Back again, compelled to enter another comment. Just when I thought I had expressed sufficient praise of Gert, I distinguish another point. This piece and performance cause me further wonder. Why ? Because this piece, although pleasantly beautiful and very listenable (I enjoy it and return to it) is Not some ‘wondrous’ or ‘great’ musical work. It doesn’t ‘wow’ you, or daunt you with awe and respect. It won’t be listed with the truly magnificent musical works of the greats. In short, it’s a modest piece (on the musical continuum). And so doesn’t give a pianist much to move or excite anyone with. And yet…. Gert manages to make it Truly Beautiful. And a repeated Joy to listen to (on a poorly tuned piano no less). Now THAT’s impressive. Only someone truly Musically gifted could do that.
His ability to produce beauty actually rises to a level of magic in my mind. But since I don't believe in 'magic' at all, I see him as literally blessed.
The whole point of this intimate, informal upload is not the state of tune of the piano. It's simply Gert playing the piano for his own enjoyment whilst engaging with the audience in his own way.
This poorly tuned piano serves to show how immune Gert is to 'props' - not requiring them. He doesn't need a great Steinway or magnificent hall to produce beautiful music, or transmit his magic. Gert is an actual, in the truest sense, source of beautiful sound and feeling.
wish your Welcome Comments could have been translated/scrolled at the bottom. I KNEW when you used to perform in malls and subway's on Piano, that ALSO was a going to come out in a Concert... Bravo and Great Expression!
Beautiful playing Gert. The piano is so expressive, yet still a percussion instrument. You do the piano and your craftmanship proud. Loved this as much as your organ playing, which you also are able elicit emotional expression.
You are right in that he is a MUSICAL prodigy - not just some great instrumentalist. Horowitz was a towering piano virtuoso - but musically he only ranked mediocrity. Gert is blessed with a trans-worldly level of musical expression that many upon many have expressed awe at. Many of the performances that I am wowed by are Not instrumental masterpieces (although no one could have played it any better). The piece is Not an instrumental achievement. But rather a musical gift to those who can perceive it's beauty.
Mon très cher ami Gert, très joli morceau, jouer avec passion. Tu as commencer par l'Orgue puis le Piano. @@88keyes Gert is explaining that his improvisations are usually emotion driven, and most of the time he has no idea where it will end when he begins. This sounds as a common rule of improvising, but most often improvisations are based on some, so to say, forework where some theme is worked out. 'Go with the flow'.
too much talking, bla, bla , bla. The piano is out of tune and the piece was boring. Where's the pieces listed in the program¿ Leave the speech making to professional orators and stick to the organ.
The talking is a service providing to the audience, telling them some detailed information about the to be played pieces at the concert. Please remember that those people are paying a price for that concert. And if a played piece isn't in the program, then couldn't it possibly be an improvisation? ;-)
You are very unkind. This man is probably the most talented exponent of Organ in the World. His piano playing on this video is both engaging and faultless. You would do well to study appreciation.
@@waldenhouse A thoughtful, beautifully expressed, restrained response to a troll. How did you manage to do it. I wouldn't be capable of controlling my revulsion in the case of someone so wonderful as Gert. You know of course, that some trolls are NOT at all uneducated, unintelligent or unperceptive. They attack Deliberately - already knowing everything you would have them understand. They SEEK to inject ugliness.

Gert uses this relatively simple piece to make a deep personal statement. Very moving!
The entire point of music is not the complexity of performance, but the complexity of emotions experienced by those who listen.
Well done presentation. Some people always have to complain. Just ignore them and keep playing beautiful music Gert.
So, so very beautiful Gert. Thank you for sharing.
I do love it when he plays piano !
Another splendid display of Gerts talent and magic at any keyboard! Jerald Bartlett

Gert is a young natural. Beautiful pianist and organist. An extremely talented man.

Put differently, the beauty here is coming from Gert - not that piano.

I'm used to hearing this as a. Competition bass song white clouds . awesome IS ALL I CAN SAY.

Now, for people pretending that organists aren't pianists...
RAHAN G Generally most organists usually start out learning the piano first.
@@Zoom_1012 I've heard an organist on the radio said playing the piano makes her organ play better.
