I used to be merely annoyed by the self indulgence associated with this “deadly sin” of pride month. But I have felt more threatened by it in recent years. We were encouraged to be simply “tolerant” of LGBT in the past. However, this is NOT a movement of tolerance. Far from it. The corporate culture and remarkable public/private funding/promotion is both evangelical and vitriolic. Therefore, as with any religion bent on doing others harm must be actively denounced and resisted. Now, we have promising boycotts underway that offer an Avenue of public resistance. Annheuser Busch and Target are actively challenging mainstream values. Now, the L.A. Dodgers are unapologetically defaming Christianity with their blasphemous support of the Sisters of Self Indulgence. We are at a point where, if we do not come together as believers/sympathizers of all faiths, we should come to expect wholesale destruction of society.

Excellent conversation! Our church in El Salvador probably has a larger percentage of people of other ethnic groups than any in the country, even though most of us are quite conservative. A person who is gay or even a person who has had a sex change would not be singled out or ostracized. One of our elders is/was from Uganda, a former child soldier, married to a woman from Canada. He has preached and we have great respect for him and his wife. One of our worship team last year was from Ghana. His wife, from Trinidad and Tobago, served in Sunday School as Christ’s handmaiden and was a witness to her husband’s devotion to God. Their children were models of good behavior, even during covid, except for the adorable toddler, of course. The problem is the indoctrination of our children and youth, I think. My marriage is not God’s best but most in our church espouse values centered around family and faith more than almost anything else. Leaders are held to a very high standard I don’t meet, either, but I know of only one man who was eventually asked not to return. He had been harassing the teenage daughter of one of the elders on line. Even then, the pastor was discreet and few people knew what had happened. (Matthew 18:15)

Love it when Christians start talking about ideology with furrowed brows. "Not just a symbol, but there's an ideology behind it as well" said without any irony. The LGBT community were murdered by Christians throughout history, because they believe that "God said its ok". LGBT people have died for the right to be treated with the same rights and humanity as anyone else and pride is a symbol now not just of the winning of that freedom, but a symbol of the secular moral philosophy that every human being has equal rights. I wonder if these two speakers understand the irony of sitting and equating the pride movement to religion, on a channel which openly promotes religion. It would be like me thanking god that people like this channel don't hold the reigns of power any more. Stay in your churches.

It's not because it's becoming impossible to refuse the ideology of LGBT that it's automatically a religion. The right to not be killed is I think accepted by everyone in Europe and asking for murder is illegal. It's not religion even though. Refusing the right to be homosexual is becoming the same. The reason there is such a massive display every where is because the shift was so sudden. Only seventy years ago, Alan Turing (acknowledged as war hero by the queen, but first and foremost a pioneer of computational science) was condemned to chemical castration (as an chosen alternative to prison) because of his homosexuality. The fact that such an act would now be almost consensually disapproved, only 70 years later, and that homosexual people are regularly killed by law in other contries in the world is the reason so many corporation regularly show support (and the fact that around 5% of the world population is homosexual, although it is extremely hard to estimate globally, for obvious reasons). That doesn't mean it's becoming a religion.

So, if I was to accept that it has become a 'religion' (which I do not, but for the sake of philosophical charity, I will allow it), how would this be problematic for a christian organisation to witness? Emancipation movements can find themselves lost in a media and corporate hoopla; and if one is involved (as I am, as a trans woman) in the movement itself, one may find themselves and their colleagues having great reservations as to whether that saturation is counterproductive. Do not imagine the queer community does not have it's own concerns about the hype that surrounds us; and how our core concerns (health access, public violence, employment inequities, etc) get lost in a tsunami of corporate PR. A religion? If only it was; because church has often effectively challenged state on it's lack of care, because of the defference still afforded the church. I came to this page as a result of admiring Atkinson's speech about free speech on your channel; so I can see the intent here is to have an open discursive forum. I strongly disagree with much of what the Reverend has to say but I have no ill feeling here; just wished to present a counterpoint.

Whats really discouraging to me is that many churches either dont or wont talk about these issues. They talk about safe issues Prayer, Study, family etc. But these pastors will not Shepard the Congregation, because Laws are being made now that makes Christianity into a hateful religion. Intolerant and uses an ancient book, that promotes an unloving message. But the Gospel is intolerant. God hates Sin in whatever form. Jesus paid the price for Sin. But dont be fooled, the sinner not the sin will be sent to a real place of torment and suffering, Why? Because God is Holy . Hes justice demands it. Thats why we need Jesus. To Save us from God. I wish Christians would read there Bible and Live.

This is a good analysis by Matthew, and it is so obvious that the Bible gives us the answers. The problem of 'self' is nothing new, but when it gets out of the bottle as it has in our days, we are reminded that, "In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes." (Judges 21:25) and so we enter a period of social chaos in which there is much damage done. Remember Gibeah. 1 John 2:15 to 17 encourages us to overcome, and "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever." Yet, we have good news. Jesus saves sinners. I will pass the link to others. Thank you Matthew...

It is a cause against violence and oppression, christian views are fine, but some people take it too far and actively fight against my existence.
that being said, rainbow capitalism is gay (heh). they use the rainbow flag to seem accepting simply to draw more customers, they do not give one heck about us gays. I think the best way to understand the present culture is to look back at the past.
The example you gave of Alan Turing is a great one. Alan Turing was a fantastic man, who had so much to offer the world.... but he was born with homosexual desires. In the 1940/1950s homosexuals faced extreme persecution, so extreme that it often ended up in death. As was the unfortunate case of Alan Turing.
Homosexual people have been persecuted for 1000s of years, and in the present day. There are still countries in the modern world that punish homosexuality by DEATH.
This is extreme persecution, that only in the last 20 years has started to fade in the western world. This is why the LGBT movement is massive, because these likeminded people (homosexuals) faced millennia of unjust persecution and they are finally able to express themselves, so they are. Now I don't really care about what your religious perspective is, I am a believer in freedom of speech and thought and you are justified to think and belive whatever you desire, but what you need to understand is that for many people homosexuality is not a choice, it is a part of that persons identity. We should never ever suppress people, for being the person they were born to be.
I agree with you on many points, the issues surrounding children are very concerning, but from a purely adult perspective I think the most fair and rational thing to do, is to just let people be happy, if that happiness is not at the detriment of others. I have no problem with people being gay, I don't see why that should be the case in anyway.
The problem with religion, is you do not live in the rational world. Your perspective is different from reality. As I said, you have the right to practice your religion, but I don't think anyone thinking out side the bounds of reality should be able to argue against things that are REAL problems. Just makes you seem foolish to most modern rational people.

This is well put, and I thank you for that. I am also an advocate of free speech, I believe everyone should be able to believe what they want. But that is not going to deter me from the debate.
I am gay myself. It is not something I chose. I do not feel indoctrinated. I feel happy that I have a loving family and friends who accept me for who I am. I also appreciate that this means I am lucky, because it is still a crime in many countries and faiths, and something people are murdered over.
If we are all made in the likeness and image of God, and God loves us all equally, how can this not be a blatant violation of everything Christianity stands for?
I agree there are issues surrounding the implementation of some laws and concepts, but the issue is not pride. I am a Christian (unless you believe my homosexuality prevents me from being), and I believe instead of condemning the concept of pride, it would be far more just and truly Christian to understand the real issue, embrace the ever-growing support, and advocate for change where it really matters.

There was a time, during the Roman Empire, when being Christian was considered immoral because Christians refused to pay taxes and didn't want to join the army. Because, you know, the Golden Rule of Jesus, which probably condenses everything the Gospel can teach in just one phrase. And also they, the early Christians, had rituals, dogmas, calendar and even a language... so what?
And now these so called "Christians" now thinking of doing the same things that Romans did to them for centuries?
Thank God not every Christian has the same opinions as these two individuals, actually the majority has accepted the fact that it is way more damaging for everybody as a society not to recognize equal rights to everybody regardless of sexual orientation, which in any case should be part of the constitution.
So what? I don't think this resistance to change is any way related with religious beliefs. This is just mere resistance to change.
Probably this same people about 30 years ago were saying the same things about men and women of african descent because you know, things change and they don't want it to be.
Change is difficult, change makes you challenge your inner self. But God doesn't want you to refuse change.
    let's recall Ephesians 4:22-24 :
"You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."

After watching this video, however, it seems very clear that intelligent, open-minded people working against the religious right have good reason to be defensive.
These two men are completely captured by organized religion and are beyond hearing any real discussion of the issues. They are both terrified of the possibility that young people might hear any alternative to the religiosity these men are pushing. Both of these men admit that they are haunted by impulses to do things that God forbids. They are projecting their own guilt and anger onto others, (and making money while doing so).
I hope some of the more clear-headed watchers will reject this kind of heavy-handed manipulation and look elsewhere for information. Our children are facing difficult times. We should support them. We should not restrict our children from hearing alternative viewpoints. They deserve that level of trust.

Very interesting discussion. It's good to remember gay activists are behind promoting the Gay Movement. Yes, we live in a very Me Me Me society. However, there are those in the gay community who just wish to get on with their lives in a quiet and peaceable way as they have done for years. Lesbians especially have been living together as gentle older ladies and nothing is even suggested. Quite rightly. Much will be/have been for company. It's not all about sex you know!
There will be many gay Christians in heaven and I'm really looking forward to all of us living together! Not sure you are but we'll all be changed:) A few shocks in store for all who believe they've got the truth. It's not as straightforward as you seem to think it is.
I couldn't begin to argue with you. You have it all tied up so neatly you would run rings around me but I have personal experience and also have done much reading and research.
I've come to a settled place before God and trust Him with this. If 'noted' theologians can't agree it shows this is not as straightforward as some would suggest.
What a messed up screwed world we live in. God help us all.

Christianity has done and will do more harm to society than pride ever will.
This is homophobia and transphobia presented in a polite conversation.
If we needed an example of why we have and still need Pride then this is one of the best examples.
Lots of Love from a gay atheist 😘

Even Google has a definition of religion as a worship of supernatural power or powers, especially a god or gods.
LGBT people obviously don't worship something like that, unless they are religious, which that there should make the answer quite clear.

I made the same comment on another vid. I have no issues with LGB pride events etc. I do have issues with the rest of the letters that have hijacked those three letters to advance their own agenda. LGB is all about attraction, L's are physically attracted to women, G's are physically attracted to men, and B's are physically attracted to both sexes. The rest of those letters have absolutely nothing to do with attraction, instead these letters are all about how these people see themselves. We really need to start seeing the difference between these two groups of people instead of painting them both with as the same brush.
