Snow Removal Madness!

  • Different types of snow and ice events may require different equipment to handle the array of conditions. With this 4" snowfall, some of the snow also turned into ice, followed by freezing rain! Using the Ventrac articulating, 4 wheel drive 4520 series tractor with a KJ540 Broom and the Dozer Blade with optional Polycarbonate Blade, I'm able to clear right down to the bare surface. For deeper snow events, the KX523 Snow Blower, in concert with the Broom, Blade and available Drop Spreader will ensure you're prepared for any winter occasion!

    That KJ540 sure gets the job done like no other! Man, if I had that many attachments, I don't know how I would decide which one to use 🤣

    Great demo. I knew the broom would - then DID - do well on the sidewalk (everywhere else too), since you've lived to talk about it! 😂👍If there was any mold or mildew on those bricks, they're pristine now 😊.
    I think the snow was right at the crossover point where any of the attachment choices would be a super choice. Make one path to the street, do what you need to do near that salt, then finish in the clean stuff; I'm sure you do something close to that!

    Since the special sidewalk had you throwing snow to the LEFT, the larger size rotary broom "might" fit when tilted fully to the left. The broom has served me well for snow, so far. I removed 8" of powder snow from my long driveway this past Tuesday. At first, it did make ice; but as soon as the clouds thinned a little the sun evaporated that icy coat. BUT, the broom pushed the snow to the side where over the past couple of days it has compacted and stiffened. Tonight we are told that we will get 3 or more inches of wet heavy snow topped by several more inches of powder. So, time will soon tell if the broom is up to that. My salesman may get to sell me a blade..... Between 4:00 and 5:00 we may get above freezing, so maybe I can rotary broom those "side berms" before the new storm.

      We're getting more snow tonight as well, maybe another 4 inches. We'll see what happens tomorrow but I'll get the cameras out again and use various attachments

      YOu must be running the HB580! That works too!

    • @rooster3019
      @rooster3019 5 месяцев назад

      @@jefffrei1167 Yes, the 580. Tolted to throw max left it is pretty narrow, the right throw angle is a bit less severe. The berms of piled snow on each side of my drive are pretty resistant to the broom. I can turn the tractor to oush them straight away, but on a half mile each way of driveway would be a chore, I did widen the curves that way. I had another good amount of snow yesterday and another 3 inches today. It should warm up and rain mid next week.

      @@rooster3019 I'm picturing what you're taking care of! Cool to imagine, thanks. You do need the quality one gets in a Ventrac! The large HB580 seems great in your setting.

    Bradley, I notice that while working on these cold days temperature gauge lights do NOT light up at all unless the chore is heavy and long (3 hours). Should I consider a cardboard baffle between radiator and its guard?

    • @bluecordprecisiongrading2504
      @bluecordprecisiongrading2504  5 месяцев назад +1

      That's completely up to you. If you're running the cab, creating some air flow restriction over the radiator might increased temps but I've never tried this on a Ventrac. I did that quite a bit when I was an Over the Road driver in the 18 wheelers putting some cardboard over the grill to increase engine coolants temps

      @@bluecordprecisiongrading2504 I have also considered the possibility of a stuck open thermostat, but the system has worked so well even recently that I mostly dismiss. We are supposed to have a warming trend here later in the week and I will observe the temp gauge them. Thank you again for your awesome presents!
