spices, certain sauces as well. Before freezing I would do some research about the things I’m freezing to make sure the quality doesn’t get spoiled. I also had a food vacuum sealer that I used.Maybe you could try and see if this is a possibility for you. Take care always.

I've had food poisoning as well so now I look carefully at expiration dates. I also only buy what I will use in a few days, so I hardly ever need to throw away food.

Salt is a preservative.. it lasts forever. But also, as a mineral.. it can't really expire.

    Hello!
    Salt does not expire.
In fact, before refrigeration and freezing it was used to preserve food.

I would suggest that at the end of every month that you do a stock take of your foods and make a list of meals to use what you have the following month.

Happy New Year Lou C, I am so relieved that you and your apartment are ok! Sending thoughts and prayers to everyone suffering from the earthquake 🙏! Am so happy to have a new video to watch from one of my favourite content creators, your videos are special filled with inspiration, joy and love. Even your content that is a little more thoughtful, especially on the living alone as I do too but unlike you I still live in the country I was born in and you have the added stress of living alone in a different country and I must say you are doing very well and very gracefully. I was watching some of your old content as your content/videos bring me Joy, Happiness and peace, and one of the videos you Sang in the shower! Wow you have such a beautiful Singing voice I just wanted to let you know that! Please keep up the content it really helps and brings Joy to so many people! Am really looking forward for what 2024 brings for you! You may be alone in person, but in spirit, you are not alone! Peace.

Hello Lou C, best wishes from Germany for you and your family for the new year... The reason for no expiring date on the salt is that salt is a mineral and does not expire... In Germany we have salt mines with salt that is millions of years old. There is no risk of poisoning by salt 😉
