Chris Chaney is an amazing player. Always had a lot of respect for him. As far as the action goes, people who are hating on that topic: you do realize that these guitars are meant to be adjusted, hence him mentioning it in the video? Second, he most likely PREFERS high action himself. A professional bass player who has been in the business for over 30 years would not come in to fender’s studio and not have the basses he is about to demo not be set up to his specifications.
Bought the American Elite Precision Bass last February. It is a joy to play. Such a versatile and beautiful sounding instrument. I can't wait to get home from work and find some time to play every evening.
Just got one myself in Chamaigne, its like night and day from my Fender MIM bass. which yano the made in mexico ones have an awesome rep. but ye. oh wow.
most underrated bass player out there. Oh and js, I don't understand at all why Jane's can't make more music? I mean I know Dave has the whole tattoo show, but that doesn't take up the whole year. they could totally make new, really good music if they wanted to
Those pickups sound so weird. I'm used to hearing a plucking noise from the player's fingers, but this isn't that. I thought for a second that it was a weird effect from the amplifier or something.
I read an interview some time ago and he said he always raises the action to avoid buzz and get better sustain. Most studio artists use a very high action, it seems.
Can't decide between the Professional or the Elite series. I love true single coil pickups (in middle position) but also love active eq. I guess I can simply install true single coils in this bass?
I love this blue Precision., but it is not on the Fender Web-Site. Anybody know if this is a " One of a Kind " ... or Fender is simply late in advertising it on their We-Site?
They don't even sell this model no more they got the American Ultra series and American Performer series at Guitar Center. And then there is a couple of Squier Fender basses there too.
They sell elites. They replaced the Deluxe line but elites are most certainly still being produced. Goes custom shop, ultra, elite, professional, performer, etc.
Love Fender Basses. Been playing since the early 70's. The Elite series looks good but WHY do you keep using the crappy, cheap looking Fender logo on the headstock of a $2K instrument?? Pre-CBS and CBS logo's always worked and retained some vintage ...
That truss rod wheel has been around for a long time. Dont understand why its not more widely used? Most basses theres the truss rod cover and poking an allen key into a dark hole.
I've got the elite Jazz. Love it to play but the bridge pickup has failed twice. It's been back once and they said nothing wrong with it :( shame cos the neck is amazing.
I own a P BASS ELITE .. great instrument. Only bad thing about this instruments is.. they cost $2000 us dollar and i can still hear the annoying ground issue.. notice in all video Chris didn't let the strings go.. if he did the ground noise is going to show. check the noise on 4:59 this is annoying for such expensive instrument.. FENDER .. put some of the cheap black conductor paint in all of your guitars PLEASE.. I don't have this problem on any of my MUSIC MAN BASSES
No grounding issue on my P Bass Elite. even with a distortion pedal on. you must have a ground loop on your rig or your P bass wiring has something not quite right.
Hi fender. Can you please make a demo of the fender jazz bass with a pick, where the player doesn't mute the strings or play like he doesn't want to be heard. Jazz bass is a great rock bass but noone on youtube shows it off. Everyone either demos with fingers or mutes the strings with a pick. Distortion isn't necessary. I've watched like 40 videos now and can't find a single one to show a friend.
Meanwhile, I’m still over here wondering what happened to the American Standard series. Maybe I just suck at going through their mobile site? I dunno...
Why not get a six string, oh because then you would be a guitar player not a bass player, no one really needs a five string unless they have a tiny microscopic penis.
Louis Batsford What about the bassist of Dream theater? If someone likes to have versatility with a 6 string bass, good on them. What’s wrong with it? As both a guitar and bass player, I can assure you that my 6 and 7 string guitars and my 5 string bass are completely different. And having extended range instruments are very useful and help you come up with unique ideas. Don’t get so butt hurt my guy.
Dream theatre are great musicians with crap songs their sound isn't very good. If someone said why not listen to dream theatre, I'd say because I'd rather listen to tool, Soundgarden, pearl jam, mudhoney, Alice in chains, metallica, pink Floyd , Neu, Can , Faust , pink Floyd, Earth or Radiohead as they all have a better sound and more memorable songs, the best I can say about dream theatre is that they are boring, I can't get that animated about disliking them,. and as for 7-8 string guitar , Matt pike does it better in high on fire with just three musicians. Mostly having 7 string is saying I'm compensating for having s mangina.
Played a ocean colored elite jazz and really liked to looks. However up close in my hands it really didn’t feel and look like a $2K instrument. Same with the American Standard. I had a chance to trade my StingRay Classic for the same one I tried out but didn’t because my StingRay looks and feels like a $2K instrument.
they should really stop building basses with nickel frets, stainless steel frets are much better, guitars should be built with nickel frets, and they are which is good, the only reason why i believe this is because the bass strings are like 2x as bigger then the guitar strings and they have more mass against these nickel frets, which can wear at them fairly quickly
I was reading up on this recently and evidently, a number of bass luthiers have tried steel frets on basses and ultimately decided to stop using them for a number of reasons including them being more difficult to work with. Fortunately, nickel and steel aren’t the only options. Different alloys exist, EVO Gold for example.
I love fender basses and telecasters, my first bass was a 61 jazz bass and a 61 Telecaster and i love the PJ set up, i have always been a fan of Leo and that's why i moved to a Musicman after leo sold fender, but these basses sound great, it's to bad the bass player is not very good and he uses a felt pick, common give me a brake !!!!!!!! and Leo invented the Truss rod wheel and put it on Music Man Basses and won awards for that !!
Lol, while you're playing in your local bar band (if that) and collecting guitars, Chaney's been touring the world with Jane's Addiction, Alanis Morissette and doing session work with a veritable who's who of music. Take a look at his crib, that's how good he is.
G Well... I'm not knocking Chaney *specifically*, but in fairness, fame and money don't necessarily equate to talent or respectable musicianship. Look at the pop charts for a hefty number of examples... Again, nothing against Chaney, and *certainly* not equating him to Top 40 hacks, just sayin'.
+SGD Myrddin No, but in the case of Chaney, just read his bio, he's a Berklee grad, a session musician who has recorded with everyone from Cher, Joe Cocker, Celine Dion, et al. He does film work, he's the real deal. With this in mind, the OP's "he's not very good" comment is straight up laughable.
You know you're chatting shit. If you want to sound like a fusion guy you play like a fusion guy. It's not down to the bass. Yes, the bass helps, but it's all down to the fingers my friend.
can i tell you right now...i own a american elite P bass.....bought a sire v7 jazz 5.....sold it within a month, the sire sounds great but the playibility is terrible.
@@sitocastro I second that!! In Feburary 2018 I bought a new Fender American Elite Jazz with 5 strings and in tobacco sunburst. Not only is it gorgeous but plays so well.

This was the most persuasive bass demo/ad I've ever seen. Take my money.

I'm a guitar player but when it comes to jazz basses 😍

the new champagne color is amazing
The new bass player for AC/DC!! He even subtly predicted it at 3:17...
Natural (and real) electric bass evolution. Appreciated.
Best bass I've ever put my fingers on. No joke, so much warmth, almost incredible to have that much warmth !
My mans got that half inch string height
I got the Elite Jazz Bass.. sold all my basses! This one is so versatile!!
This has got to be the biggest bunch of haters ever ensembles. That Jazz sounds absolutely beautiful smdh
And the C to D neck shape feels like a dream
Good lord, that P bass has got me all needy. What a beauty.
most underrated bass player out there. Oh and js, I don't understand at all why Jane's can't make more music? I mean I know Dave has the whole tattoo show, but that doesn't take up the whole year. they could totally make new, really good music if they wanted to
Wow, that's quite an upgrade, sounds great, and looks sweet.
He got me to buy this bass. I'm a drummer
I like the house
It sounds like heaven to me!
Was that jazz in a shoreline gold? it looks so good!
Both of the basses are absolutely gorgeous and I wish I could afford one, but I guess I'm stuck with my trusty upright bass from the school
Nice looking bass and it has a clean tone, Fender is a good choice
I believe i buy this Fender Elite Jazz Bass, so good sound...
Finally Fender gets a bass demo right!
Great job by Chris on this demo. They should definitely have him demo their other models.
Sorry, he got some very nice tones but way too much talk. Like a Sears appliance salesman.
at 4:54 it looks like a neck that has never seen a set up. Or does everyone play with action that high?
The bass sounds and looks amazing but damn that's one hell of a High action
Dat PJ...
Those pickups sound so weird. I'm used to hearing a plucking noise from the player's fingers, but this isn't that. I thought for a second that it was a weird effect from the amplifier or something.
HE HAS THE TONE HIGHS DOWN, THE ACTION IS HIGH AND HEAVY STRINGS AND HE IS USING A FELT PICK MUCH OF THE TIME. BUT WHAT DO I KNOW, I AM A NOBODY !!!!
Between felt pick and maybe a bit of technique by Chris ....that may explain it.
Ah Dollar i
He just described the custom hack J basses I made 10 years ago - nice of Fender to catch up and overprice them ~
theothertroll what do you expect? It's a big company
Is it just me or is the action really high on both basses?
I was thinking the same thing. at 18 seconds it looks like you could limbo under the strings.
Ikr!? But then again, i feel like the high action could help with like harmonics or a slightly more funky throaty kind of sound.
in fact i never played a fender bass with low action lol
I read an interview some time ago and he said he always raises the action to avoid buzz and get better sustain. Most studio artists use a very high action, it seems.
Some people like it high. Just remember it's not a bad thing, it's a matter of preference.
Bought my American deluxe P in 1997, paid $879. It was too of the line for its day. Why must Fender charge so much now? Love my Sire V7!
Legit bass player
What amp is he using ?
Are these new 2017 model?
I can't see color of those
Can't decide between the Professional or the Elite series. I love true single coil pickups (in middle position) but also love active eq. I guess I can simply install true single coils in this bass?
Elite.
and te bst thing, you dont even have to switch on the amp.
I love this blue Precision., but it is not on the Fender Web-Site. Anybody know if this is a " One of a Kind " ... or Fender is simply late in advertising it on their We-Site?
I've seen a few go up on Reverb.
Thanks Kyle, I have seen them as well since I posted my remark. All the best !!
Who's house is that?
Does anyone know what kind of mic that is on the cabinet?
They don't even sell this model no more they got the American Ultra series and American Performer series at Guitar Center. And then there is a couple of Squier Fender basses there too.
They sell elites. They replaced the Deluxe line but elites are most certainly still being produced. Goes custom shop, ultra, elite, professional, performer, etc.
Chris rolls.
As does the summertime.
Love Fender Basses. Been playing since the early 70's. The Elite series looks good but WHY do you keep using the crappy, cheap looking Fender logo on the headstock of a $2K instrument?? Pre-CBS and CBS logo's always worked and retained some vintage ...
This a modern instrument, thus you get the modern logo.
So are the pickups true single coil?
The Jazz Bass pickups are.
That truss rod wheel has been around for a long time. Dont understand why its not more widely used? Most basses theres the truss rod cover and poking an allen key into a dark hole.
I've got the elite Jazz. Love it to play but the bridge pickup has failed twice. It's been back once and they said nothing wrong with it :( shame cos the neck is amazing.
seems like you have a misunderstanding of pickups...
Gimme, gimme, gimme 😃
To whomever bought this bass… did you change the pickups?
I think I'm in love..
Why fender did away with the truss wheel on the ultra serise is beyond me.
they also removed string through option, the cost is probably cheaper to produce Ultra series now.
I own a P BASS ELITE .. great instrument. Only bad thing about this instruments is.. they cost $2000 us dollar and i can still hear the annoying ground issue..

21frets FINALLY
That PJ needs to have block inlays and a 5 string counterpart.
absolutely!!!!
geekguitars Block inlays on a P-bass is a crime against humanity.
Steve Synan I think u have a point there...looks like someone in 1976 hating on the 60ies, lol
@@stevesynan3241 Except Fender makes the 70's inspired P-basses with block inlays to match the J-basses of the same era.

Now he's AC DC's new bass player!
Meanwhile, I’m still over here wondering what happened to the American Standard series. Maybe I just suck at going through their mobile site? I dunno...
Pandoras Flame they got replaced with the american professional series
that neck needs a tweak lol... anyone else noticed how high the action was?
If only that pj came in a 5 string version...
king5697 - I know right. Why wouldn't that be done by now
Why not get a six string, oh because then you would be a guitar player not a bass player, no one really needs a five string unless they have a tiny microscopic penis.

Louis Batsford Tosin Abasi. Nuff said, dude.
That action is higher than Willie Nelson boi!

The "Elite Battery Eater".
Don't mute the fucking strings I want to hear that precision pick up !!
"bypass the engineer" - don't do this
Although great features, most pros still stick to their vintage gear... why is that?
Get ready to pound the money making first 6 frets on the E with AC DC
Slap?
Sonically...
Doesn't sound much different from the player series
the action is just too damn high
Left hand Bass left hand Bass
4:52 that action is disgusting
meanwhile i have a pbass copy with gfs pickups and a master volume no tone....

Is it me or that jazz sounds like a cheap Ibanez ?
Le C it's just you
I have a cheap ibanez bass. Your absolutely right. 🤣
it's you!
Probably the 18v preamp
I’ll stick to my Sadowsky thanks
Ok, who fucking cares.
Damn that is some sky high action. Deal breaker for me.
I mean, basses were made to be set up so...
Haha what? You know that action can be adjusted right?
yeap high action for those big manly bass players - not for small guys with little hands.... love it!!!!
I got used to high action so it's ok for me
massivebeatzz lol small guys? I'm 5'11" 205 pounds and I could break your hand if we shook hands. My gosh, so many know it all's these days.

Nice try, but Marcus Miller basses still better and cheaper
lol...are you joking? they are chinese made, not great at all... they compare to MIM PJ special basses....
can i tell you right now...i own a american elite P bass.....bought a sire v7 jazz 5.....sold it within a month, the sire sounds great but the playibility is terrible.
Stick to your end of the fretboard buddy, leave the other end for the guitar players
He's playing with pick which doesn't give the tone I would want to hear
bad hair
Mass produced, cheaply made, and costs 3 times as much as it’s really worth IMO. Nothing they make excites me.
Justin Mays I’ve got one these elite jazz basses and trust me it doesn’t feel mass produced or cheap in any way. Great recording bass too.

Shon M - Because some people play instruments because their drawn to their sound. The bass has a magnificent sound
