- A Tolkienesque saga of love, heartbreak, forgiveness, tragedy, movies, rock n' roll, and redemption. Revisit everything from the rocky beginnings of Ayaka and Tim's relationship to the resurrection of Tom Cruise Heidecker as the salvation of Decker in this clumsily edited and chronologically compiled collection of clips from "On Cinema at the Cinema"

Or is it just #MakeDeckerGreatAgain ?
Well the video's already uploaded and I'm not fixing it because it took kind of a long time. It's not my fault Tim was too drunk to say the hashtag correctly on the Oscar Special
"yeah it's been a bummer for sure" - Tim's response to condolences towards his dead son

“One of those deals ya know” lol
Hey now, he loved Tom Cruise Jr. he even paid alot of money to get his dead son recreated through the magic of CGI and to speak at his wedding Oscar special
On one of the On Cinema specials I think he referred to it as "bitter sweet"

It's literally only just dawned on me that Tim's wife didn't want him to get the surgery on his 'not a tumour' because she wanted him to die. Wow. It only took me NINE years?!
I heard there was an original plot where Tim died at the end of the second oscar special

Ayaka is an angel, a beacon of light, and too good for Tim. She should go out with a real gentleman and an actual film buff like Gregg!
Yea, I have a feeling Gregg would be more affectionate than Tim. Gregg is romantically stunted, but he's a true sweetheart.

lmao that killed me
I love Gregg
I know LMFAOOOOO
I'm really really late to this convo but I gotta jump in and say Cap'n Crunch is a Quaker Oats resource NOT General Mills. If Gregg is in talks with General Mills they are stringing him along for God knows what reason. They must think when Gregg's Johnny Depp Cap'n Crunch film is the colossal hit it's destined to be they will lose an enormous amount of revenue due to the "Crunch-o-Mania" that would inevitably occur. General Mills is deliberately misleading Gregg to keep him and his film from eating into their profits.

This is one of the most brilliant pieces of comedy ever written.
I almost choked on a carrot when CGI Tom Cruise Jr. just randomly appeared onscreen for a brief moment near the end.
All jokes aside...these events takes commitment to execute from Ayakas arrival to Toms Death all the way down to The Rebirth of Decker and all the Oscar specials with the James Dean return and his band Dekkar. Tim is probably the closest thing to Andy Kaufman. I bet Tims got this whole thing story laid out all the way down 2021.
I totally agree. (and this is a great compilation) but .. I wouldn't underestimate Turkington's creative influence here. He has been a massive creative force in the LA alternative comedy scene. I think he probably influenced Tim quite a bit and really helped shape this show. if you think of his history creating the hamburger character and him really being a giant troll on the comedy scene for years. IMHO
Most Definitely dude I was introduced to Neil Hamburger through Tenacious D and I get why Tim works with him,but I really like whatever Tim produce.
+aaronsdavis cool to read stories like these. no bunch of nonames trying to be funny but actually someone who has some cool history to shown in public. thanks for that :) im now chilling before night time and another work day tommorow. im a journeyman carpenter and learning how to wood things xd cheers from Poland
Yes, I first recall hearing a tape of prank phone calls he made. I think it was while he had the band Zip Code rapists. The memory is a bit blurry. was around 1992
I was thinking the exact same thing about him being like Andy, he really is our generations Kaufman.
He became the Tom they wanted him to be, truly beautiful.
So sad he passed, there was something with the vaccines he got. It was impossible for Dr. San to save him :(
+Julian Klomsten excellent point. As we all know, Dr. San truly tried everything, from acupuncture to crystals. To no avail. Sad. :(

Thanks for putting this together. It's a sad but gripping story that spanned more seasons than I even remembered.. While it was happening I just hoped for the best. Now that it's over I can see it was riddled with drama and could become a cautionary tale about getting surgery against one's wife's wishes. Even so, TCJR was one of the greats.
Ayaka has stole Tim's heart, he has never been the same. Although, I think the medicinal vaping is helping and Dekkar certainly is.

I put myself in Tom's shoes and watched The Peanuts Movie and it was a wonderful experience. Thanks, Gregg.
Greg knows his character too well. I can't see the line. I'm not sure how much of greg is a character.
Look up Neil Hamburger. Same guy. He's a fucking incredible actor.
It’s at Andy Kaufman levels, same as his doing prank calls. Some of the weirdest time I’ve spent with black sound in my head was Kaufman’s recordings 🚖
He's a professional
Nah, I mean yeah lol, he’s just super good. But you can bet he’s totally different in a writers room, he just plays characters extremely well because he’s been Neil Hamburger for a careers worth of work and time put into that craft.

It's a double entendre. Tom Cruise Heidecker and TetraHydroCannabinol, which is the psychoactive chemical in Marijuana that gets you high. It works on two levels. It is clever little bit but I'd give it two bags of popcorn, lightly buttered and salted, and a little one hitter pipe for taking before a Creech and Crong re-feature at the local Alamo Drafthouse.

Interesting how Gregg "suggested" TCjr's life insurance policy only a week before his untimely demise...Interesting how Tim never wanted the baby, but suddenly gained interest after Decker lost funding thanks to Turkington's role in directing Decker Vs. Dracula...Interesting how Dr. San was also suddenly involved with Ayaka once Tim wanted to be a part of their lives again, especially since Tim was well aware of San's practices and how ill he became under the doctor's care. I sense foul play...I could be wrong.

After studying TCJrH's facial features, gestures, moods, and, most prominently, his hairstyle, I have come to the the conclusion that he may have in fact been GREGG's son, and not Tim Heidecker's. This may explain Gregg's overall dourness, his serruptious demeanor, and may have been a supremely dubious maneuver to try and underhandedly steal the mantle fron Tim. Sinister, yes, but I wouldnt put it past Gregg to have tried something nefarious of this nature. Gregg may have planted his video of Air Heads in Tim's apartment with the help of Ayaka, which indeed was the kindling that led to the subsequent tumultuous turn of events thereafter.
Think about it!
OMG
I think you're on to something. Notice Gregg's pleased reaction when he learns of Ayaka's pregnancy.
J Wunder Unfortunately in the subsequent months since i wrote that, i think On Cinema has grown lazy with their storyline ideas. Something preposterous like what I theorized would be way too earth shaking a maneuver for them to handle and bring forward with exuberance and solid acting chops. Then again, Tim is currently in jail for the murder of 18 people so he probably doesnt have time to come up with any better ideas for this shit series.
Thought about it. 'Serruptious' still isn't a word.
I don't think it was Gregg's kid. I think Gregg was just the closest thing TCJ had to a real father. I mean, Gregg may be passive aggressive and a wet-blanket, but he seems like a really good guy who really cares about Tim and his family (at least in the early seasons). I think he's just a normal, socially conscious human being who got attached to a child that was basically his since his own real father wanted nothing to do with him. I think that's what you're supposed to take away from all this.
I mean look at it this way, how would YOU react in a situation where a child has been in your life for over a year, often living in your home, and suddenly died because his real father was neglectful?
If anything,I think the story arc would be a lot less realistic (if that can even be applied to a wacky series like this) if TCJ was Gregg's kid. I think any normal father would be far angrier about the situation, and likely wouldn't keep it a secret for long.
"Gregg you want to say a few words about little Tom Cruise Heidecker?".
"Uh yeah well he was great to work with..."

The abortion speech around 14:00 is my favorite bit in the entire On Cinema story line. Tim's willingness to speak openly about choosing to abort his child while simultaneously claiming to being pro-life and totally failing to put any spin on it to deflect his personal responsibility in that choice displays a mind boggling lack of self awareness. I struggle to find the words to describe how far he put his foot in his mouth. It's hard to put a fine enough point on how loathsome his character is in this show. Even now, I feel like everything I've written here doesn't even begin to convey the cognitive dissonance he displays. To overstate it seems impossible. The more I ponder on it the more confounding it becomes. Great job!
