Very nice interview. As a TD for 5 years (Oriental DreamWorks, Pearl Studio), I can relate to Paul's story and I love my job as a TD. As I say, TD = Totally Doable :)
It's amazing hearing you two talk about your work. It's very reassuring that I am working my way in a direction that I will have a lot of fun with. I am currently studying animation in the 3rd BA year (with my personal goal to work as a TD one day).
Thanks Alexander! Nice interesting topic. Great that you're opening it to the audience. I think it's a giant field for exploration. Especially it would be nice to know more about how the pipelines are built in different studios with different scale. What tools do they usually use for managing artists (shotgun, ftrack) what do they use for version control, for apps connection and data exchange, for output files storage and management, for synchronization, etc. How many technical artists you need for proper production support and so on. One advise, try to use less "like" "kinda" "you know" 😊.
You know, Sergey, I don't think any video or interview can answer this specific questions since they are kinda irrelevant as Paul remarked. You have what you have, use what is there and go a way that someone decided probably before you were part. It is more about what to expect and what skill or mentality to practice.
@@alexanderrichtertd Thanks for the reply :) I know that there can't be a single proper pipeline. It's just interesting to see the different approaches or solutions people find for non-standard workflows, it could give you ideas about maybe how to make your life easier, just for inspiration.
Thank you Alexander. I always have an issue to explain what is my job all the time. 😅😅😅. You two make it so crystal clear what it is and how we work with others. I'm waiting for your next videos. 😉😉
Great to hear! :) Yeah I know how you feel. One of the reasons I did this episode with Paul is to give others a better inside into this position ... Now we can just send a link. ;)
Leave a comment and let me know what you think about the first episode.

Haha. Nice one. Totally Doable!
As someone that works in VFX but is trying to break into the TD side of things, this was extremely insightful.
