The scene where Orion becomes Optimus and D-16 becomes Megatron is sooooo good. One forged in revenge and dispair, the other in self sacrifice and hope. One grounded on personal power, the other grounded in a higher spiritual calling. Its fantastic stuff.

When we get to the third act, I was absolutely blown away by the places they went to. The light hearted and fun first two acts (while great) are outshined by that last act. The imagery it conjured up is gonna stay with me forever in both horrifying and phenomenal ways. Brian Tyler’s score peaks here as well, seriously great stuff.

I saw this with my girlfriend yesterday, and she had no prior interest in transformers. During this movie though, she got hooked and was fully invested in the story, and was quietly asking me questions all throughout the film. Honestly a 10/10 in my book.
I also really enjoyed how they incorporated transforming into the combat, and having the characters partially transform to use aspects of they're alt modes to fight.

the one thing im very happy about is Orion and D-16 never had a childish and misunderstood reasons to why they became enemies, the way it happens as the movie goes on is both amazing and tragic.

The one complaint I have for the movie and it is a small one, I admit, but i think it was a strange choice to have Soundwave be part of the High Guard. He's supposed to the one Decepticon Megatron fully trusts and considers a friend so having them barely interact was kind of weird. I think he should have either been part of the main group or at least be one of the miners and then by choice joins Megatron. It would have also made Megatron's turn even more believable because someone he has a personal attachment to agrees with him instead of in the movie where litarelly everyone he has ever cared about turns against him and he still thinks he's right

i dont agree with everything you said there, but the idea is solid. seeing soundwave be the first to truly be on board with megatron's revolution would've been a nice touch. but i can also see them using him as more of a voice of reason/advisor for megatron after seeing how his character seemed to be more methodical and calm than usual

Bryan Tyree Henry's performance as D-16/Megatron is also my favourite part of this movie (and all the other parts are already fantastic). From the soft-spoken, loyal-to-a-fault D-16, to a young Megatron with pain and hate bubbling under the surface, Henry knew just which words in a sentence to emphasize and it hit just right.

I agree with everything you said. This is the best Transformers movie and it was able to balance all of the tones very well. Plus, I'm an adult who has been begging for a more kid-friendly movie that could also be fun for adults. This did it. Loved every minute of it and I did like looking at all the robots' color schemes and realizing who they were.

Honestly, I never thought the rise of Optimus and Megatron could fit in one movie and be satisfying
As a big tf fan, I definitely had written up movies about transformers up here on my noggin
This was probably the most surprising part of the movie for me, could there be more scenes to flesh out their journeys even more? Absolutely, but what we got is still, in my completely biased opinion (I'm a transformers fan, it's hard to be unbiased), brilliant

Defiantly checking this out now, just got to wait for it to release in the UK.
Edit: Just saw the movie, absolutely awesome film. Gorgeous animation, fantastic character work, brilliant action and great performances. One thing I loved as a casual fan of Transformers is how this film serves as a perfect jumping on point for the franchise. I'm praying that this'll end up as a trilogy like the filmmakers have planned out.

I actually loved this movie especially the cgi, the character development, music, and the action. If I have to pick one problem I have was Megatron’s turned yes I understand where he’s coming from but it could have been paced better if it has like 5 or 10 minutes of it. But otherwise it’s good.

the slow build up of d-16 becoming megatron was something marvelous to watch, by the time we hit the third act he is torturing sentinel prime in front of all cybertron, i wasn't just deeply invested because the action was shot so well, but because i loved this incarnation of the character so much, i wanted to see he do exactly what he said he wanted to do against sentinel prime before. It doesn't help he has so many badass moments as cool as the ones in the cybertron games, prime and gen 1. Also my fav bot was sick as hell in screen just like his feel moments in Bumblebee, and god i love soundwave being that cool

I am a 40 year fan... Yes G1... I love how this movie stuck to the two part episode it is based upon as closely as it could given all the content that has been made since. You are correct. I loved "Transformers"(2007) I think we wouldn't be having this dialogue if it wasn't for that. But "The Transformers: The Movie"(1986) I saw that in theatres when I was 12 and the death of "*" (spoiler alert) that was something that I will never forget. So even with as great to competent the Bayverse has been ,1986 was always still my favorite. Until now.

Bumblebee really kept this movie from being a 10/10 for me. He has no real character growth as he started out as comic relief and ended the movie as comic relief. Even when stuff got serious in the third act, he was still goofing around with his antics, and he's also arguably the biggest reason why the first trailer was so controversial because it showed so much of him with his disney/pixar style humour.
Now thankfully the movie wasn't about him so even if it's not 10/10 for me, it's still a solid 8 to 9.

  • @samcandles

I was actually surprised by how mature the movie is. It didn't feel like it was OVERLY toning anything down to have it 100% kid friendly, and I'm honestly not sure what would change if they didn't keep kids in mind at all when making it.

    • @pepita2437
      @pepita2437 2 месяца назад +2

      What real history tho?
Because every single Transformers continuity has it's own different lore/history. (for ex, in G1 Orion was a dock worker, in TFP an archivist, in IDW a cop, in TFA a space bridge maintainance crew member, in Bayverse not even the writers know at this point, since the lore was chnaged so many times. XD)
The story of TF One is an amalgamation of several different continuities. The writers took lore elements/story arcs from almost every existing TF media and created their own story from them.
Megatron's low caste D-16 mining bot origin is from the IDW continuity, just like the 'class/caste' sistem. Orion being a low class manual labourer is form G1, cogless bots being unable to transform during the rule of the Quintessons is form G1 too, just like the Quintessons themselves. Sentinel Prime is reminiscent of his TFA version (gold/blue, huge chin) not to mention his personality. Starscream's TF One backstory was influenced by his Aligned continuity one.
Orion being a history nerd, spending his time in the archives trying to figure out what is wrong with Cybertron, and how to fix it is from TFP. Sntinel holding the title of Prime whithout having the Matrix (being a false Prime) is form the Aligned continuity too.
Megatron barging in and taking Starscream's army with force is from the War for Cybertron games/Aligned continuity.
Tf One actually does something that nt a lots modern of reboots do. It actually respects the Transformers lore, and build from it.

The only thing I’d have to complain about it’s Chris Hemsworth as Optimus. Like I wish they used for his turn into Optimus or after receiving the matrix he switches to Peter Cullens voice. It’s just a shame that Peter Cullen who’s been asking for a Optimus origin movie for years but he’s not even given a cameo in this movie.

I was really skeptical about this one. I really disliked the trailers, but I finally had the chance to see it and I was blown away!🤯 Really awesome film. It is too bad the first trailer was so bland. 😖
The one complaint I have is that I wish there was more of a music cue for when Megatron lost it after learing of the betrayal of Sentinal. We definitely see it happen, but a slightly better music cue would help us feel it a little more.

  • @austingilles6263

I was amazed by how much I enjoy Transformers One. I genuinely had no interest in it since the first two trailers didn’t do a terrific job selling me on the film. But I’m glad my cynicism was wrong because I think the movie is really really good.
I do have my critiques, as with everything, but the biggest issue I have is near the end with Optimus when he says “The line between friend and enemy yadayada and once it’s crossed there’s no going back” that feels so ultra finite and hopeless, something very antithetical to how the character was written and portrayed. It’s more inline with the start Black/White world of the Bayverse. But whereas in Bayverse the world building and history of the war has been established and we’re introduced to it all near the tail-end of the conflict and we know there’s no mutually beneficial end to the conflict because of how monstrously evil the Decepticons are, here it just feels off. The war hasn’t even begun, there hasn’t been anything but a disagreement between Megs and Optimus, and yet Prime immediately labels his life long friend his enemy. What happened to the Prime who always held hope that he could convince the Decepticons to change? That Megatron and Prime could rejoin and find peace together? I didn’t like that very much

It was fantastic. My only nitpick were Orion's and Meg's origins. They could've easily throw that in on Orion's flashback and stated that Meg's was a gladiator then got demoted to miner and so as Orion being a data clerk and also got dmeoted to a miner. Although, they can easily retconned those origins in the sequel, and since Sentinel plucked out their cogs, could state that D-16 was a Gladiator and Sentinel saw this as a threat to him and deleted D-16's memories and took his cog then sent him to be a miner. Same with Orion, curious as he is, Sentinel saw this to prevent him from finding out the truth, did the same and send him to be a miner.

    @timprimetal5380 2 месяца назад

5:25 My one actual criticism of this film is this moment. I feel like D-16's shift was way too sudden. Like don't get me wrong, the motivation is all there... his one living hero was a fraud and happens to have killed his one dead hero, and all the toiling in the mines his entire life was a lie, and his inability to transform wasn't a birth defect but something done to him by Sentinel. That's a lot of motivation all at once. The heel turn is believable, it's just... it feels like he barely has a violent bone in his body and then at the first hint of a change in character he's immediately at "I want him run through the streets, strung up, and killed." It's just so quick.
IDW did it where Megatron's problems with the political structure of the planet only manifests as writings until he's beaten up in prison and then accidentally goes too far in a riot, taking his first life, and then developing a thirst for killing that overwhelms his original political goals. I love that arc. Maybe I was just hoping for something nuanced like that, or maybe I just have to sit with this some more. It just feels so sudden to me, especially followed by the icy cold "I got it" scene with Orion.
Aside from that and a handful of extremely minor nitpicks, no notes. Brilliantly done, the acting from everyone was incredible, the little details that showed the crew knew the franchise inside and out (not just the G1 characters in the backgrounds, but even things like Primus being portrayed like he was in Transformers Cybertron, and how Pax starts off as an industrial worker like in G1 but our first scene introduces him going into the archives as a nod to his Aligned counterpart)... it's fantastic.

      I agree.
I wished they didn't left out Megatron's glaiator origins.
I think that is story element which greatly explains why he is the way he is, why he uses violence to solve most of his problems.

I think you listed out exactly why I had no issue with it. D-16's entire worldview is completely shattered by all of those reveals. Someone he idolized is a villain? That person killed his hero? He stole everyone's t-cog to force them into submission to deliver Energon to the Quintessons?
I think it just breaks his brain. And you do get a scene of him rationalizing it, taking it incredibly personally in a "he lied to my face" kind of way. And it just manifested in nothing but anger and rage towards Sentinel, and broke his trust in anyone in any kind of leadership position.
I didn't think it was rushed or sudden at all, it all made perfect sense to me in the moment

@@ThePrimeTheater Entirely fair! Yeah, like I said, the motivation for the character heel turn is all there, which I applaud the movie for. And you bring up a good point, it was all revealed to him all at once.
I think this is one of those things where it struck me as weirdly abrupt on first viewing but I just have to sit with it.

1:49 this is the movie you always wanted?! Wtf I've seen a lot of your videos man and agree with almost everything but this one is not right. This movie was terrible and spit in the face of people that care about these characters. I thought you were one of those people but I was wrong. Did they pay you or something? This movie is fucking terrible
