This was a terrific video for anyone who has an interest in Opal cutting. I am new to this but I think the same way when I paint pictures. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot more from this one video than I have from a hundred others. The shape, the centering that colour, the focal points. It's a true work of Art.

It would be easy to leave it as is, but the expert eye sees and understands things that others don’t. You took a beautiful and expensive stone to an even more beautiful and expensive place and did a damn good job at it.

I appreciate the extended info before the cutting started but I think people might like it more if you presented some of that as voiceover while cutting! I was tempted to just skip to the end to see the finished product. Which, by the way, what a stone. I liked the explanation at the end

I am watching a lot of the Opal cutting videos that I watched last year for a second and in some cases a 3rd time, and am beginning to understand a bit more about the HOW and WHY the gems are being cut, not only to maximize the value but also the beauty and color etc.
One video in particular on The Opal Mills channel really highlighted the issue. Phil had a stone that had been appraised for something like (and I don’t remember exactly the numbers) maybe around $2000 but was worth considerably more - IF it had been cut correctly. Phil recut the Opal, placing the setting line correctly for the jeweler, evening and centering the dome, which placed the color squarely in the center and ultimately WAS more pleasing to the eye.
The first time I watched this video I was more taken with the color of this gem, it really is a rare gem indeed, but what you did with it, recutting it, centering the color and repairing the shape of the gem….
It is testimony to your professionalism and the care with which you handle your trade.
I really do appreciate your content, and the fact that you shared this with us. You, and Phil, and Justin really don’t have to do this. You guys could just make videos highlighting the gems and not really share with us the hows and whys etc. The information and time you guys share really is priceless to someone who wants to.
    So thank you sir.
And I wish the very best for you.

💯! 🤔 I’m wondering how many of the arm chair critics, buy the ‘Freeform’ ugly stones.
Opinions are a lot cheaper than black opal after all.
Freeform stones almost always have to have a jewellery piece designed around each individual stone -and end up with a extremely limited clientele. Better off ugly and stuck in a safe somewhere because no one wants it? Why dig it up in the first place?
Btw absolutely beautiful result. You obviously have the passion and the skills of an artist! Congratulations!

The "mystique" is its past. The bravery in taking it to its perfect state is its own inheritance. Cannot get any better and well worth the effort; the brilliance to figure it out and the craftsmanship to make it happen should be documented when it is sold (and for lots more $ it's to be hoped...16+ carats of astonishment - if I had the kind of $ to buy it Id ask how much for the video that shows how it was to start, or at least the last one to see what was done to it to make that fabulous result!) Museum piece for sure. Now a crystal one about the same size, please?
