Modern day Is.ra.el/Jerusalem. has no king though. They are a democracy not a theocracy. They have no covenant with God. Therefore are not the same as Biblical Is.ra.el./Jerusalem at all. Don't get too sentimental over a city that God has no part of. The real Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 AD.

MATI and YAIR: thank you both for all your posts. I am now seventy-one, and a past student of Theology. Yet, I only recently discovered that the Holy-of-Holies in the Second Temple (The Great Temple of Herod) contained absolutely NOTHING; because that was felt to be the only way of representing the creator God of Israel. What a wondrous metaphor for the creator of all that is. May that same God take care of His People, today, in accordance with His Covenant.
Under the new covenant, God's people are only those who believe in and follow Jesus Christ. And I didn't even need any theological training to know that. Just reading the Word of God.

It was truly a privilege to visit Israel in 2004 and 2005. It's history is fascinating and what grips me most of all, is, the evidence of places and many of the biblical events that have been uncovered through the careful archeology. As Christians, we owe so much to the Jewish people, especially for their faithful recording and preservation of these historical sites.
