I hadn't played STO for about 7 years before I started it back up in January of 2024. I am enjoying the new story content I hadn't played before and some of the new ships and challenges. The daily challenges aren't too difficult. There's a gamma recruitment event right now October 20th to start a Dominion character, I say if you have the time, jump on in.
Release cadence of new story slowed down, but quality improved quite a bit. If you liked it before, you will probably like it now too. Still totally playable for free if you are willing to grind.
