Seems a good idea but they could easily have been around to tell you the gate was locked. That padlock won't stop travellers!
hi paul travellers will not break in to get in some where there rule is if some where is accessible they can stop there other wise it’s a no go if they left the gates open traveller would camp in there

One question for your upcoming Q&A vlog and the question is what were your jobs before you went full-time van life ? Keep safe and keep the camera rolling
Love Durham, we visited earlier this year. We are member of CAMC and found that Durham Amateur Rowing Club have a CL site which is just a short walk along the river from the city centre. I cant remember the cost but I do remember at the time thinking what good value it was. As a CL site it of course had water and CDP, but there was also a small cafe attached to the club so added to the ambience. We travel full time with our two labradors so stealth mode isn’t an option for us. I just don’t understand places that are not dog friendly, they must miss out on so much trade. Laughed when Chico forgot he was in stealth mode 😂

I know. Don't get why dogs can't go some places. They are part of the family. We now live in Mallorca and doggies allowed into shops and cafes. X

Great Video. I was born in Durham and you did a great job of showing the City. As you say it’s a very compact city but in my opinion that’s what it makes it unique. Take care.

Another cracking video guys. regarding nasty comments about chico stealth mode....fluff em! ( cleaned that up for the chube) Glad you didnt get locked in. Its my nightmare about being locked in . I made arrangements to meet with a mate for a night out in a place called Pheasents lake which was a fishery and cafe in the back of beyond- one of them park and buy a meal etc. I was waiting for my mate to get there and a bloke came and told me they were closing early but he'd be locking the gates til the morning. I really didnt want to stay there isolated and locked in on my own so I left and never got to meet my mate. Its good if you can get out but what if summat happens in the night and no way to get out?

Durham is magnificent, it’s connected to Lindisfarne, with St Cuthbert. You should make your way up to Lindisfarne, you can park in main car park( you can’t overnight on the island, but you can pull into the pull in place before you cross the tide, you can overnight there!)

Enjoyed my trip around Durham, it seemed quite clean and tidy 👍. You will have to get mark a cordless angle grinder for Christmas for the thicker padlock, but that one if need be could have been opened using 2 screwdriver's 👍👍😁

Great vlog from Durham guys, when you think of university’s, it’s normally Oxford or Cambridge that come to mind. I didn’t think of Durham as being a contender. Hi Lisa and Mark. Blimey when i saw you were the only people parked there, i thought you were really locked in and would have to pay. Thank god you were okay lol. Mark's obsessed with chinese food . Loved seeing the market, looked good. Durham reminds me of Lincoln with the alleyways and the cathedral , and castle. The university buildings were amazing.Also the architeture really lovely to see. Thanks for a great walk about x

You should carry on with taking Cheeko in all shops and pubs were you can, we have the same issue with our two pugs, but we have found away round it buy putting them in stroller, people love seeing them ❤

To me, they've got things absolutely perfect - despite the fear of being locked in, you can't grumble at £5 a night.. Im sure other places could do this, and it would make UK van life so much better, and mean a lot more tourism for the various spots. Another fantastic vlog! Long may it continue - we are just starting on our journey.. will upgrade to a motorhome in the next few years all being well :) all the best.. shaun and andrea

Another brilliant vlog…totally gutted that you were at Belmont park and ride and we didn’t know…we would have loved to meet you. My husband…also Mark…would even have brought you a takeaway from our local Chinese….£6.30 for chicken fried rice…but our treat if ever you pass again…we live just off the junction below the one you were near (Coxhoe). Durham is a beautiful city and fantastic cathedral….we were lucky enough to have a couple of our grandchildren christened there ! Mark , there is an all you can eat Chinese buffet down by the river. So when you were stood with your back to the castle and cathedral on the bridge . It on your right at river level.

Also I can I ask how do you both cope with stress living and working in your campervan? Have you any remedies to cope with stress? Maybe send a mug to the person who sends you both the best question?
That would be a interesting one. Find out how many parking rides in the UK allow you to stay overnight
We went to Durham and stayed overnight at nose point and had a good night sleep 💤

The Wetherspoons no dogs rule is just daft. They don't even allow them in the beer garden at our local one. Our Marston's one however does and has dog treats at the bar.

I 've told my sister in law to follow you's as they have a motor home, question coming up.. what were your jobs before you's retired and before you sold your home ?? No. The University is spread throughout the city. Administrative plus some bits of each college life are in the old bits. Heading out the majority of colleges have separate buildings. Durham, like Oxbridge, is a Collegiate University. You request a place in a College, then come together to study the different disciplines. History, Mathematics, Computers, Sciences…..the list is considerable. Each college has its own library. Then there is a huge library for all students to use in a separate building.
The river does a horse shoe bend in the city which makes the layout very confusing. I suggest you look at a map of the city, taking note of the different bridges which cross the loops of the river, before visiting. Xx

If you enrol on a cheap online, distance learning course, etc., this then qualifies you for a student discount card. I'm now in my 60s and have had student card via this method quite a few times. However, calculate if using the student card will save you more than what the cost is to buy the card & course.
It's no longer quieter in Scotland in the winter as everyone is having the same idea and all heading up here.
