You hit the nail on the head. I have been working, adapting, changing and still struggling. Not many people take this art business seriously. I keep thinking one day I’ll prove to them this is not a waste of time and money. But, I am happier than I have ever been…and I’m old. I don’t dread work, other than the boring bookkeeping. I am so glad I’m not alone in feeling worthless when hearing all these pie in the sky stories of traveling while raking in money through licensing. I just want the people who buy my stuff to like it. I’m doing this to make others happy, not sit on a yacht cashing checks from hallmark.

most of the artists who teach licensing make way more from teaching than licensing itself. yes do it because it brings you joy!

Real talk, very relatable. I definitely balance between wanting it all and wanting to be left alone, haha. I appreciate this nuance in your ted talk :)

What is also a problem in today's society is the opposite of what you are talking about. Too many people want to check out of the corporate world and homestead instead - without realizing that full time homesteading is as much if not more work than a full time job.
Some people don't want to check out and are starting side hustles with a "success in one year" approach creating a situation that the side hustle takes more time than their full time job - and then think they failed when they "can't do it all".
I think part of the issue is that those who make it, never show the grind behind making it, or show the people helping them along the way, or even show the financial backing (even if it is their own savings) they may have had to help them succeed.

many good points here. I held tightly onto the “success in 18mon” mentality for the first year of my business. Thankfully having kids forced me to slow down and reminded me of how fast time goes by seeing how quickly they grow, and that the mentality I had was not serving anyone but my ego.

@@EasySundayClub and yet most small businesses usually take 3-5yrs before they can even come close to profitability, with most failing before that mark.

Thanks so much for this one! I can relate so much. 💛 It's been a slow slog for me, growing my art business. I started in 2017 and, around 5 years later (after tons of learning, consistently pushing myself out of my comfort zone and very few actual weekends), I was able to replace the income I was making at my last "regular" full time job. I'm still nowhere near the income I want to be making in order to be able to save, invest and give to causes I believe in, and I'm aware the current worldwide economy is making it harder, but I'm not giving up. There's just no way! I'm way happier today than I ever was in any of my regular jobs and, even if it is stressful at times, the fact that it is my business that I'm growing and something that I really believe in that I'm doing MY way, it's still a lot more worth it and very different from the stress and depression I was feeling working for someone else. I've been watching lots of your videos and I love what you're sharing. Thank you for what you do!

Thank you, Erika! I can relate to so much of what you shared. Despite the unpredictability, loneliness, and stress that may come with this journey at times, I wouldn’t have it any other way. You sound like a very heart centered business owner and creative so the world is better with you living authentically than trying to fit in someone else’s mold ❤️.

There's always been a lot of hero worship in the US culture . Financially successful people have become household names before the internet, you knew that already - what I find interesting is online media has made a new model of success possible - for some people . And this becomes a goal for some other people who find it attractive . You've maybe seen stories about less flashy millionaires who grew a business more slowly and their motivation was to work hard to help their family - their wealth came along slowly- and they weren't seeking not stardom for instance
