In which one button gets four stylish buddies, via forward and reverse engineering. Thanks to my patrons for their continued support. More video: diode.zone/acc...
Depends i guess. The short circuit buttons will overwrite the lowpass buttons. You could maybe dissern both lowpass buttons getting pressed from an individual button press but in the end it does not matter too much in this application
it mostly acts like it ignores all buttons except the leftmost, but there might be a quirk or two in it.. i didn't really intend for it to handle edge cases like this in any particular way.
As a lifelong coder and electronics nerd, I'm super impressed. As a woodworker, I'm annoyed at how nice the finish on the case is right off the tool. Beautiful work!
This video is the exact opposite of "hey guys, "! It hit me with such immediacy that I felt a little anxious, as if I'm not paying enough attention. And that's a good thing!
This is seriously so inspiring. As someone who's teaching myself electronics and programming I'm incredibly jealous of your knowledge. To be able to just pick up a device and reverse engineer it to the point of being able to modify it to your liking seems like an impossible task to me and yet you make it look so easy. Hope you continue to post your work, I'm excited to see what you do next
I really appreciate your reverse engineering work here. I was able to take the information you gathered and modify my own usb switch, I added an esp8266 to mine and host a simple web server so that I can swap to different machines without buttons. I also got rid of the auto switch functionality.
This neardy video made me click subscribe! It's so cool that people put up videos like these, a chance for everyone to learn new stuff every day. Even without having checked I know that you probably have alot of videos that will come in use in the future! :)
I just want to say how humbled I am by your knowledge and skill. There is so much expertise being shown in so many disciplines of this 'little' project that, even though I have had the word 'engineer' in my job title for more than 20 years... it feels kind of like an example of verbal irony at this point. I look forward to your content going forward. If any of it is simple enough for me to grok, you might teach this old dog some new tricks.
I have no idea why youtube thought I would want to see this, but I must admit that I'm intrigued and this is very much something that I'd like to learn.
@@confusingdalek709 (cool name, btw ^^) Man, I can't put my finger on what it reminds me of. I feel like I've heard stuff from 3epkano, Amiina and other groups that leaned more into the atmospheric side of things, but they're not usually that ambient on average. Thank you for recommending (well, mentioning) Boards of Canada, I'm listening to them as we speak :)
Oh! It's original music by Scanlime, she made it specifically for this video! It's on her Extra Content channel on diode zone. I'm posting the link separately, in case it gets auto-filtered by RUclips, so you'd at least have this comment :) She called it simply "Four Buttons OST"
Bummer there's no STM8 support in Ghidra, it's a great tool that has really made my RE skills seem more impressive 😄. Cool hack and glad to see a new video from you! I totally do not understand the circuit Black Magic you worked for the switches and LED s... Nice desktop CNC! It's been a while since I've watched one of your streams, but I've learned a ton from you and your community.
Assuming the keyboard is plugged into the switch, would it be possible to connect through the keyboard's built-in USB hub to obviate the need for the black cable?
I am incredibly impressed with everything in this video. Thanks youtube for recommending this one. I really wish I would get to this level of hardware/firmware understanding at some point. Any tips for good resources? Obviously experience over time is probably the best way to get there.
I’ve loved watching this process, the end result looks beautiful, thanks for documenting! Fascinated at how you re-wrote the firmware for the ST chip, really impressive, out of curiosity if the IC wasn’t an ST chip would you have found this process more complicated? Love the cnc skills as well, routing plastic doesn’t look so nice, you are certainly braver than me!
What what? How? Please explain. Do you mean that you can trigger firmware dumps by glitching the clock?!? How is this accomplished? I am genuinely asking.
I think the technical name for this is "over engineered"... not that I know what that means... it was 100% neccesary for me to write checks to make sure my boolean comparison result wasn't tristate!
Great video and software/hardware detective work but.. either raise the voice level or lower the music. I had to turn on captions to understand your voice at times.
1:54 No no no, you can't press this button more than 3 times a second! I won't let you! I'm going to ignooore you!! I caaan't heeearr youuu!!! Too much debouncing is the worst.
I state that: I am Italian and I do not understand the English language very well. But I didn't understand what you have achieved and what it is for :-( I'm sorry ...
When life gives you lemons... flash its firmware and redesign it from the ground up!
Just what I've always said
You are a true polymath
No!
It can't be!
Afro, you are still alive?!
Are you planning on making videos again?
it's one of my goals in life to be described as a polymath by someone unprompted & unbiased.
I remember you
hope you make comeback.
What's that?
IDK why RUclips recommended this to me, but I love it.
So much work for just 4 buttons. Exactly my stuff!
Simple question: What happens if you press two buttons at once?
It will blow the world up BOOM efery one deadh
Depends i guess. The short circuit buttons will overwrite the lowpass buttons. You could maybe dissern both lowpass buttons getting pressed from an individual button press but in the end it does not matter too much in this application
Magic smoke.
just dont do it xD

feeling blessed this channel was recommended to me
the music in this is fantastic. it makes it all feel like a grand mystery being unraveled.

What an amazing skill-set you've developed.
Hooray, a new scanlime video! Totally worth the wait, love how this project turned out.

when i grow up i want my job to look like this.
Awesome! I appreciate the level of production you applied to this thing. Looks very polished.
No way this was 25 minutes! I know pretty much nothing about what you did but I was still super engaged!
I really appreciate your reverse engineering work here. I was able to take the information you gathered and modify my own usb switch, I added an esp8266 to mine and host a simple web server so that I can swap to different machines without buttons. I also got rid of the auto switch functionality.
i don't now why youtube recommend this to me, but it was very entertaining
Can't give this enough thumbs up! Excellent work, Micah. I miss the chat and the streams.
This presentation style is so unique. I love it. You are like the "Applied science" of aesthetic.
Hahaha your face looking at the cnc mill through the mill webcam :DDDDDD
I loved that moment too
the most cryptic diy project

the frame blending in the timelapses of you cadding looks so smooth compared to frame sampling
I wonder if it wouldn't be easier to just build one from scratch. But I'm happy that you didn't.

this video is such a vibe, love it
stumbled on this video accidentally, but... very glad I did, really enjoying the content

that mix of making/hacking and ASMR-ish-ness, both relaxing and interesting. the youtube algorithm can be fickle but sometimes it'll give you a gem.
This is amazing! Thanks for the video, I'm surprised I haven't seen your channel before!
Holy shit your circuit design is so fucking clever!
One of the most brilliant and inspiring things I've ever fucking seen.
Not sure what I just watched but dangit it was cool.
Never saw something quite like this for long out here, great!🔥💯
i got a headache just watching her. shes amazing.
Very nice editing !
You should upload more!
Glad to see more videos! Long time no see 😊
First video I see of you, love the style
this is my kind of ASMR
This video is amazingly good! Like, this is a real ass piece of art you've made. What's the music? It's hypnotizing.

what's the name of the mini milling machine, love it and need it

Really nicely done. I love the clean concept and design. Some slight imperfections but still really beautiful.
I'm jelly ;)
This is what "hacking" montages in movies should look like.
too much thinking not enough explosions, main stream would never go for it
IT SHOULD THOUGH
I was gonna say the same - I could literally take this video and edit it into a movie scene. I found myself saying "they should act".
this ist like hacking in a database its more like redesigning/modding someting but realy good
The algorithm brought me here and I like it.
I was in awe for the 25 minutes and 5 second I was watching this. What a wonderful adventure from being annoyed at a loud button.
Woah new scanlime
right?! I was just looking if a new video was uploaded _yesterday_ lol
