I love those first four bars, pure Bird for me, there's enough there for a style. Jonathan Kreisberg has such a beautiful sound and lines, it makes sense he likes this recording:)
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! I've listened to that Strings album so many times, but I forget how absolutely genius his playing is on it. I also love "If I Should Lose You" on that album. My first Wes album was Fusion (also with strings); and to this day, it's still some of my favorite Wes playing. I know that sometimes those "strings" albums get a bad rap, but that's seriously some of my favorite Bird and Wes playing. Also, I never realized that Claus Ogerman -- who made those beautiful albums with Michael Brecker -- was the same composer/arranger for Wes's Tequila album. In retrospect, as I write this, I'm realizing I might have a thing for "strings" album. Is that okay? 🤣 Thank you for making this video and reminding me to go back and listen to that beautiful recording. 🙏
Yeah ive discovered this Album 5 years ago when i started learning Stella by Starlight you can hear where he got a lot of his ideas from for his incredible later tunes like Confirmation Ornithology Donna lee etc Although as most probally know he did write his own melodies from the cord sequences of Gershwin Cole Porter and Morgan Lewis ? Who i think was his pianist for a while Donna lee was his new head for the cord sequence to I Back home in Indiana etc But i totaly agree Parkers playing with these great songs with Orchestra are amoung his best work and yes JF is sublime
What you need to know is… Charlie Parker had disappeared before the session started, and was on a heroin binge. He showed up with a alto saxophone that was plastic and cut loose, arguably one of the greatest improvise solos ever. I have wept many times listening to this…
This was also one of Benson's favorite solos back in the day. Great stuff. Bird ahead of his time.
Brought tears to my eyes.

I really miss seeing you and your trio at Bar Next Door. If you’ve never seen Jonathan live folks, do yourself a favor and run, don’t walk.
