Z Broly is just too savage and violent for Super. The whole movie felt like it had consequence and was dark compared to the new one. Too much pure unadulterated non retconned Saiyan aggression.

Lonely Boy Adventurer The funny thing is, most Dragonball fans seem to love Frieza, a character who we don’t even know where he came from and is an evil dictator/murderer for no real reason other than being evil. We have no knowledge about his origins or why he behaves the way he does, yet Broly is hated for being “evil for the sake of being evil” even though we have a clear explanation for why he acts the way he does. I think the fact that Z Broly is a non-canon character is why most new Broly fans dislike him. Anything that’s not written by Toriyama is seen as a sin against Dragonball to those people.

    • @lonelyboyadventurer1033
      @lonelyboyadventurer1033  4 года назад +28

I've always seen Dragon Ball Z as a fill in the blanks yourself / up to your interpretations series, (originating from a combination of dialogue lost in translation, anime exclusive scenes and even Toriyama himself) and that's pretty much how the fan base was up until the release of "Resurrection F", but pretty much since then a few groups have risen up and have pretty much tried to write a doctrine of What's Great About Dragon Ball, many times their points are logical ... but not always, but because they nailed a few of them that's caused many people to just adopt all of their opinions without question. Like I found at that point and time many people didn't truly remember the series, so when this new group with decent explanations came along, many fans essentially let their own beliefs be overwritten, thus creating this uniform mentality where all current trends stem from: Original Broly is bad (just a male Kale), Frieza is the best villain, canon over filler, Kai over the original anime adaptation.

    • @genericname9994
      @genericname9994 4 года назад +13

Lonely Boy Adventurer I’ve felt the same way about Dragonball also. Having it being open to interpretation is what made DBZ unique. You could essentially create your own story from the missing pieces. Your point about these groups swaying the opinions of many is spot on as well. It seems that these Dragonball channels have way too much influence over the perception of certain characters within the series or what makes it good to begin with. TeamFourStar is the biggest offender(IMO) when it comes to influence and I believe they are partially responsible for the increase in hatred of Z Broly. They basically made him an unlikable idiot who could only speak in third person and now people actually believe that’s how he behaved when he was introduced even though ironically, Broly was one of the more intelligent, nuanced villains. The “goku crying” part was so focused on in that parody that everyone forgot that Broly was already naturally ruthless and unstable as a character. I’ve always felt like the crying part of Broly’s backstory was just an excuse the writers came up with on the spot to have Broly fight Goku. Without goku, Broly had a solid backstory. It’s almost like a unwritten rule that all villains have to have a grudge against Goku, never Vegeta. Nowadays it seems the general consensus of Dragonball fans is that anything non-canon or filler should be heavily criticized and lambasted for not being directly created by Toriyama. I’ve always felt like the fanbase changed for the worse in recent years.

      @Kruegernator123 4 года назад +32

@@genericname9994 Another reason why people love New Broly is solely because Toriyama had a role in designing him. People will hate on Toei for creating Old Broly, yet love them for creating cool filler characters like Pikkon. Meanwhile Toriyama will completely forget about characters in his own series (Launch anyone?) or completely neglect them after their character arcs are finished (Yamcha, Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta, etc).
Toriyama even made up that stupid "S-Cell" stuff to make a half-baked explanation about how Super Saiyans are made. It's a complete rip-off of the Midichlorians from Star Wars, which is an extremely unpopular plot device in that series' fandom as well.

I slightly disagree with your interpretation. You're correct with your dynamics: city girl, country boy, but you're wrong with your analysis of Goku. The whole point of Dragon Ball regards how homegrown common sense always prevails over the superficial (intelligence, titles, images). For instance even though Bulma may have education, she has no streets smarts and constantly falls for traps forcing her to rely on others, usually Goku for assistance and even though she may have the insight to create intricate machines, she often fails to put two and two together, like she originally intended to use the dragon balls to wish for a boyfriend, but she couldn't see that she already had everything she wanted in one in Yamcha.

I think this new movie actually makes dumbs down Paragus' character too. In the original Paragus wasn't shown to be abusive to Broly. Just strained by his lack of control over him, both with and without the head device. Broly was shown to be a character that was hard to reason with, without the control which makes me sympathize with him in the original a bit more.
People also complain about Vegeta being terrified of Broly in the original, because they think Vegeta is supposed to be the "cool pride guy" but without it, there isn't any significance to Broly in the lore. It wouldn't make sense now due to SSB but thats again due to the overpowering of the Super characters.

From around 2007 to 2015, a number of fans including myself took a break from the Dragon Ball franchise, so when our interest in it rekindled, our unfresh memories were quite susceptible to external influences and I think Teamfourstar's content (probably unintentionally) overwrote many people's memories of the series, and let me say that had their work been released years earlier, when Dragon Ball was still fresh in many fan's minds, I think more fans would have resisted the Teamfourstar narrative.

The new Broly wasn’t intended to be a cold and sadistic villain but a victim to be used as the strong opponent of Goku and Vegeta. I feel like Old Broly is great and New Broly is great, but the both of them compliment each other. OG Broly in his base was never in control, most of his actions were monitored and he was forced to act in a passive way. He was a sadist who loved to watch others suffer at his own hands, and reveled I'm the fact he is the one who caused it. Current Broly's true nature is a gentle giant, who wants nothing more than to be at peace with his loved ones. This personality is only exhibited in his base, though, and when he transforms he loses control of himself and ends up doing things the real him would find deplorable. They're quite literal opposites in almost every sense of who they are and what they represent, and yet these two conflicting personalities can serve almost the exact same purpose when viewed at surface level.

Great video man. Always preferred the Og broly and felt the story had more teeth to it. It actually made more sense in terms of the overall saiyan lore. That's one thing I see not too many people taking into account when judging the Brolys, the aura of them, which is one of the reasons why I prefer the original because he exudes the sense of a monster, nothing can escape his grasp, and nothing can stop or damage him. Whereas with the new Broly everything about him is outright telegraphed, Cheelai said something along the lines of "[New] Broly's just a little boy who was manipulated by his father", so essentially the originally Broly is defined by his and the new one is built on by the description of others, and since I think actions speak louder than words, I therefore believe the original is better. I probably got a little too wordy.

Don't worry I get that way too, and just saying. I would say DBZ Broly would of been a better choice for a T.O.P contender, especially destroying those weak universe 6 saiyans. I mean a no death rule is absolutely stupid, I'd rather have death come to the pointless characters AKA the universe 6 saiyans IMO. And why I keep saying that is cause the introduction of other universes is stupid, we didn't need them then and we sure as hell don't need them now. Super is just stupid since there are no consequences, while other chapters of Dragon Ball actually had death to the evil threats. And plus, people complain about the Old Broly yelling all the time while New Broly yells throughout the new movie. Here is why the Dragon ball Fans are biased, anything made by Toriama is automatically loved while anything made by someone else is hated immediately. DBZ Broly would of been a better suited G.O.D than Beerus due to Broly destroying the weak while Beerus just destroys when he doesn't get his way.

Sure Cell had green glow once or twice, but over all, Broly (both DBZ and DBS) is the only one with actual green energy attacks and aura. Like we have seen an entire rainbow of blue, yellow, red, white, purple, orange, and pink attacks, but no one else has green.

He could’ve been a god of destruction since he was what a true saiyan was which was “WICKED”. Original Broly could’ve been used later on in the series or something, I mean, look what they did with Frieza, he starting to change. They messed the original broly up bad and his story. And they messed up everything else now to, making the saiyan race which were evil sadist tyrants into soft hearted people. That new broly movie made everything non canon and tweaked the original DBZ storyline. They could’ve re used him for the universe tournament, could’ve had goku and vegeta go to hell and get him for the tournament to defend universe 7 and I know they could’ve have re used him because goku and vegeta were stronger than him at this point, broly was still on ss3 level but, you know people don’t think outside the box. Akira Toriyama messed up a good character and they didn’t even use Vic mignogoa to voice Broly, it wouldn’t be the same without him. 😔

To be fair, hints of Super Broly's characterization were actually already starting to show as early as Supersonic Warriors 2, so I wouldn't necessarily say original Broly would have already been a devil anyways (heck, Goku showed more potential at being a warrior via his crying than Broly did based on the medics statements, and let's not forget, Goku originally was shown to be very wild and less than an ideal kid, and in fact, amnesia was the ONLY reason he had a pure heart at all.). And I personally didn't mind either version, to be honest. Super or Z, he was a great character, and even before Super, I actually wished Broly could have gotten the help he clearly needed (the guy was clearly suffering from PTSD from being stabbed at the order of his own race's king and then nearly being atomized by Frieza. I don't think I CAN blame how he turned out from that) and even become a good guy. He definitely would have made an invaluable ally to the Z-Fighters had he become good, that's for sure.
Also, they DID use Vic Mignogna to voice Super Broly. Unfortunately, that was the last time he was allowed to voice the character thanks to that stupid Kick Vic campaign that, ironically enough, Goku's voice actor was involved in. And for the record, Broly's replacement VA deserves chops for one thing: He DEFENDED Vic and called out everyone who got Vic kicked out.

Oh, and he gets redeemed, relents on his desires for revenge on Goku for Mr. Satan's sake).

@@chadgrimes252 To be fair, Gohan had a very high power level for his age (high enough that Raditz was initially in disbelief when seeing its power level in his scouter), and he ultimately turned out alright. I'm pretty sure that with the proper training, Broly probably would have turned out similarly, LSSJ powers or not. Granted, he might have still been insane ultimately, but he could have been insane yet ultimately good. Like Raiden from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance for example, or more specifically his Jack the Ripper identity. Or even the Creeper from the DC Justice League.
I also suspect his wiping out most of the galaxy was actually more of Paragus's doing than Broly himself (since the beginning of the film DID have King Kai reacting with sadness and horror at the South Galaxy being destroyed as if it just recently happened, and considering this occurred during the Cell Games Saga where the Z Fighters were about to fight Cell, that would have been too long for Broly to do so especially given King Kai's reaction [if anything, King Kai would have arranged for Broly to be dispatched a LOT sooner if it were his own doing and not being under the effects of that crown.].). Now, that said, there were maybe one or two planets Broly himself was definitely responsible for destroying, don't get me wrong (the flashback more than made that clear), but again, just from the flashback, it was only one or two planets, and we know Broly was put under mind control fairly early on due to Paragus not getting his moustache yet when he put it on him. And let's not forget, the flashback DID make clear Paragus ultimately DID get drunk off of Broly's power after outfitting him with the device. Heck, if anything, considering his vendetta against Vegeta, I wouldn't be surprised if Paragus after outfitting Broly with the crown DID actually use him to blow up the galaxy specifically as part of his plan to lure Vegeta into a trap. I also suspect Broly's attack on the Shamoians was also after being outfitted with the crown, especially considering one of them DID recognize Broly in his base form, while he was still wearing the crown (and why would Paragus enslave the Shamoians afterward if it was before Broly got outfitted with the crown? Afterwards, it at least made sense due to him needing to set up the trap for Vegeta, and part of it entailed trying to make New Planet Vegeta LOOK like the original, hence the slave labor).

The first Broly movie is fascinating, and I imagine it was made this way because at the time, the protagonist of the anime and the one who was going to defeat the main villain was Gohan, so in order not to lose or take the role of Goku as the protagonist, the story was done this way, let me explain. In the movie, Paragus states that "Now I remember that Broly and Kakarot were born on the same day", as we know, Toei made Broly to fill-in the plot-hole that, originally, the legendary super sayayin was born every 1000 years. If Broly and Goku were born on THE SAME DAY, this means that they are both the legendary super sayayin of the legend, an extremely important detail that unfortunately always goes unnoticed by fans. When we see them as babies, one of the nurses says that although Broly was born with 10,000 units of power (lmao), Bardock's son cries more, so he has "more guts", then Paragus mentions that "Fate has made sure that this duel becomes a great disaster!", the duel that had already been predisposed by destiny and that Goku has chances of actually winning, and Broly knows this, hence his hatred for Goku. When Broly and Goku meet for the first time, they stare at each other and a shot of Broly's green ki and Goku's yellow ki opens, and they both have the same feeling towards each other, the same RIVALNESS. The legend has two realms, the mystical-magical side (every 1000 years) and the physical side (the legendary ki of green nature). Goku and Broly have a dualism, but they are still two sides of the same coin; Broly was born extremely powerful and evil, while Goku was born a low-class warrior, but he is pure-hearted. The story tries to tell us that Goku, being the good one, has fate on his side and ends up being the winner, by putting inside Broly the little energy that everyone had left in order to make him explode by himself and this is where a shot of them as babies finally opens up to us again, with a light on them, the same light of destiny that we see again on them as adults. In the end, Goku ends up being the winner of the match. This is how I have always interpreted the film since I was a kid, and it is a pity that it is not given the recognition it so rightfully deserves by the community and there is this misconception that Broly hated Goku just because he cried a lot when they were babies. That idea only came out in the second movie, completely shitting on the original idea. This is because Broly's story should only have been the first movie, but Broly was too popular for his own good. The cliche that Broly hated Goku for "stupid reasons" and just yelled KAKAROOOOT! is a stereotype imposed by the two subsequent films and the videogames.

I agree with everything you said, and building off of the line of "more guts" in the country of Japan, an infant with a loud cry represents willpower and that they will be a strong person as an adult. As evidence google Naki Sumo Crying Baby Festival. Broly as a character likes to break the spirit slash willpower of others, think how his legendary super saiyan transformation actually rendered an adult Vegeta speechless. So, Goku's endless loud crying as an infant meant that Broly couldn't intimidate Goku into silence and that idea carried on to them as adults, where Broly through energy recognized Goku's great strength.
I actually wrote and uploaded a follow-up video to this concept, if your interested.

No problem, I enjoy communicating with people like yourself. Interesting information regarding the Japanese ost. One thing I might also include how destiny essentially repeated itself as adults: a knife pierced Broly as an infant, Goku's fist penerated him in a similar way to land the fatal blow; the infant Broly escape an exploding planet Vegeta, but as an adult the destruction of the new planet Vegeta ultimately consumed him ... or at least until the sequel forced him to survive.

Something i'd like to bring up that people say that broly should hate vegeta more than goku because of what his father did and should have focused more on him but its likely he was more interested in fighting than revenge. As a saiyan he is naturally inclined to violence and has an inborn desire for battle and testing his mettle against strong opponents so a battle against some of the stongest fighters in the universe(at the time) most of them being saiyans (super saiyans in fact) is a once in a life time opprotunity he wouldn't pass up for anything. Especially as he only has a limited amount of time to do so and since Vegeta lost his will to fight before broly got started he probably thought he wasnt worth his time and went about fighting everyone that fought him and was so dissapointed that he had beaten all of them so quickly that he decided he would just flat out kill them until piccolo showed up and healed everyone. Broly also has shown that he has respect for goku and the others as in the original sub he says " Knowing that you have no chance of victory yet still go on to fight me? Truly you are worthy of your saiyn blood!" Whereas for Vegeta he does show that he certainly does hate him because by the time he does join in the fight broly focuses only on vegeta batting trunks aside to get to him, mocking him, putting forth the effort to actually oneshot him, taking the time to humiliate him by teasingly pushing his face into the side of a cliff, calls him worthless garbage, and throws him aside like trash into a chasm to meet his fate beaten and broken on a doomed planet (sound familiar) while he goes back to having fun. On that note has anyone noticed he is probably the only one actually having fun in this movie as that maniacal smile almost never leaves his face and spends a good chunk of his screen time laughing while beats everyone up ( like when he turns goku into a human trampoline giggling like a little kid) and he purposely drags out fights so he can enjoy them as long possible ( this hubris actively eventually bites him back) so it makes it seem as if he is actally having the time of his life more than anything. Also i dont see why people call him angry most of the time. Sure he is pretty intense when he's in combat but he seems pretty softspoken and almost laid back in the lulls between fightscenes as he casually trades banter between piccolo, goku, and vegeta

A frequently heard insult of the original had him called a "big baby", while the new one literally carries around a safety blanket. I don't hate the new Broly, it's just that the vast majority of the original's criticisms apply more to the new one.

@@lonelyboyadventurer1033 It's not really a safety blanket, more of a memento to his first real friend (a better comparison would be something like Big Boss's usage of The Boss's bandana from the ending of Snake Eater up to the first ending of Peace Walker). But I can sort of agree with your point. Still like both versions, though (and if you ask me, the Super version was how Z Broly would have turned out had King Vegeta NOT stabbed him. I'm sorry, but the guy barely even cried, only did so when Goku did. I simply cannot see the original Broly even having the ambition to overthrow King Vegeta pre-stabbing, 10,000 BP or not. Ironically, Goku pre-amnesia probably would have come closer to actually BEING a threat to King Vegeta eventually despite his 2 BP precisely BECAUSE of the latter's intense wailing, based on what those medics stated.).

THIS is the reason why his trigger expanded!

People that hate Broly for some reason like Kid Boo because he has a personality. Assuming that Broly himself doesn't have one. Bio Broly, a clone, has no personality. Broly from Z actually has one.
The thing I loved about the old Paragus is that at the beginning he loved Broly, but over time, he had to learn how true the claims of King Vegeta was and went as far as brainwashing his own son. Paragus was actually a very proud father in the original movie and a pretty good villain too.
To add to the destiny part of the original Broly, as Vegeta once said during his first encounter. Strong Saiyans are treated better than low class Saiyans. But the movie took the opposite concept. Because Goku was so weak, he was sent to earth and learned under various martial arts including Gods. With his desire to protect others that are dear to him, he eventually defeated the man who destroyed his entire race.
While Broly was born too powerful that he became a thorn in King Vegeta's eyes, thus he ordered the execution of Broly. It is implied that Broly is likely associating the pain of the attack with the knife with Goku's crying.
It was also satisfying when Goku won at the end, because while Broly had power, power is all he had.
There is another character that used the chest blast like Broly.... and it's female Broly which is a bland rip off of Broly which in her normal form is some shy girl.

Correction - original Broly NEVER was hating Goku.
    Literally.
That's wasn't happening in any movie except for Z 10 where he lost his consciousness because of the coma and the only thing that was driving him to live is a subconsciousness memory of his infant times.
In Z8 Movie - the only thing that cry was all about is it was so deep subconsciousness tic in Broly's head, that the voice of Goku was able to awake Broly's mind.
    THAT'S IT!
Broly NEVER had any "hatred" towards Goku any time at all!
The only thing Broly did to Goku more than to other characters in that fight - was a line "Kakarotto, you'll going to be first to be killed", and Broly's play on Goku's feelings towards his son in this one line "Kakarotto, are you love your son?", what is a natural thing for him to do, to play on someone's feelings when he sees a weak spot, he was doing the exact same thing to all others.
    THAT'S ALL!
IT NEVER WAS ABOUT ANY SPECIAL "HATRED" TO GOKU!
Broly just dislikes Kakarotto a little more than others because of a tic, because of associations - BUT HE WASN'T SPEFICIALLY TARGETING HIM OR HAD ANY SPECIAL FEELINGS TOWARDS HIM!
In the Z 10 Movie he was MENTALLY BREAK! This tic from his infancy AND the fact that Goku made such a hard wound on him - THOSE were the things provoking him to continuosly chasing anything similar to Goku! He literally wake up from a 7 years coma and is not cognitive, so the only thing that was driving him most of the time BECAUSE of that is a tic AND the memory if his defeat from Goku's hands, with only a slight clearings of dying mind!
Modern and western fans are really have almost no understanding of Broly (and Sroly either). Completely.

Glad you enjoyed my video and I'm happy I could be that different viewpoint. Let me say "misunderstanding" the original Broly is an understatement after something I realized after uploading this video, I'll attach a previously written comment below explaining.
"I actually wrote a video on the true purpose of Goku's crying not too long ago, my [seventh] most recent upload. To summarize Goku's crying embodied the spirit of a great unbreakable warrior, as said by the guards stationed in his nursery, "that boy's got guts for crying in the presence of such a strong person" and Broly's innate power could break people's spirits (silence them) like how it did with Vegeta as an adult, but Broly's power couldn't silence/break Goku, hence why he despises him. I explain it in greater detail in my other video, but I thought I'd include this anyway." Since then I even learned an additional fact that the country of Japan celebrates a festival known as "the Naki Sumo Crying Baby Festival," which even further supports my claim as they hold a contest to find the baby with the loudest cries.

Bro I just realised, Broly got the *Kratos* treatment:
The stablished, misinterpretated iconic character, who was stigmated as a raging, mindless brute, is teared down by critics, in order to elevate the new, kinder, calmer and "more fleshed out" version.

I have some ideas on how to go about with that video, such as comparing it to the just as poorly written the Last of Us 2 and Hitman: Silent Assassin, but I still just feel like I'm missing that certain element to make it my own.
Right now the AAA video game industry is going through a phase of appreciating bad clichéd art that lacks any subtly whatsoever and overly favors "character development" (I'm pretty sure a few days back you read this same topic of mine under a different comment chain.) I'm not calling the new God of War totally mindless or not artistic, but it's only a step above the surface level (easy to recognize) and what makes it worse regards how the actual art goes over the heads of the pretentious critics, leading them to view it as shallow.
In terms of making this video I honestly can't say whether I'll get to it or not, because with me I have so many topics to write about that I don't if I can ever get to them all or at least at the level of quality I wish to maintain. There's more than just making him crying folks, If you look closely at Broly's perspective, he blames Goku for ruining his life by being executed from King Vegeta and being a laughing stock to the other Saiyans, and it makes sense due to him yelling Kakarot and do you know why he yells Kakarot a lot, he yells at his name because he will never forget that a low class warrior like Goku deserve to live but a powerful Saiyan like Broly gets executed and make him suffer with PTSD for decades, that's why i always found Evil Broly interesting and he always was.
And most of all, Broly hating on Vegeta really doesn't make sense from some folks claim to be because Vegeta have nothing to do anything with Broly at all, it was King Vegeta's choice to execute and exiled Broly not Vegeta, i find that really stupid for Paragus to hate on Vegeta just because he's KIng Vegeta's son, it doesn't cut out for me, even Vegeta said to himself in the DBS Broly movie quote "Don't be ridiculous, this isn't my business"
But everything you said about the Super Broly movie was spot on, i watched the movie in the movie theaters, i love it but i was a bit disappointed because i hate now these days were everything needs to rebooted, Toriyama said that he will give a new take on the character and hope it won't disappoint the fans, Not to bash Toriyama in anyway but he kinda did, i just think it was unnecessary because Broly is already a great
character, i wish he made DBZ Broly canon and just continue his story and maybe explain why Broly is The Legendary Super Saiyan and why he is who he is, I've just want him to dive deep into his backstory and maybe explain his take of why Broly really hates Goku but to me it's definitely gotta be Broly hating Goku so much because he blames him for being executed since that's why Broly remembers everything because he does have PTSD since people with PTSD tend to remember the tragic events that happened to them in the past, and sometimes they're anger gets the best of them.

Thanks for the compliment and I'm glad you enjoyed my video. I will say when it comes to the canon of Dragon Ball, it honestly doesn't matter to me many of my favorite scenes from the franchise were entirely comprised of filler.
I will add that the crying serves as a completely different significance than what everyone thinks, as it represent Goku and Broly's first clash. In Bardock the Father of Goku a scientist stated that Goku had the cry of great warrior, which Broly instinctively recognized, so Goku's cries at Broly represented him challenging the infant born with a power level of 10,000 for who's the stronger saiyan.

Akira Toriyama re-creating Broly for the DBS Movie said Broly would not be as muscular as old Broly anymore. So the final DBS form of Broly is a normal SSJ that has no eyes anymore. In this movie, Broly was supposed to become just an SSJ, but Toei-Animation's Animator added an extra makeover for Broly, which was based on Broly from DBZ. Dbs broly isn't intelligent at all and people can't use him being on vampa his whole life, goku only knew gohan and knew how to conversate fine and was aware of what he and others were doing he just lacked social skills. The reason broly got hurt by goku was because he was concentrating to much energy and goku saved the power he got to use it in one hit, that one hit punctured brolys stomach and all of his ki was released at one time making him explode it's the same as if you were to shoot a Grande it would exploded under the pressure.

In regards to the crying scene I realized a greater meaning behind it in which they represent a young Goku's willpower (fighting spirit). Broly's strength innately breaks (silences) people; think how his legendary super saiyan transformation caused an adult Vegeta to lose his will to fight, well with Goku Broly's power failed to silence his cries thus meaning that the former could dominate his weaker opposite ie Broly's disdain for Goku stems from the fact that the latter never cowers before him, not from an annoyance of his cries.

Fantastic vid, man. I really agree with what you said at minute seven, Broly redeemed the Saiyan race and the Legend of the Super Saiyan. Saiyans aren't nice and kind hearted, the reason why they worked so well for Frieza's conquering crusades was because on average they had the mindset of a brute, primitive grunt that loves fighting (the mentally challenging jobs such as medics and mechanics were performed by other weaker but smarter species); as showed in the Bardock movie (another great movie) were Saiyans are mostly sadistic and proud, even Bardock was cold hearted and he was one of the mentally advanced ones. Ol' Broly as the Super Saiyan, as you said, took every trademark aspect of the race and maxed it out, to a point were even the King and the King's son feared the Legend (Vegeta rightfully paralyzed in fear). The Broly movie itself brilliantly retconned the concept of the Super Saiyan Legend: After Goku turned into SSJ in Namek, the assumption was that he was the SSJ. Then Vegeta and literally everyone was a SSJ and the concept was retconned for the bad; at last, the Broly movie revealed that the Super Saiyan Legend was real, and that, in Namek, Goku forced the transformation on himself through training and struggle despite he wasn't destined to get it (highlighting the core value of struggle from DB and DBZ). The flashbacks of ol' Broly are also brilliant (him deestroying a city laughing incontrollably, he respectfully addressing Paragus the night he put the mind controller on, even through he showed no respect for him during his brutal sprees), along the ki explosion at the end really showed that Broly himself was a victim of the Legend of the Super Saiyan, made it look more like a curse.
Not to mention the intimidation factor and brutal fightstyle that you explained

You further proved my point by referencing the crying. In Bardock the father of Goku it was that said an infant Goku had the cry of a great warrior, and the movie Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan expanded upon that concept, where Broly being the natural battle hungry warrior recognized Goku's potential through his cries, and desiring a fight Broly responded with his own. To further clarify the significance of infant Goku's crying, it had no effect on Broly, he would have ended up the way he did regardless of meeting Goku or not, this sequence was intended to symbolize their battle as both were so young neither could yet control their body.
So yeah external influences probably overwrote your memories and flanderized your perception of the original Broly. By the way current actions largely overweigh increasingly irrelevant backstories. Kenpachi wasn't great because of his backstory, he was great because of what he did in the present time, and the same goes for the original Broly.

Keep in mind the original broly had a reason to be stronger this guy was literally blowing up planets for sport when he looked to be goku's' age while the new one was chasing bugs really

Man the whole point was that broly is what a saiyan suppost to be but to the perfection. From the legendary super saiyan form from the legend, to a warrior brutal and savage that only live to fight character.

You explained perfectly why Broly is an amazing villain, because, you can truly feel the sense of menace, monstruosity and unbashed evilness around him, no one could challenge him, no one could run away from him and when Paragus tried to calm him, he gouged out his eye. The whole fight on New Vegeta was just Broly wiping the floor with the main crew, and as a kid, I was seriously afraid he would have murdered them. The new Broly is cool yeah, but he totally lacks the general atmosphere of Old Broly. Like, Goku and Vegeta knew that Broly wasn't a menace so they just left the battlefield to learn how to do the fusion and they had all the time of the World, on the other hand, if they fought Old Broly, he would have either destroyed the planet or hunted them down until he found them.

@@lonelyboyadventurer1033 💯 facts. Recently, it seems like people like nuanced and humanized villains more and I also like them but to me what really makes a good villain are the general atmosphere he creates when he's around other characters. Two villains that do this really well are Omni man from Invincible and the Major from Hellsing (The Major is probably my favorite anime villain ).

Finally someone with a good opinion. I've kept saying it all this time that the new Broly is trash and that the old is GOAT, but explaining this to fanatics who have their heads so far up TOEI's asses is a colossal waste of time. They will always say that Goku crying being a trigger for Broly's PTSD is stupid and always say that this should've never upset Broly. Their reasoning is that a normal adult would just walk out of a room if they had to listen to a baby crying loudly for hours (so we're comparing baby Broly to an adult human, impeccable). Last time I checked, Saiya-jins remember everything from the day they're born, even as infants, which is why infiltration babies are a thing and why Goku was going to originally wipe out Earth's population, if not for head trauma, which resulted in his amnesia. In addition to that, Saiya-jins are far less emotional and kill without remorse, so why would Broly develop enough forgiveness to forgive Goku for upsetting him so much in his infant days, when he's meant to represent the primal Saiya-jin warrior? Broly haters can't understand that. They also don't understand how the whole DBS Broly backstory makes no sense and creates a whole bunch of plotholes, for example, Broly when meeting Goku and Vegeta got instantly angry at them for no reason, because Paragus told him so. Why would Broly get so angry at someone he's never connected with or met before in his life? Why does Paragus have a scar if he has kept Broly under control this whole time? The scar was a great reason why Paragus feared Broly so much in the original movie, yet in the DBS stupidity it has zero reason for existence other than pointless homage.
There are many more numerous issues with the movie, but it will always get undeserved praise for things like "great animation" or "epic battles" or "it caters to the new fans of Dragon Ball (I don't understand why does Dragon Ball need this? I'd think that capturing the interest of their veteran fans would be of bigger value than new people who don't know jack about the story, but whatever. It's a great example of why Dragon Ball Super sucks - it caters to the clueless too much at the expense of veteran fans)". Modern Dragon Ball disgusts me and it makes me sad. Thank god the old series still exist.

I appreciate the compliment and funny story, I actually wrote a video on the true purpose of Goku's crying not too long ago. To summarize my points Goku's crying embodied the spirit of a great unbreakable warrior, as said by the guards stationed in his nursery, "that boy's got guts for crying in the presence of such a strong person" and Broly's innate power could break people's spirits (silence them) like how it later did with an Vegeta, but Broly's power couldn't silence/break Goku, hence why he despises him. I explain it in greater detail in my other video, but I thought I'd include this anyway.
To me the Dragon Ball community used to be one of the best fandoms, but it got destroyed fragmentation (all the extra additions). Like fans of Kai (who mostly haven't seen DBZ) have to trash the original for dragging on despite the fact those were some of the best scenes. Team Four Star also inflicted major damage as their biased opinions have overwritten many fan's fond memories and lead them to parrot out what the abridged said as true.

Good points! and funny story later on I learned that in Japan they hold a superstition that the louder a newborn cries signifies how strong-willed an adult they will grow up to be. Basically the scene itself represents how Goku's crying meant that he didn't fear the baby with a power level of 10,000 and that's what bothered the latter, not the noise itself.

Z Broly's fit was way better. Dude looked regal and zen at the same time. Like a monk with some sick bling. Then bam, he's a ruthless killer. However, I would say that Super's story was way better and interesting. But no clue why they made him look like Tarzan as a football player with the Joker's color palette..
