Couldn't be happier with my 7950X. Absolute monster, no issues whatsoever driving my orchestral template. I can load hundreds of VSL, Spitfire, Orchestral Tools instruments, along with MIR Pro 3D, and tons of plugins, all without breaking a sweat. I haven't even seen it push past 60% usage, which is incredible. I had a 13900KF for a while but it gave me nothing but headaches with Cubase. Switching to AMD was the best decision I made, especially after the news of Intel CPUs degrading.

I just went through a nightmare of stability issues and crashes with an i9 13900K. It was replaced by Intel under warranty but I sold it and switched to an AMD 7950X3D and Asus Proart x670E motherboard. I've had zero problems since. It works perfect with my Universal Audio Apollo x8 interface via USB4/Thunderbolt and my RME Fireface UFX II via USB. My second recording system is an Intel i7 12700K and MSI MEG ACE Z690 with another Apollo x8 and it also works great, no issues. So, in my experience, the cutoff for Intel reliability and stability is the 12th gen; or just stick with AMD.

I'm on a Ryzen 5900 (12c/24T) and it's quiet and fast. With a 300 track orchestra template I'm barely pushing it. Honestly I don't think CPU power or rather speed is the problem nowadays. The thing to note about early observations of the Intel microcode fix is that it appears to force idle behaviours at points. That could be really bad for us, since there are so many power-saving features that can wreck an audio enthusiast's fun and there are so many fixes for our issues that involve raising minimum performance, stopping USB sleep states, etc. I wouldn't think twice and just buy AMD CPUs right now, although as you say something from the 7000s is almost certainly a better buy than the 9000s unless the 9900/9950s turn out to be especially great.

While I would love to build a PC due to my new wish for portability I’m gravitating towards a M4 Max that hopefully releases later this year, after my amazing experience with the iPad Pro M4 (amazing feeling piece of engineering)
With sidecar that would make a very good dual screen portable setup that is expandable (iPad with cellular for most tasks and the Macbook Pro for advanced DAW duties)
Thinking of the 128gb of ram as well so I can have multiple instances of Kontakt running for orcheastral cues and at least 2TB for storage so the life of the internal SSD is longer (at the price for that machine I’m looking for at least 5 years of intensive work).

I just rebuilt my AMD-based system originally built about five years ago. It was based on an AMD Ryzen 5 2600X. It has been a rock-solid machine since day one. About a year ago, though, I decided to purchase an Intel-based laptop with an Intel i9-13900H. Needless to say, performance was not as hoped. In fact, it was no better than the old, AMD Ryzen 5 desktop. With the recent issues with the 13th and 14th generation CPUs, I decided to upgrade the desktop, and chose a 7900X -- by the numbers, it''s a little better performer than the 7850-series. I can't recommend the 7900X highly enough for a Windows-based music production system.
I have a general tendency to not buy the absolute most-recent tech devices until they've had some time in the real world to prove themselves -- I haven't money or time to throw away on stuff that's not going to work. When I build the 2600X-based system, the 3600 had already been released, but had only been out for a couple of months. Of course, there are exceptions, but they're generally purchases made for fairly specific reasons.
The performance with the Ryzen 7900X chip has thus far been really quite impressive. (Shameless plug follows) I did touch on the performance issues I had with the i9 and unveiled the upgraded AMD system briefly in the most recent live streams on my channel.
    Cheers.

I use both. The intel when I want speed and power, the M2 ultra when there's audio software not available for the PC. Apple silicon isn't the powerhouses claimed either, the Intel smokes the M2 in pretty much every DAWBench and of course the very top AMDs are now smoking the Intels for audio.

If you could reply to my previous comment I would be very happy.

    Yeah, no thanks.
AMD doesn't have anything in the price range that I got my 13700k. If you're buying an Intel chip right now you're perfectly fine. You can change things in the bios to avoid the degradation and instability. You don't even need the microcode.
    Edit:
I've read a lot about this, watched every video, read hundreds of comments. The only people recommending you jump to AMD right now are gamers with 7800x3d. As a content creator why would I listen to them. Most of them are young gamers anyway. People that actually know what they're talking about are not telling people to go to amd. They are simply saying to be cautious about Intel at the moment.

If the fix makes Intel stable long term its good for everyone. Lets hope so.

Will you be looking into Snapdragon ARM chips by any chance? There's a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x w/32gb RAM, 1TB SSD custom build for $1,341. I really wanted to get it to try it out, but now I'm thinking about getting a MAC M3 for use with Reaper. I will also be trying Logic Pro X if I get Apple. BUT, I am used to using Windows my entire life.
