- The top of the Ford engine is known to leak through the core plugs at the top. In this episode I replace out leaking core plugs

Just changed the core plugs on my sons car this morning.
Used a little bit of Dirko HT sealant, hopefully will do the trick.
Core plugs were leaking just a tiny bit. As the engine heats up, the coolant evaporates, and because that area is pretty much sealed, the steam interfers with the HT leads/spark plugs, causing a misfire.
Good.job mate., it was an easier job than I antict
First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! Lifesaver!
Do you know the size/model of core plug? I am having some trouble finding the correct dimensions for this engine. Thanks!
Hi, I couldn’t work out what size to buy because there seem to be many different specs so I went and ordered from a ford garage who based it on the license plate
@@HenrysGarage Ok, I will give that a try as well :) Thanks!
I think the water comes from above from the washer jets ? My wifes core plugs are on the way out , i think they rotted from the tops having water sitting on them. I think i better buy the plus to be ready to fix them. Cab i ask where you got the right ones or what size they are?
I went to a ford garage to ensure I got the right ones. The two were only about £2.50 and I figured the saving of buying elsewhere would be insignificant
@@HenrysGarage Thanks I ll find our local ford spares dept and go there, were you happy with your technique? I was thinking of drilling a little hole in the plug and levering on that. I am paranoid about driving them in further or is there nowhere for them to go ? Cheers. The T7 resto looks like it's been keeping you busy. They are nice when in good condition.
@family-accountemail9111 hope you didn't drill through then, the swarf could well potentially damage the pump. As for the possibility that they drop through, mine did but managed to fish it out using a long nose pliers.
I'm assuming this ultimately solved the problem with water in that area?
We've no longer got water collecting there so I think it is sorted
Did you have to drain out any coolant before you started.
No, but I needed to clear the fluid that was sitting above the plugs with a syringe and sponge the paper to dry it
Just goes to show how cars should be used frequently. I am quite surprised how much water got into that location! for a modern car.
Heck, when I saw it I thought it was something far more serious. It took a little research to discover the cause
You should have thoroughly cleaned around the apertures and used some sealant in there for longevity.
Good thought. Fortunately it is cheap and easy so if I see the issue persist I'll do that.
