Just yesterday, we had five chicks leave the nest that the parents set up in our messy shed. The parents were helping the chicks get to some nearby trees. It was so cool to watch and listen to their different calls! One chick wasn't quite ready to fly and had trouble getting out before dark so I put the nest in a box and put the bird in the nest (using gloves) and it slept safely over night. In the morning, as soon as I went outside, the parents were on my porch ready to help their chick. They got it to follow them on the ground and they would find bugs and feed it. Eventually, the rest of the chicks came over and the whole family of wrens went along hunting for food. The little chick was already getting stronger and getting close to flying. Success!

One day I heard a beautiful song with so many changes and tracked it down. I was in the house and found a little Carolina wren sitting on a table I had by my bedroom window, which was open. It stopped for a few seconds when it saw me looking and then continued singing. I lay on the bed and listened to his amazing song for a long time and then his mate actually came up to him and they flew off. We were over the road truckers at the time. They lived in our carport for several years until we came home and I found part of his body. He had given his life to defend a fallen young. I cried.

I hear ya! It's amazing to see the culprit behind such a loud voice. Too funny about your cat upsetting them. I think Carolina Wrens have the biggest personality of all the small birds and they really don't care how little they are, haha! With the scolding calls it could be the female as well. The only calls the females don't make are the Cheer calls and they don't sing the tea kettle song. I hope that helps :) Have a wonderful evening.

I had been telling my young aduIt son about them, he had gotten me a small bird house for mother's day and wrens claimed it. I was telling him how they scold me when I go outside.
So one day I heard one outside and got a message from him. He was working on the car and one came right up to him a few feet away and sat there giving him the business 😂 He said I think I just met your birds mom, the ones from the bird house he got for them. 😅

I just love wrens. We've had them nest in our yard several times. I find they are opportunistic nesters. Once, a house wren made a nest in a hanging planter. Once I discovered this, I was very careful in watering the plant. The way I found out was while I was watering with a milk jug, the mom ended up in the jug...which startled me and I threw the jug into the yard.....followed by the thought of how I was going to raise tiny wrens! Mom was fine and after the babies fledged, I removed the nest only to discover that the mom had added a piece of plastic to the bottom of the nest!

I'm pretty sure I've thought I was hearing cardinals before, too, when I'd hear that loud, beautiful song, but try as I might, I just couldn't spot that splash of bright red. Now I know why.

What a great video! The Carolina Wren just might be my favorite bird. They just have so much personality! I've had the same family of Carolina Wrens nesting in my garage (3 door garage, with the door always open because it's busted) for over 20 years now. What's so funny to me is that they always pick a different place to nest in. One year it was an old metal mailbox, that was just laying there, discarded in a corner. Another year they nested in my grandparents old freezer, because the door was left open. They even nested in my Dad's old baseball glove from the 1950's. Great video, Lesley! BirdsWalkingDown takes the absolute BEST footage of birds on youtube, hands down, so thank you too, sir!

Years ago my rather young little brother heard one of these singing what sounded like his name and exclaimed "It's saying Jeremy!"
He passed away a couple years ago, as a strong young man of 24. The following spring a pair of his childhood 'Jeremy Birds' nested in a flower pot on my parents' front porch, and another pair nested in my outdoor workshop.

I'm sorry for the loss of your brother. What a beautiful message to you and your parents from the wrens. ❤ I have also always thought they were saying "Jeremy." :)

Love those little birds. There's a pile of them here all the time. One pair made a nest under the top of my old chicken coop and raised a clutch while I was building my second coop. Was afraid they might abandon the nest since I was working only a few feet away everyday. But they stuck it out and brought the babies off the nest about the same time I finished the new build. Couple of days later they found their way into my black soldier fly bin. ChaChing! lol They finished feeding out the babies with my bugs and now all five of them are in and out of the bin all day long. They sometimes come by when I'm feeding the bin and sit on the side frame waiting for me to finish so they can get to their tasty bugs. lol
I harvest about a half gallon of larva out of the bin every day for my birds. Those little guys hardly scratch the surface of the brazillion bugs in there. Nights will cool off soon though and they'll have to go on the hunt again. They're very good at that though. Kept seeing them carrying green inch worms to their babies and was watching them one day. They were hopping around searching under poison oak leaves and finding those little worms. Crafty little things they are.

Woke my bird dog up watching this, oops! But learned a lot about a bird I didn't know much about, so thank you! We have House Wrens here in the summer, but if I'm being honest, they kinda annoy the heck out of me with their constant, all day long, shrill "singing" I guess it's called, lol! Very much appreciated the name of the calls in the upper right hand corner, so helpful. Also loved the "teapot" and "loading" graphics... too funny! 🤣
