Freddie once said in his interview that he is only the lead singer but not the leader of the band, they are (were) all 4 equal people who wrote number 1 hit! As a Queen fan I totally agree!
It's a BAND (not just Freddie). . . 4 fantastic musicians, each intent on 'entertaining. Freddie the one with the Art Degree felt wearing 'white' was great - even those from the last row of even the most massive audience would be able to see them. But early in their career it was agreed each could wear what ever they wanted. Freddie makes certain to lead your attention to John on bass, Roger on drums and Brian on Guitar. All four legendary.
you are so right!! and Freddie would never have said that he was the star...he always said he is not the leader...just the lead singer. he was very humble. and yes...they were all musical genius great performers and musicians .
"I've been alive for four and a half centuries , and I cannot die - I am , Connor Macleod of the clan Macleod ; I was born in 1518 in the village of Glenn Finnen on the shores of Loch Shiel , and I am Immortal"
Queen wrote the score for the movie "Highlander". Queen's drummer, Roger Taylor wrote "It's A Kind Of Magic" for the score. "The phrase “a kind of magic” is used "by the main character in the film, Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) as a description of his immortality. Roger liked the phrase so much that he used it as inspiration for the song. There are references to the film in the lyrics: “one prize, one goal”; “no mortal man”; and “there can be only one”. Roger wrote the melody and chords for the version that appeared in the film, which Queen guitarist, Brian May, described as “quite lugubrious and heavy”. Freddie was really captivated by the song but he felt if a few changes were made, it could be better than what Roger had written. So while Roger was on holiday, Freddie composed a new bass line, added instrumental breaks, and changed the song’s order to make it more chart-friendly. Then Freddie, along with David Richards produced this new version. When Roger returned from holiday and heard Freddie's version, he was a bit peeved but had to admit it was more rock and roll. While Roger’s version is at the end of the film, Freddie’s version appears on the album, in the video, and is the one Queen performs live. Taylor’s version of A Kind of Magic did not see official release until it was included on the extra EP for the 2011 special edition of the album. Roger is still credited as the sole writer of It's A Kind Of Magic,
I have to wonder if Freddie knew he was HIV+ when they did the Highlander sound track. Because that would make “Who Wants To Live Forever” so much more poignant… 😢
