Screen Junkies I didn't even realize that Wes Anderson repeated a lot of the same story beats in his own movies. This was so funny. Especially the very specific descriptions of moments from his movies. 😂
That line pretty much nailed it. Seriously, try to describe any of his movies to someone. It's easy if they've seen one of his movies and damn near impossible if they haven't.
Because he does tell really unique stories, he just has a particular style when he does it. The common elements like love triangles, disaffected siblings, and plans going wrong are tropes you can find in almost every movie, not just Wes Anderson's.
Well think of it like music. Take Simon and Garfunkel for example, across every song and album they: have folky guitars, vocal harmonies, bouncy rhythms, lyrics about love, loss or a mixture of the two, sombre tones. Their style is consistent, but you wouldn't necessarily say that any one song or album sounds exactly like the other.
One thing you've gotta love about Wes Anderson: When most directors make a movie they say to the press "I only got 150 million dollars to spend on it so of course I couldn't make a good movie!" but when they randomly gave Wes Anderson 80 million to spend on The Grand Budapest Hotel he used it to enrich and layer and beautify the world the characters inhabit in an already layered, rich, beautifully well-crafted story.
It's because Wes Anderson creates these whimsical worlds and the low budget just works in them. He saves a lot of money with shots of doll houses or whacky animations. That type of the filmmaking works in his movies, but it would never work in a more serious movie. Imagine how distracting it would be if you saw an obvious model of the house in a more grounded and serious movie? It would ruin the whole experience.
Civil War as directed by Wes Anderson: A tale of two disaffected superheroes, the frozen caveman soldier one of them loves, and a meticulously planned evil master plan that causes everything to go wrong.
Every time a new Wes Anderson film comes out, I say "Well this is the most Wes-Anderon-y movie that Wes Anderson has made yet" and then he proves me wrong.
Isle of Dogs is a tale of a disaffected young ward, the dog he loves and a meticulously planned rescue that goes wrong. It stars shots of writing, Bill Murray, overhead shots of objects, character explaining elaborate plans, uniforms, characters with dead parents, Ed Norton, estranged siblings, dead animals, stage plays, Angelica Huston, old-timey telephones, moving vehicles, facial wounds and Ed Norton explaining an elaborate plan with Bill Murray involving a possibly dead animal on a moving vehicle.
The next wes anderson film: Bill murray smoking in front of a foreigner in front of an oil painting playing a rock song near his sibling punching a wilson brother in the face with an exotic animal while a stop motion willem dafoe calls help from a old timey phone to a police officer in a uniform that was born in the wrong decade.
Just what I was thinking! This actually shows a pretty deep knowledge of his movies and tropes. I think there might be a secret hipster or two at Screen Junkies...
This video is surprisingly filled with love and warm feelings towards this director, even though the style is the same as in all those other honest trailers where there are only sarcasm and cynicism. Amazing.
"Characters explaining elaborate plans": It would be fascinating to see how Wes Anderson himself plans his films and to what extent they resemble the elaborate plans featured in his films!

There's a reason this is the best honest trailer ever made. When you have amazing source material to work with of course you're going to have a good end product. Wes Anderson movies are some of the best made flicks from the past couple decades.
No. Fast and the Furious 1-37 are the same movies. Harry Pothead movies are all the same. Bond movies are the same. Wes Anderson movies are uniquely individual stories each set in their own distinct, highly detailed worlds, which certainly share common themes, but are by no means structured beat for beat with the exact similarity like many other franchises.
@ Jupiter Rising Have you actually seen a Wes Anderson Movie, or did you just watch the video? Also, did you arrive at this conclusion before or after the honest trailer?
Jupiter Rising simiar themes do not equate to the “same movie eight times.” Try actually watching his filmography and get back to me if you still think that, rather than basing your opinion on a joke video by a RUclips channel that exists solely to poke fun at/nitpick popular films.

Asteroid City: The tale of a disaffected photojournalist, the actress he loves, and a meticulously planned science convention that goes wrong. It stars overhead shots of objects, stage plays, a funeral, facial wounds, zooms, whip pans, shots of typewritten letters, characters explaining elaborate plans, whimsical names, characters with dead parents, Willem Dafoe, uniforms, old timey telephones, Jason Schwartzman, moving vehicles, Ed Norton, profile shots, and Jason Schwartzman talking about characters with dead parents on an old timey telephone while wearing what could possibly be a uniform.
I love you, I was looking for this exact comment.
also, dead animals (girls played with a snake), smoking, foreigners, classic rock songs, siblings, exotic(ish) animals, tape recorders.
Guys, this one is so freaking incredible! Best you've done in months! Great work!
Finally ALL IN ONE!!!!!
This is a piece of art all in itself, thank you so much
The whip pans are honestly one my favorite things about Anderson’s movies, though that I’m probably not special since everyone loves them.
Say: “the inner mechinations of my mind are an enigma”
Hot Cosby
Spilled milk?
machinations*
FYI if you spell it wrong, he'll pronounce it wrong on purpose, lol
RIP Spongebob.
"FYI, if you spell it wrong, he'll pronounce it wrong on purpose, lol"
I can definitely hear that in my head now.
BOOM, you got your comment picked up, brah
That has got to be one of the best STARRINGS ever done!
Good job!
There's a reason this is the best honest trailer ever made.
When you have amazing source material to work with of course you're going to have a good end product. Wes Anderson movies are some of the best made flicks from the past couple decades.
It's basically the same movie eight times.
Lol okay, sure buddy.
@ Jupiter Rising
Have you actually seen a Wes Anderson Movie, or did you just watch the video? Also, did you arrive at this conclusion before or after the honest trailer?
Jupiter Rising simiar themes do not equate to the “same movie eight times.” Try actually watching his filmography and get back to me if you still think that, rather than basing your opinion on a joke video by a RUclips channel that exists solely to poke fun at/nitpick popular films.
a film about a drama club at hogwarts by wes anderson. that has to happen
it's called rushmore
It’s a play called Puffs
This is one of the *GREATEST* Honest Trailers *EVAR* !
Completely lost it at 'your barista's favorite director'
That's legit me and i'm not even mad, I'm actually the stereotype and happy to be hahahaha so good
Had to rewind multiple times in between laughing fits this is amazing thankyou
With that name and picture, you're like a Wes Anderson character and I'm sure that makes you happy.
Yeah that was my favorite line until I heard "brown subordinate".
Friend: so what genre of movies what do you like?
Me: wes anderson * punches him in the face*
Han Solo * to dead parents
*get punched back in the face*
*crowd shouted "Oooohh"*
The French dispatch
The tale of a disaffected branch magazine staff . Vignettes showing one of them in love and a meticulously planned farewell issue that goes oddly right.
This is probably my favorite honest trailer ever!😂 the “starring” had me in tears!
I’m so excited for Isle of Dogs
Same
MegaSoulHero it’s really good
MegaSoulHero I'll wait until Isle of Dogs is in more theaters until I see it.
Yeah, then Fox decided to cut down it's distribution.
@Jon Ericson That was the stupidest thing they could have done.
This may just may, be Screen Junkies Magnum Opus.
It's 2023, Asteroid City just came out, and this video still holds true lol
Best. Starring. EVER.
Those whip pans made my eyes hurt.
They make me nauseated as well, I wish they weren’t there.
I'm so glad I don't get motion sickness from movies.
That's what happens when you put a bunch of them back to back lol!
Me every time I watch a marvel action scene
It's meant for the movies
Glad to see Darjeeling Limited featured prominently in this trailer. My favorite, and in my opinion, the most underrated Wes Anderson film.
Every last WA film is so vastly overrated it boggles the mind.
@@scottslotterbeck3796 Ah Scott. That person on comments who feels the need to comment twenty times about how you're *wrong* for having a personal taste. Scotty don't be so insecure.
Bottle Rocket on a Train. I adore Wes Anderson, and I think it's his worst movie.
Nice scenery, decent actors and good production values can cover up a weak plot. The only memorable scene is the river rescue and the village.
Being from Darjeeling, that movie is the closest thing that'll be a global representation of my hometown, and the actual town is not even in the movie. I'm still proud, I guess.
I feel like peak directing is when you have your own distinct style that people make fun of online
Possibly the most hipster comment in this section ??
@@vice.nor.virtue I guess? You ever heard of Auteurship? That’s kinda what I was getting at before I knew what that was
@@renmakesthings8106 Thanks for the new word! I didn't know that yet. The part when you said "make fun of online" is so ambiguous in it's irony (or not/0 that I can't tell what you're trying to say.
"...with the help of a brown subordinate/love interest...." I had to pause there for a moment because I laughed so hard at the montage!
Rushmore might just be my favorite movie of all time. It was one of my favorites when I was a kid, and every time I've rewatched it as I've grown older, I've appreciated it more and more. The characters are all fantastic, the soundtrack is perfectly fitting, the acting and cinematography and spot-on. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
Was that the one about the disaffected youth, his disaffected mentor, the teacher they are both in love with and the meticulously planned revenge plot that goes wrong?
Nah that was the other one about the disaffected youth, his disaffected mentor, the teacher they are both in love with and the meticulously planned revenge plot that goes wrong?.
Yes, although the revenge plot is actually only a small part of the story.
I loved that film, and WA did it 7 more times. I love the Scot or Irish Guy he shot with a bee bee rifle.
Always thought it was some lame crap from the cover. Will take your word for it and check it out
This may be my favorite Starring you guys have ever done...so funny, thanks for the laughs
