@@morganizedwithkelly45 See I disagree she wipes things down but I never see her wipe but once and she doesn't rinse things. The way she cleans floors is inadequate to me also. The paper towel method.. EWWW If the houses were cleaned regularly this would be fine but she is cleaning really long time dirty and nasty homes that I think require so much more than what she does. Just my opinion. I am kinda OCD so... these houses are really NASTY and requires a deeper cleaning to me but I admire her and all the HARD work that does.

If you have cat urine an enzyme cleaner works, but can weirdly recommend Listerine as a cleaner. I have even used it on grout and soft surfaces. Does a bang up job. If you're doing something like carpet follow-up with soap of course! But wet vac! They probably also need more litter boxes if cats are doing business everywhere.

Super satisfying watching the transformation! 😁As to the cat pee, the best thing you can do is use an enzyme cleaner to break down the organic proteins (which cause the smell) and it neutralised the smell and prevents cats or dogs from going back to the same area and marking it again. The one I use is "Simple Solutions", and it works out a lot cheaper if you buy it in a 1 or 2 litre container. It works on not just urine but faeces, sick and other body fluids. Also what I suggest you do is use some of that solution in your carpet cleaning machine and /or you can dilute it and spray it on areas that are not too bad and use it undiluted for areas that are affected worse. I did both, treated the worst areas and then went over it all again with it through my carpet cleaner as that solved the issue and took no time at all ☺
I'd imagine it would work on the smell of smoke if you mixed some in a basin with hot water and did the same technique of rubbing the walls down. Oh and another thing that might make your life easier and save you from getting a sore neck when cleaning the ceiling or walls is to get a floor squeegee and just drape your microfibre cloth over the squeegee part and it makes it a much faster process and saves you from having unnecessary pain and having to climb up and down a ladder to reach the ceiling. It is also the best way to wash your floors without having to empty a bucket constantly... I just have a bundle of microfibre cloths ready to use and once I am done then I just throw them all in the washing machine. And a floor squeegee is amazing for removing hair off carpets and sofas and so on. I love it so much that I don't use a sweeping brush anymore.
Since I started doing those things it has helped me become faster at cleaning and I can achieve a lot more😁
What I learnt from trying to deal with getting rid of the smell and stopping it from happening again is you shouldn't use any other type of cleaner that is harsh or contains bleach or ammonia as this can make the smell linger and it won't stop pets marking that area again.
I was having an issue with one of my cats doing that before and since I used an enzyme cleaner to treat the areas that were marked then there have been no more issues with him peeing places where he shouldn't be.
💗Love all the hard work you put in to make their life more managed. A cluttered home makes a cluttered mind and adds to stress and depression. I have been there and it took a while for me to get back on my feet but living in a calm and clean environment gives you a chance to begin to process your struggles and take steps in the right direction. Admitting that you need help is the bravest thing someone can do.
This turned into a long comment! haha. Hope it helps though 💕

I’ve read all the comments so far and whatever words are used to define this situation, they’re inadequate. Addiction and depression/anxiety are chicken vs egg beasts. All can lead to extreme myopia/denial/etc where a person can only function on a very small plane. To make generalizations, dear commenters, as to how or why this occurred shows a lack understanding of any mental (or physical btw) illness. They’re not cured by discipline, practicing positive affirmations, or by sent good wishes. What Gabbi is doing is creating a space where healing has a better chance, where their humanity is validated. Good work, Gabbi and thank you. 💜

Just a couple of suggestions for them regarding the kittehs. Tell them to try a different type and brand of cat litter. Some cats just don’t like some litters, especially if they’re very dusty. If they’re using clumping litter, try litter that doesn’t clump. And never let the litter boxes become super dirty. Don’t ever go longer than a week between dumping the entire box and refilling with all new litter. And for the spraying, at night make sure you close all the blinds to the patio doors and windows where there’s something nearby they can stand on. Cats are very nocturnal. And if there are strange cats in their territory, they will go nuts spraying. It’s a way to mark their territory! The other thing they can do is get a cat calming pheromone. It’s dispensed with a type of plug in that heats up and releases the liquid in vapor form into the air. Amazon and Chewy both carry it. And ask them to check the outside of their windows and doors to see if another cat is spraying. If so, I’d hose it off. So they don’t get into a pissing contest-literally! And for you, if you’re still thinking about replacing the blinds, maybe consider the vertical. They aren’t beautiful…but they work. They’d match the sliding glass door blinds, and since they’re thicker, they’re sturdier, and the cats can’t climb them so maybe they’ll withstand the cats better than horizontal blinds? And they’re pretty inexpensive too! Great job cleaning that place!! It needed a woman’s touch 100%! Take care!!

I always buy what I need not always the wants. As I go about my life I jot down things I need and only buy that item. It feels good because I really need it ,no guilt at all. If I’m dressing and it’s cold but I reach into my wardrobe and I don’t have that coat or jumper that I need I jot it down then I go shopping for one. Because I’m not randomly buying clothes all the time I have the money to buy that beautiful coat without worrying about the cost as I’ve saved by not buying random likes all the time.😊

The cats: each cat needs their own litter box as well as at least one extra. They will be stressed if there's only one box, the more dominant cat won't allow the less dominant cat to use it. Also, if they are neutered they should stop spraying. If they are neutered and are still spraying, then they perceive there to be some unresolved territorial issue. It could be between themselves. They could be vying for resources like attention, best nap spots, clean litter box, food etc

First off: when you went through the fridge, I was like “oh no!” I went through a situation with fruit flies before and it is not a pretty site.
Secondly: the way you handled every piece of the house is insane! I completely understand the neck pain, I once had to sanitize part of a restaurant ceiling with bleach, it sucks so bad!
Third: I can’t believe how much dishes had to be cleaned.

If they can get the cats to stop messing where ever they want and use the litter box, you can cover up the smell one the walls/ baseboards with by painting with kilz paint plus get walls white again and works great to cover stains.

For what it's worth in the future if you run into a heavy smoker's house again Trisodium phosphate (commonly referred to as TSP) in personal experience works wonders at pulling the tar and nicotine out of the walls and drastically improving the scent. Years ago I cleaned a shut-in chainsmokers apartment and struggled with bleach and other common household cleaners removing the cigarette stains from the walls TSP was the only thing that actually worked in my situation. Good luck and happy cleaning.

For urine stains you really need an enzyme based cleaner. Nothing else can break down the ammonia smell. The cats will keep marking those spots if they smell a strong bleach, to make sure the spot smells like their territory again. You can bleach it white again but the smell only goes away with enzyme cleaner!

    Hi Gabbi
I just want to tell you if you have a plastic milk jug or gallon water bottle, you can cut pieces of it to fit the feet of the big furniture and it will slide across the floor and not scratch it up. It even helps when moving furniture across carpet.🙂

I had to watch before I subscribed and I really was impressed with your method. I especially love the vacuuming of the bathroom cabinets instead of taking a wet item and stirring that dirt into mud. I just had a question on why you use a brush to clean. I'm ok with cracks and crevices but why use it on flat surfaces instead of a scrubber sponge??

Those horizontal mini blinds are a pain to clean. I usually take them down, put them in the tub and spray with a foam cleaner. Let it sit a bit and spray off and wipe them dry. . The vertical ones probably don't come down like that so cleaning them individually must take a lot of time.

If you aren't used to being around cigarette smoke, how do you prepare or take care of yourself after being in an environment coated with cigarette and nicotine residue? I ask because I've had asthma since infancy, and nicotine smoke (any smoke really) is one of my biggest triggers - not only that, I'm allergic to nicotine and smoke in general. It's so fantastic you are able to go into the homes of anyone who is suffering and help them!
