QOTD: Why do you think RUclips Rewind has so many dislikes?
Obviously no pewdiepie and MrBeast
Because it doesn’t address what’s actually going on in the RUclips community and it has an overtly political message right in the middle of it.
They sacrificed real connections with their RUclips audience by giving us what really made RUclips great this year, for their political correct nonsense.

If RUclips were to put Tseries and Pewdiepie is would just mean more support towards Pewdiepie.. I don’t support Tseries and I don’t really want a corporation to dominate either however Pewdiepie had some offensive content that was terrible. What went wrong. RUclips yet again showed they don’t understand the trends on their own platform. They showed people who were relevant 3-5 years ago. No one knew who 90% of the people were. Rewind has turned into a political statement. Take it back to its roots next year. The dislikes are warranted.

Well to be fair they tried to get in youtubers from many different countries who might not be well known worldwide but certainly have a lot of followers. But overall you are right. Lots of things missing. RUclips Rewind should be a proper Year review including all big things/controversies that were interesting this year. Instead they decided to do a cringy video with nothing really in it. 99% of the time i had no idea whats going and what the point of the whole thing is.

Just watch it, by current statistics if people watch it, they will dislike it so it makes sense to introduce more people to dislike it.
I don't think it has ads, except youtube patting itself on the back and links to bunch of youtubers who don't really matter.
Just click on it and dislike, you don't need to watch any of the ads or the video since you can instantly pause, dislike and go back

People dont dislike it because they are "haters". People dislike it because it's bad. Let's look at thia year's rewind: starts and ends with will smith, which last time I checked wasnt a youtuber, has an open spot for talk show hosts (also 2017) and has ninja be a big part of the start, even though he is not a youtuber. It also has a full minute or 2 about people talking about supporting things like mental health, which ironicly, mental health videos get demonitized all the time. But the biggest problem is not featuring actual events from this year, the biggest being youtube's own biggest creator, Pewdiepie vs T series. The fact that Jaiden had to sneak in his chair to even have a refernce of him is outrageous. It, 2017 and 2016 (and maybe 2015, im not sure) were all heavily disliked because they did not feature many of the big events of the year, and the ones they do feature are either not that big or makes youtube looks good or at least does not affect them. If they started making rewinds which actually represent the year, they will not get disliked, its funny that Jaiden's 3 seconds animation was more 2018 than the whole rewind. Oh and one more thing: it does not help that they started removing dislikes :)
2016's dislikes were mainly out of a protest because of RUclips's adpocalypse. Your point still stands

in will smith's defense, from the videos of his that I've seen, he seems to genuinely want to get a look into what vloggers do. sure, he has editors and will always been known as an actor/celebrity first, but he seems to be genuinely trying and it lets us see him as an everyday guy with a camera, rather than this huge celebrity. so imo I'm glad that they included him, it was one of the VERY few parts of rewind I liked

It's pretty simple. They try to avoid all controversy, but by doing that they have to exclude 90% of the content on RUclips. This leaves the viewers unsatisfied.
Also, the grudging hate against RUclips has been growing as they keep restricting their creators, making the content on RUclips less and less inventive as creators are often afraid to try new things.
RUclips tried to show how inclusive they are in this rewind, but everyone who has actually been following what's happening on RUclips knows this is just a way for them to cover up all their controversies.
All in all, the feeling I got after watching RUclips rewind 2018 was "what is this?" I barely knew anyone, and the references they made was mostly to content I don't care about at all. This apparently is how most of RUclips felt too.
I support your opinion. I watched three times that video and I didn't feel anything. After this, RUclips must change the concept for t he next Rewind.

Yeah, I get why they left out alot of youtubers even though I liked them still. Just because some things are causing actual real political tension in some places, where it shouldn't be. It touches on sensitivities from those things

The video sucked. Why the actual hell would they put baby shark? And come on, Yodelling Kid is more irrelevant than LeafyIsHere (just saying).
They also used a BTS song without crediting them, whilst the 'Kiki do you love me' thing had the animators look cringy as hell. No offense Domics and Odd1IsOut.

I can agree in every point except two:
1. I think Jaiden did the chair meme without telling anybody so there is at least SOMEKIND of Pewdiepie in this video.

It wasn't made for the viewers. It was made fir advertisers and corporations. They ignored much of the year's important events, such as the boxing matches, the Shane Dawson docs, and the Pewdiepie vs. T-Series battle. They pushed their "core values" and diversity that it became stifling. It's not like I don't agree with them, it's just that it went on forever. Instead of highlighting creators like Markiplier and Jacksepticeye who pushed for positivity, they went for clickbait, controversy, and money. Honestly, this was only to be expected, as when the platform got big enough to make money off of, the corporations moved in to corrupt it.

This one was by far the worst rewind ever.
Ugandan knuckles was still going strong till march despite people claiming it's a dead meme so it's fair to say that it deserves a spot, this is america was such a hit that it started a trend of people making their own version for their country, mr beast was a big name this year so he also deserves a spot.

If they included Ugandan Knuckles the Rewind would be even more criticized. Ugandan Knuckles is an anti-meme at this point. I would say to feature the most impactful creators, Pewds, T-Series, and Mr. Beast should have definitely been there. But RUclips had to make a mockery of itself.

Matrix Programmer, it was a popular meme, no longer is. If I were to go to a meme chat room at this moment and starting saying Ugandan knuckles references, I would either be kicked or muted. David S Ah, glad you asked. The rewind was too stuffed like youtube tried to put everything together making it hard to watch, youtube also included the normie youtubers which most people dont know. The existence of ninja also caused a bit of chaos since he is a twitch streamer and only post twitch clips on youtube. The kpop and fortnite craze that they emphasize is also pretty cringe which made people hate it even more, I reccommend you watching this video for more-

The music that they chose for the video IMO was random, they should've picked songs that were famous but went together. Like "This is America" and "God's Plan"
I wasn't surprised Keke got in, but "Happier", Cardi B's song(forgot name sorry), "High Hopes" and that Kpop song (I don't know all the names sorry) seemed like such a random bunch. They may have been at the top of the charts for a while but not as long as Gambino and Drake.

Their choice of songs was pretty justifiable, though their mix was terrible.
Idol- (the K-pop one)- Set records this year on RUclips and K pop has exploded in general this year.
Cardi B- This was her year. She came out of nowhere and appeared on everything as a guest rapper to dethrone Nicki Minaj.
High Hopes--was a suprise for me I'll grant you that.
Happier- took off because, like Cardi B, this was Marshmallows year. And that really sad video got alot of views. Plus Bastille is great.
There is no way "this is America" would be used given its imagery that RUclips doesn't want to show, it's also only about America....
I think the song they used was the only good thing except they made idol (kpop song) look like a joke they had Asian creator there they could have used them but they made it look like a whole joke that to me it was disrespectful

Their are so many reasons why this flopped:
Celebrities, 90% fortnite themed, 80% people noone knows, that stupid political speech in the middle, only one or two good memes, handpicking comments to be featured, Kpop, mukbang, asmr, bad music, and lying about giving everyone what they want (and I think this is the biggest reason)

Honestly I feel like it’s because a lot of individual creators are starting to feel thrown under the bus by youtube. It’s hard to get anywhere amazing on youtube right now. Especially since youtube is more worried about their Hollywood/big company creators. As an individual creator with not enough subscribers to even be monetized youtube makes it hard to be seen even if you rank well in tags.

The videos dislike gain has been so quick that if Justin Bieber Baby, the most disliked video of all time, had been consistently gaining dislikes at that rate, it would have more dislikes than the world population. But the number of dislikes that video has is less than 0.15% of the world population.
Of course, the dislike growth of RUclips Rewind 2018 will slow down pretty soon as it's pretty much impossible to maintain high growth rates of anything.

I know us the ARMY (BTS Fandom) are angry because they used their song 'Idol' without even giving credit to them. Also, RUclips has deleted views off of BTS videos and ones that would have beaten records so us ARMY are pretty mad about it. We are glad K-Pop is getting some recongition but Youtude isn't giving the credit where it is needed.

This is simply because people are unhappy with the platform. Persobally i think their "strategy" with the invitation only was smart. They knew they were foing to be bombarded with negative comments specially about pewd and tseries, so, by having the invited viewers commenting on it, their fans would more likely thumbs up their comments which in turn would make said comments be in top, in order to disguise the negative one. Because RUclips doesn't want to be called out for for deleting negative comments
I like how the thumbnail of this vid gets updated everyday ~
Look back at earlier years and check who/what they featured VS who/what was popular that year on RUclips, then check the newer ones and check for that number

They forgot Thanos,Stan Lee,Stefan Karl,and pyrocynical. RUclips is just so cruel! RUclips will just dig its own grave along with the SJW’s and liberals who brought the wrong image to RUclips. My favorite rewinds are the 2012,2013,and 2017. I’m saddened at the downfall of RUclips’s relevance and creativity. When I first started using RUclips back in 2009-2011ish I loved seeing all of the creativity and now SJW’s are destroying creativity on this site and it’s integrity! All gamers and pewds rise!

WolfDogFilms 2017 was bad too, and y’all hated it even more than this year, i ain’t forget. best ones were 2015 and 2014. 2012/2013 i was 9 or 10 so i wasn’t really emerged in the memes or youtube culture

What would make the rewind better is if theres EVERY popular , gaming, science, biologist, asmr , mukbang, vlog, animations, space, art,drawing,tourist,story teller, clans, for clans its faze and optic and others,singers,rappers,hip hop,jazz,and other type of songs.

Well since youtube rewind was shite, any youtubers want to support each other?
I think the biggest problem with this year's rewind (excluding missing a lot of events that happened and didn't make it into the video) is that it's just all over the place. I liked watching previous ones because of the music remixes and montage, scenes were smoothly blended with each other and it just looked good in overall. This year random people just appear in random places, random music plays occasionally, it literally looks like a teenage director wannabe took the camera for the first time. I know I say "random" a lot, but this whole vid was completely random and wild, and not in a good meaning. It's very clear for me they didn't even have any good idea to begin with.
And this awful forced message. I know they had RUclips had good intentions trying to say that people who help various charities and those who support creators are important, but was it really needed? Don't we know that already? Don't youtubers say that in many of their videos, when no one is writing these "i'm thankful" lines for them?
Well, I just hope that seeing how much criticism the rewind got, RUclips will learn on their mistakes and create better video next year.
QOTD answer: It's because there's ALOT Fortnite haters (for example: me) and like half of the video was about fortnite. Also it's because of the demonetized content creators who are showing off their anger. That's just my opinion, no hate, please.

RUclips rewind got so many dislikes because it doesn't represent the community RUclips actually is but rather the image RUclips wants it to have. RUclips wants it to be Hollywood/T.V. and a large chunk of the actual RUclips creators/audience do not want it that way. Will Smith is NOT a RUclipsr lol. Anyone who is up to date on the community knows that the year was actually Logan Paul Suicide Forest (understandable why that didn't make it), Tanacon, Logan Paul vs. KSI, PewDiePie vs. T-Series, Shane Dawson documentary on Jake Paul. I think RUclips is thinking more about appealing to advertisers than embracing its user base, which unfortunately isn't always T.V. friendly.
I dont like the youtube rewind 2018 cuz they didn't show what was trending on youtube... They only show the one that is years ago! What about the Pewdiepie vs T-series?! They could have created a sub count between Pewdiepie vs T-series with the people who vote them! Instead they make cringy old things... This is why i dislike the video!

I don't like to complain but I will showcase all I felt went wrong. Too much talking, Rewind isn't for that, felt like some sketch. There wasn't enough music and It wasn't really a remix, each one sounded by itself. Many trends were left out, many people were left out, there was no creativity after the Battle Bus thing, it was just saying this and oh the reference, it was way more entertaining searching for them. Also, the campfire had some irrelevant youtubers. The "comment setion" part was really unnecesary, Rewind is supposedly just that, giving what "they want" and here they just threw it on your face. Really slow-paced, it's supposed to be a celebration of the year. Animators mixed with people felt really out of place. The political/emotional message was really bad executed and out of place, it's not for the rewind. Isn't youtube affiliated with Google?? Because "Year in Search" mostly covers the tributes and all of the emotional messages in a really nice way. Also, no tribute to death people, in 2016 they did nice nods without making them feel out of place, here they just forgot.
