      people then, like today, were too wrapped up in their amazement of modern technology to recognize its dangers. notice how the drawing shows "video" phones in use. we've been promised in-home video phones for over 70 years now. although the technology has existed since cable-tv became possible (the late 60s), they pushed cellphones on us instead.

      there is no "they“ who push something on us.. the market decides and thus the people. It‘s such an american bs kinda thing by not taking responsibility but pushing it to "them“ on the top, who ever that should be.

    • @cjmacq-vg8um
      @cjmacq-vg8um 2 года назад +4

      @@hannesschwan6284 ... you don't know who "they" are? the so-called "market" doesn't represent the people. "they" manipulate and control the market.
      "they" are our ruling elite, they're the corporate "leaders," they are the rich and powerful who dictate everything. they decide what laws will be presented, passed and enforced. they decide prices and wages and that poverty will continue like a plague on humanity. its they who dictate what direction humanity will take. what technology will be developed to spy on us and addict us.
      who "they" are is no secret.

    1:05 To put that photo in context : That was a typical food ration per adult for one week:
    Bacon & Ham 4 oz
    Other meat value of 1 shilling and 2 pence (equivalent to 2 chops)
    Butter 2 oz
    Cheese 2 oz
    Margarine 4 oz
    Cooking fat 4 oz
    Milk 3 pints
    Sugar 8 oz
    Preserves 1 lb every 2 months
    Tea 2 oz
    Eggs 1 fresh egg (plus allowance of dried egg)
    Sweets 12 oz every 4 weeks
    They were encouraged to cultivate any land/garden and grow their own fruit and veg. Some items were not rationed but they were hard to come by and queuing was a necessity. Many folks who lived through those years learned to not throw away anything that could be reused somehow. I knew a granny still obsessed with hoarding brown paper and string for example. Rationing didn't end completely until 1954 - the last thing to come off ration was meat. Six years of war left the UK broke and TBH most of the population much slimmer and fitter than they are now.

      My gran was the same-they never threw anything out if it could be useful one day. Even her gravy... She got married just after the war and always poured the left over gravy into a kilner jar until next Sunday, when she'd add to it, then replace the leftovers back into the jar. Best damned gravy ever tasted right up until 1992. Thanks gran!

    3:01 my grandfather grew up in the Great Depression, he told me that he felt bad for the people in the city. He said at least they had gardens. He was eating hard lumps of brown sugar for candy. That's the only candy they had. Now I know what he was talking about.

    Don't get me wrong but I really envy the hippie dad and daughter. That girl was born at an amazing time, can you imagine having hippie parents in your childhood and than being a teenager in the 80s?

    • @patrickmclaughlin61
      @patrickmclaughlin61 Год назад +1

      The 70s and 80s were great in many ways and the world seemed more free.
      One downside to having hippy, "free love" parents is year they had an exponentially increasing divorce rate. With that, often came child neglect and abuses. Unfortunate trade off for parents living "their" dream.

      My my college roommate’s girlfriend was at Woodstock at age 2.
      I was pretty jealous of that.
      And I was only less than two years older than her.
      My parents are from the “Big Band” generation, that thought Elvis was Satan.
      There was a humongous generation gap between me and my siblings, and my parents

    Random comments - Chief Dust Maker is so cool looking. He's definitely styling. - That Berlin was rebuilt fairly rapidly after all the devastation is remarkable, also considering the male work population was depleted after the casualties from the carnage of the war. - The photo of the homeless in Central Park during the depression is like today, only there are many more homeless now. Maybe we are in an unannounced Depression. - Putin looks evil.

    These videos are so amazing. I love them, but they make me feel so sad for the people who aren't here any more. The music is very apt. When I see these and the people that have passed, it makes me miss my parents even more than I already do, which I didn't think was possible. So emotional, touching and although I get upset, sat here in tears, I can't stop watching. Thank you so much, Steve xx

    Amazing and interesting pictures. I would add something: 1) there was no such state as Lithvania in 1965 - it was one of the republics in USSR; 2) it was USA who bombed Japan. I dont know why this information was not mentioned in subtitles.
    One of the most interesting picture, imho, its the picture which showes the expectations of the people about the future. We are lucky that we have opportunity to compare them with the real life. Amazingly, their dreams were very close to the real life.
