Not to mention, when Miles tries to gender swap it, he envisions her doing all the cooking and cleaning of the house entirely. That's NOT what she said. She said he cooks and takes care of the kitchen and she does the rest of the chores for the house. If she was doing the cooking and he was doing all the cleaning, we'd still think the cook shouldn't lie about what they're serving!

If I’m not mistaken, pasta girl was covered by ok storytime. They did a deeper dive into relevant comments and/or updates, and the boyfriend turns out to be a totally controlling groomer. And like even without that knowledge, and ignoring opinions on her family/seemingly silly food preference, her partner could’ve have easily not agreed. Instead he just lied and used it for a gotcha moment. I couldn’t Drink tap water unless I filled and emptied the cup 3x. If i wasn’t paying attention and miscounted or didnt do the right amount each time, I had to set the empty cup down, reset, and start again. I had a partner who would try to do stuff like this with me when he’d get me water, voluntarily. I could tell (mostly because of the temperature, I think) and I’d have to go do it myself, anyway. He was also an abusive narcissist who cheated on me with a minor and ended up in jail for blackmailing minors. I may be mixing up Reddit stories-because I listen to them a lot while working or driving-but, I remembered this story because resonated. That girl was young and naive which is exactly what her ex (I believe) wanted.

Also, if the bf really did just fake it bc he doesn’t want to do the extra effort, just DONT TELL HER. If she didn’t notice, just don’t say anything or bring it up later NICELY. He’s such a weirdo for taunting her like that. Also, the age difference makes it SO much worse

OCD is debilitating when it goes undiagnosed/untreated. It’s truly exhausting always getting these thoughts that you know are illogical and not yourself. But then your brain comes up with these ways to try to control the thoughts and you’re bound to the habits over the thoughts and it just loops and loops. I finally started ERP and I wish I had it in my life ten years ago. So helpful. What people don’t seem to know that compulsions aren’t always external either. It’s not always hand washing and light switches etc. it’s literally internal mantras and thought-based habits that just take up so much of your time and capacity to function.

    • @kellydoscope_eyes
      @kellydoscope_eyes 5 месяцев назад

Thank you for explaining this in that way. My sibling has OCD but it hasn’t been treated, just diagnosed and has, amongst others, compulsions with numbers- i.e these numbers are good and these are bad, and I think possibly some are neutral. In particular 4 is the worst, so we skip episodes of tv if it’s episode 4, nothing can be bought or eaten in a group of 4. I thought when I lived there that I was helping by making sure to avoid the numbers and do whatever else to make them comfortable. I looked up ERP now and also found MCT, maybe it’ll be able to help them feel better 😊

Okay two things: 1) The age gap difference is insane and I can’t believe they didn’t either bring it up or notice it! A seventeen year old isn’t even done with high school but a 23 year old is finished with college 🤢 2) Yeah the pasta girl had a ridiculous way of eating it but instead of communicating and telling her that he wasn’t going to do it, he just decided to lie to her for three years. It would’ve been so simple to tell her that if she wants the noodles that way then she would have to do it herself.

Agreed. I think they are focusing on the weirdness of the food, and not the underlying respect and trust in a relationship. (And the inappropriate age gap). He chose to take on the chore of cooking, knowing he had no intentions of cooking the food the way she asked, and then made fun of her. It’s about having the respect to either be honest and say that he wasn’t going to cook pasta that way or cook food the way he knew she preferred. Not keep it as a joke to poke fun at her for years.

Zack, YOU made me feel seen. I was diagnosed and medicated for OCD in high school, finally after years of struggling. I'm now 36 and my OCD doesn't manifest in the ways it used to, but it still very much there. I struggled with even writing "my OCD", but yet I'm fully aware of tics and flexes I almost constantly do, my fingernails and skin constantly remind me of my dermatillomania. My fingers and toes are probably going to get arthritis from the constant flex-popping I have to do. When you talked about the way it has changed made me feel seen.
    So thank you
(You asked them, but I also don't hear the lyrics first. I can listen to it 5 times in a row, and each time sounds differently because I catch a different part, whether it's a different instrument each time, or the hook hook on replay #4, and then the lyrics last. Maybe it's my music playing throughout my life, my suspected autism, idk, but sometimes I don't even recognize the lyrics because I'm too hyperfocused on another aspect of the track.

Third off… if you volunteer/insist on cooking for someone else, you should make it the way someone wants it to be made if you know about their preferences. 😑 Fourth off… him insisting on doing all the dish cleaning and prepping means he was trying to cover up his not rinsing the noodles and with all this together makes it sound like he wants control…

the thing keith does (mimicking weird sounds in the moment) is called echolalia . i do the same thing, its a common trait/symptom of autism (which i am autistic) as well as other neurodivergencies. its nice to hear other people talking about just the weird random thing us neurodivergent people do. its definitely an undescribable weird feeling when you feel like you just have to mimic the sound lol sometimes i do it even under my breath or just make my lips form the word/sound if im trying to mask or just.. really not an appropriate time for mimicking but i still really need to do it lol. im sneaky like that ;) lol
(also my favorite thing to mimic is my cats Meows. i cant NOT meow back at him and try to mimic his exact meow sound that he made (he is very vocal and has lots of different meows... this just leads to me mimicking him and then he ends up meowing BACK at me mimicking HIM and we have like a whole half hour long conversation where i have no idea what im actualy saying as im speaking in 'cat') ;)
keith loves cats, i wonder if he has a similar experience lol. cat meows are so contagious.

Keith talking about the "music in his head" and how he flexes different muscles and moves his fingers sounds so much like my husband. I see him moving his fingers and I'll hear him humming or singing to himself.

You know, maybe this is a hot take but the tomato essence lady’s sauce thing sounds almost like the food based obsessive compulsions I often have. Like maybe she hates the flavor of the sauce but for an illogical obsessive reason needs to know the pasta has once had sauce. Not crazier than mine, it would explain the anxiety she seems to be having about it but obviously I don’t know.
In that scenario though, it’s pretty fucked up for him to act like she’s being silly. On the other hand, she might be being silly.

It's really strange that they just had a really affirming talk about their experiences with neurodiversity and various brain quirks, and then RIGHT after mocked and made fun of a person that had a different brain quirk from them. They completely missed the point of that story -- it wasn't about how OP should or shouldn't like their food a certain way but how their BF was lying to them for years about a whole bunch of stuff.

Don't count on walking into top restaurants in Japan without a reservation! All those Bib Gourmand places are going to be booked. I was there in the off season this year, and we saw people turned away from restaurants at opening time on an almost daily basis because restaurants were booked for the whole night. A lot of Japanese restaurants serve a certain number of people a day and they will not accommodate walk-ins even if they have empty tables. You're not going to go hungry since there's loads of food, but if you have your eye on top spots, plan ahead.

I don't know if it's because I studied music for 15 years, or if it's because I'm neurodivergent, but I identified so much with the musical stims and echolalia they discussed- so neat!

To jump onto the google maps marking - my cousin actually marks every restaurant/bar etc someone’s told him about, and in the “note” section on that mark he writes the name of whoever told him, and what they recommended he should try. Then he A- knows what to get when he goes to that spot and B-can text people and thank them for the recommendation!

thank you for speaking about your OCD zach. as someone who went undiagnosed for a long time after suffering from debilitating OCD my entire life, i found out in a similar way -- a radiolab episode about thoughts did a segment on OCD and the nature of intrusive thoughts and cyclical thinking, and i had to pull my car over and sob because they had put a name to what i had been experiencing as long as i could remember. i called my mom and told her i thought i had OCD and within a week i'd been diagnosed and prescribed medication that saved my life. so many people don't know what OCD can actually feel and look like and live their whole lives never knowing that treatment is possible. talking about it and sharing our stories can save lives.

Hey y'all, love the Reddit stories stuff! But if you're going to be giving your opinions on these stories, it's important to do what other channels do and actually do a deep dive on the story. Look into the comments/updates/other posts and see the full story. Because some pretty important details as others pointed out were missed.

my spaghetti take: I agree with Rainey that even though OP’s noodle preferences are a little silly, what her boyfriend did was a small betrayal or trust. especially because he was kind of spiteful or malicious about it. it’s one thing to try to push your partner out of their comfort zone and ask them to try something new or be like “hey I forgot to rinse your noodles. try it and tell me what you think. if you don’t like it I’ll fix it” or even have her eat them and be like “hey so I didn’t rinse your noodles. are they okay? I’ll rinse them if not.” but to laugh at your partner and want them to feel foolish for not realizing you tricked them is pretty mean spirited. it’s not the worst thing in the world. but I can see how it might feel kind of belittling
