How To Get Cancelled.

  • Welcome back to The Jaws of Victory, this week we're discussing THE DOWNFALL. Myself and my producer Jenny May Finn get stuck into the topic of when artists fall from grace and their reputation destroyed. This is often referred to as being cancelled, but it’s a little more nuanced. Why and how does this happen and how do you avoid it? Jenny May proceeds to test me to see if she can trap me and instigate my DOWNFALL. Did I pass?

I have an anti cancellation story about you Justin! When I was about 15, I had a friend with a fake ID and inattentive parents, who used to wangle her way into clubs and other places she was too young to be. She ran into you around that time, in a club in Stoke, after the Darkness had played Keele student union. She was a bit surprised I think, that you pretty much immediately clocked she was underage, before gently suggesting that she should probably go home and apparently checking if she had enough cash for a taxi. I know that's just normal, decent person behaviour, but I will always be glad that you looked out for my mate in that particular moment. You're a good egg, in a world full of rotters.

When I was sixteen, I was at a Motley Crue concert, and they sent a guy out into the crowds to look for girls, my two friends and I were picked out, but the guy lost us in the crowd. We cried about it back then, because we were young and stupid. Today, I'm happy about it. Such a difference in behavior... I mean, difference between Justin and Motley Crue!

The Growlers hired a male stripper, who is the one who assaulted the singer. It was the stripper, not the lead singer, but everything else is true...the filming, the laughing. I believe a couple of other bands on that label had touchy feely problems too. This was an amazing and intelligent discussion, and you have aced the media training and remain, as ever, non-cancelled. Its sad to think in a world full of enterprise and advancement, we do not feel we can communicate with others by sharing our own thoughts without some sort of backlash. That fear of loosing friends and family stops us from being able to share views alot, I believe those in the spotlight should be able to have their own private lives, with beliefs and opinions and these should not affect their following. The world would be a boring place if we all liked and believed in the same things, albeit wars would not be around if we did all have an identical view point. I agree with downfall and cancel culture in respect of criminal activity in any stance, but basing that culture on opinion, the world needs to grow up.

I think it’s when people offer views on the extreme ends of the spectrum that they get “cancelled” or find their downfall. It doesn’t just alienate the opposition in that case but those who sit in the middle as well. Not all debates are as clear cut as right vs wrong or good vs evil. The fairest solution can usually be found somewhere in the middle. Or occasionally in a different direction entirely.

Also- multi-billionaires shouldn’t exist, it’s immoral while there are so many poor, starving people. Jeff Bezos doesn’t work $130+billion times harder or longer than his employees, that’s profit he could be sharing but he chooses no to. Also- having basic human empathy shouldn’t be controversial actually 🤷🏻‍♀️ keep rocking!👏🏻✨

Also, Bezos ex wife got so much money because she was instrumental in building Amazon when they just started the company AND she gives a significant amount of that to charity. Unlike Bezos. I live in Washington State and we don't have state income taxes so Bezos and Gates don't even have to pay our state that.

put in a mathematical equation: downfall is inversely proportional to net worth divided by the industry revenue collection plus legal fees minus estimated cultural relevance.

Jenny May Finn was awesome in causing your downfall multiple times.
Having industry insiders is all well and good, but we want more of the Justin and Jenny show.
Or maybe you can have celebs come on the podcast and both of you grill them together, and possibly cause a downfall or two.

This was an excellent episode. Jenny May was astounding in her drive and manner in which she held her attack of questioning.. Calm, to the point.. I wholeheartedly agree that there is no climate crisis, Justin, you need to do your research and listen to climate scientists not in the pay of govts. Our planet is doing what it has always done, demonising CO2 is ridiculous, it is the gas of life, without it we and all life is dead. Jenny May was amazing, thank you for an incredible podcast.

Maybe you should listen to more of The Darkness, then! I've followed them since PTL in 2003 or 4. Finding a band that appeals to people over age 50 is amazing in the USA! I'll be 60 in September.
Trump was indicted on 49 counts by the federal government today...... he'll walk. And run for president again, though the lack of popularity will likely do him in. But Trump can still run next year unless he's convicted on one of the charges dropped today.
Many men have said that women shouldn't be in combat because we're "too vicious". We are stronger than your gender, Justin. Mentally we're tougher and stronger and more resilient in spades! We are tough, if we want to be. My adult life has been difficult to say the least, and I expect it to get worse this next election year. If Trump wins, the USA is ****ed!

I just sold my 1989 Hamer with Sustainic & I thought it would be great with your singing abilities. Sustainiac & you could hold & bend all the notes you want all day long. My next project is to take a Strat knockoff & place the center pickup next to the bridge pickup. No need for coil taps & all is controlled by the 5 way switch. I'm going to cut the pickup guard so I can move the pickup fore & aft for different tones. WooHoo!!!
