West Coast Racers Review (Updated), Six Flags Magic Mountain Racing Coaster | This Ride is Redundant

- West Coast Racers is a multi-launch, quasi mobius roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain. This ride takes the LSM launches of Full Throttle and the dueling element of Twisted Colossus, and combines them into one complete ride. While this ride may be redundant, it's ultimately a ton of fun!

I’ve found this ride to be fantastic! The initial airtime element is one of the craziest ejector moments on any coaster
That high five is amazing.
Wow its updated :D Love your vids keep going!
Thanks! Will do!
Wholeheartedly agree. It's a good ride but it makes no sense at Magic Mountain, and imo both Full Throttle and Twisted Colossus do WCRs job better. (Even tho WCR actually duels all of the time lol.) Imo it's my #7 in the park at best.
I feel the same way and have it similarly ranked for the park. Don't understand those that have it in top 5 or even top 3.
I like it even if it's redundant.
@@CanobieCoaster still a great ride. Would be number 1 at a good number of Six Flags parks. Just gets drowned in the MM lineup.
Yeah, I have it at #6, but if Tatsu didn't always leave me in the prone position on the final brake run for 15 minutes every time, WCR would be my #7. I think Full Throttle is so much better than WCR!
Love the look with columns. Trains gracefully executing the circuits. They got a lot of things RIGHT with this coaster. Especially the theming.
It looks great.
Redundant, but it still does two things that twisted colossus doesn't,
It duels
And it has discomfort collars
I get half duels every few rides on Twisted Colossus.
@@enzodiscoverymoonlight I can't say I really hate them, I just think they're stupid, whether you feel them or not.
This was such a fantastic addition, I was worried if it would be too similar to TwiCol but it's already different enough just from the fact it always duels. No but I really like the system they do to make it always duel, the layout is very different of a feel from Full Throttle and pretty any Premier, and the wave turn mist gave crazy sideways ejector, forceful turns and cool inversions. Even if they aren't whippy, it's the dueling aspect.
I like it even if it has major elements of other coasters there.
Your original review was how I found your channel!
Cool! Glad you stuck around.
This is going to be weird to say, but I think West Coast Racers is one of my favorite coasters to look at. It's weird to say because Magic Mountain has a lot of really iconic rides with great visuals both on and off ride and most people would probably think West Coast just gets buried under all of them both literally in the prk's skyline and in the lineup. Yet there's just something about it, especially when you see it from the top of Samurai Summit that just looks super cool. I don't consider it my favorite ride by any means, and it's really in the middle of the pack when it comes to the park's lineup, but whatever they did, I hope they keep doing it because I just think it looks really nice.
It is exciting to watch with the dueling.
@@CanobieCoaster It is. Even though it is guaranteed and always synced uo, there's something I like more about West Coast than seeing a duel on Twisted Colossus. Even though seeing a perfect duel on Twisted is about as rare as it gets, I prefer to watch WCR. It's not just the duels though. It's the track, the colors, the supports... it's all really cool.
Racers is one of my favorite in the park, twisted doesn’t always duel and full throttle is greatttt a favorite of mine as well but it is too short and not worth it if it’s a long wait and seems to break down frequently IMO. Racers fills those voids and adds a great family ride that’s still thrilling I really love the ride ❤
That's fair!
GREAT WEST COAST RACERS - SIX FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN - REVIEW !!!
Here is the review.
I rode this in october of 23 and when I boarded the train, I moved the comfort collar over my head with one of my hands, and then sat down. the medal part fell out of my hand and hit me straight in the head. It hurts so bad that I couldn’t even enjoy the ride.
Ouch!
I haven’t done the ride yet (believe or not) so thank you for this review
You're welcome.
AWESOME VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤩
Thanks!
@@CanobieCoaster You're Welcome!🤩
I am a big fan of this ride, but it's not my favorite by Premier. I have no issues with their seats on any of their trains, but I do see why taller guests have issues with these and their older seats. My issue is with the discomfort collars. Average height and shorter guests are subject to all kinds of painful banging with those collars, so basically, everyone will have some kind of problem with these trains. I learned to hold onto the collars, which does work. But I still prefer most Premier coasters without the collars.
The high-5 at the very start slammed me into the collars, and I was in so much pain. Holding the collars has prevented that from happening again, and it's now my # 6 in the park. I love the racing element!
I must be the perfect height not to have issues (minus the awkward loading).
I used to have no issue with Premier restraints, and then WCR broke down on me before starting the second lap. Those shin guards are torture for long durations sitting on the launch track. Even though I got an extra long ride, it was a very fun coaster.
I wish they could make a newer, more comfortable train in the future.
I have to hand it to SFMM, they really do have long coasters. I mean, you always ride both sides in TC, and now in this, and the only really short coaster at the park is Full Throttle.
This looks like a fun must ride. I have so much to look forward to with SFMM since my last trip. Full Throttle, Twisted C, WCR, and Wonder Woman. Wow, it would be worth visiting for those four even if that's all the park had, but to still have all the others to look forward to again is a treat, especially Tatsu and X2 which I just love. I'll give Scream and Riddler's a miss as Riddler's rattles my head and gives me a headache and I always bang my head into the restrains on Scream and find it too boring to be worth the headache, but will ride everything else that's open, including Viper which I find enjoyable. I believe the entry requirements will change soon to the US, so Ill be able to visit, and even though I am going to Europe in August, if the rules have changed by May I'd like to do a week in California then back to OZ. Like a bullet trip as I call them. Long flight but I'll use my miles to go business class, sleep all the way there, go Knotts, Disney, Six Flags, then fly home. Will be fun. I just hope I am lucky enough to get a duel in TC, as that seems to completely transform it. I will beg the operators!
I agree they have a ton of long rides there.
I do wonder about the trains’ maintenance cycle- it would seem quite a lengthy wait for the second half of the ride if WCR only operated on a two train cycle…is there a fourth train that the park uses?
They have a 7th car that they is always on a maintenance cycle. The color panels I believe can be easily removed and applied to any car.
I think they have a spare.
honestly I like West Coast Racers more than Full Throttle. I was genuinely impressed with my first ride in 2021 and would put it in my top 5 at the park (although I haven’t ridden Wonder Woman yet). the launch was way better than expected, the high five at the beginning legitimately felt like it was going to toss me out of the train, the inversions were really fun, and I greyed out on several of the turns. not to mention the perfect dual enhances the experience by a mile. my only complaint is that the pause before the second lap is pretty lackluster, but other than that I loved it.
I prefer West Coast Racers too.
Fun coaster, but hard to get on. If you enter SFMM as a passholder and head right, you can ride Full Throttle twice before the park opens, then 2-3 rides on Twisted Colossus with no line, then Wonder Woman with a very short line. But then by the time you reach West Coast Racers, the line is unreasonable. Heading to WCR right at park open can work (if the ride is actually open), but then you give up the walk-ons on Full Throttle, Twisted Colossus, and Wonder Woman, which is never an advantageous tradeoff, so I end up usually not riding WCR.
I didn't realize Full Throttle opens before the park. Usually I go to X2 first since that ride usually has one train for me.
I just went here in January. And west coast racers is still really good! And by the way, when I went to West Coast Racers, it had alot of delays when I was in line. Like an hour wait!
I've had good luck with it being open.
@@CanobieCoaster Yeah
I would like one of these in Mexico and I think it could use something like Hollywood rip ride rockit, that you can listen to music while you ride the attraction
Six Flags Mexico could use a launch coaster.
Before my only trip to SFMM in late November 2019 I predicted this coaster to not open until 2020, then I was a little embarrassed to have gotten that wrong. Only now I realize I was right: it was only open to pass holders. Thank you for making me feel vindicated.
It was a technicality how the park got it open in 2019.
Icebreaker is my personal fave premier that i have been on. My expectations were so low, but that "Family" coaster gave me stronger airtime than mako did that day
Ice Breaker has stronger airtime, but this ride has the fun factor.
Icebreaker has the most violent ejector air at SeaWorld. Which isnwhythe comfort collars were such an issue on it....but theyre taking them off now
I've rode this coaster quite a bit as SFMM use to be my home park and I rode it all day during media day and plenty of times since. I honestly prefer Full Throttle. The comfort collars seem to impact me more and more with this ride. I'd rather have the set-up that Full Throttle has. For me West Coast Racers is the 7th best coaster in the park. As a side note I really didn't have an issue with the back rows. I would say West Coast Racers is a good ride but not anywhere near the some of the best rides SFMM has to offer.
I prefer West Coast Racers for the length and visuals.
I'm right there with you Alan. The collars don't bother me as much as they used to, but they bother me enough. I greatly prefer Full Throttle, and it's never felt short to me, not for a launch coaster.
Are you planning to go to sfne for opening day this year?
No, busy that weekend with Easter.
Completely agree. I really do enjoy the ride but it should be at another park. I don’t really love the area, there’s not much shade. I’m sure it does look better than the old area at least
I wish it was put at New England.
What are your current top 5 coasters made by Premier Rides?
I think I have a video ranking that.
It’s always surprised me how slow operations are on this ride. It always prevents me from queuing any time other than at open
I wish the unload was on the opposite side. That really hurts dispatches.
Yeah...this ride would have been PERFECT at a park like Six Flags New England instead...which has no launch or dueling coasters and the crowds arent what Magic Mountain's are so itd be a more manageable wait
I agree.
Do you find the lap bars continuously lower? I had that experience on tigris
@Tusky1234 Games Supporting 🇺🇦 phobia doesn’t have it for me probably because the lap bars ratchet and aren’t hydraulic
They can if you don't hold onto them.
@@TuskyGamesSupportingPhobia rides better thn the other Skyrocket 2s imo. Rode Tigris last week and Tempesto last year...but ride Phobia all.the time..
probably my most ridden coaster cuz i live basically next to LC and its always a walk on lol
The underground area of the park is themed after the outside of Six Flags America. 🙃
Lol
Watch them relocate it to six flags New England and it just be an expensive lawn ornament
The ride would have been a great fit at that park.
Id be 100% ok with that...well not the ornament part but this ride would be PERFECT for SFNE
@@Posirep well they relocated Goliath and it was a multi million dollar lawn ornament so I would expect the same for this
@@micoasters Youre talking about an old Vekoma that had outlived its usefulness vs a 3 year old ride.
Most of Goliath's issues were self-inflicted anyway by changing the trains to...Premier trains. Of course, its always Premier lol
@@Posirep can you not take a joke?
SFNE Would’ve been a good home for this ride I think
Very much so.
AKA: Manta W/ inversions. SFMM should get a Skyline P'Sghetti Bowl coaster that will allow them to have the most coasters yet again and the most dueling coasters at 3!
It does have a lot of similarities.
I agree its redundant, but its still really fun
Yes
What they should’ve built is a dive coaster or a legit hyper airtime machine.
Those would have been better fits.
A good ride if it's working, which is not often...
I've had good luck with it being open.
Hey! Its something! Its new!
True
My biggest complaint about WCR (aside from comfort collars) is yes it does a lot of things but it doesn't stand out any one thing. However I believe a lot of people like it because it is not as intense as some other other rides at the park. SFMM has a lot of intense rides and this is a bit more tame for the GP.
I agree the ride doesn't have many standout elements minus the high five, but the visuals help compensate.
And it's also Magic Mountain's only dueling coaster.
Hey now, you're using outdated video of Ice Breaker at my homepark 😂.....they have officially removed the comfort collars.
I saw photos of the trains without them. Did it get regular seatbelts?
@@CanobieCoaster I can't answer that for certainty as they just completed the transition and testing and I haven't been at the park this week to see with my own eyes. But since this is a Sea World entertainment park, I'm sure there is no seat belt, just the existing lap bar. Iron Gwazi only sea world coaster in FL that has a seat belt.
@CanobieCoaster I know you said Premier likes extra safety but Phobia rides with just the lap bars and has never had an incident
its a great ride the park didn't need.
Yes
It is a very fun coaster. However, it always seems to have a long line and the operations are atrocious. I would rather spend my time over at Twisted Colossus, X2, or Wonder Woman.
I prefer those 3 as well. Usually I save a membership skip for this one.
Should have gone to Great Adventure.
East Coast Racers
I prefer Magic Mountain.
@@CanobieCoaster Nah, I meant the ride should have gone to Great Adventure. That park is in need of a multi launch looping coaster in the worst way, and WCR would have been a perfect fit. Why they chose it for Magic Mountain is beyond me.
@@redwolfcorprevamped8266Nah, much better fit up the road at SFNE.
At least Gadv has a launch coaster in Kingda Ka. Up in the northeast the only launch coaster is Phobia at Lake Compounce....and Shellraiser and Sandy's Blasting Bronco if you wanna count those in that area
Twisted Collosus and WCW ARE mobious loop layouts. There's no such thing as "qausi-mobious".
I count mobius is they go back to the station for the second lap.
A mobius-loop coaster would be if the train ran on one side of the track on the first lap but on the second lap, it ran on the other side of the track (i.e. underneath).
@Me, Myself and I Correct, and for both TC and WCR that's EXACTLY what happens: after completing one circuit of the first color track, the train waits on a block segment or is paced through a zone (where the track changes color) to then line up with the train thay has just been dispatched. It then completes its 2nd run of the course on the other colored track.
@CanobieCoaster Returning to the station is only necessary when loading and offloading riders. If a coaster returns to the station before completing its second lap, it's just a shuttle/lapping coaster.
feel like its one of the worst rides at MM. The trains are so terrible it ruins any fun it normally may have. The mid ride wait is annoying too. Put the Full Throttle trains on it and it would be a better experience.
I don't mind the trains minus the legroom issue in rows 3 and 6.
@Canobie Coaster I also dont like Icebreaker at Seaworld Orlando. Its a one and done for me and my family mainly because of the restraints. Full Throttle style trains should be the standard on Premier Rides coasters and would make WCR and Ice Breaker much better as the layouts arent bad. I will be at MM in two weeks and WCR will be skipped unless it is a walkon.
Weird.
It's a unique one.
Worst. Restraints. Ever!!!
Even worse than the ones on Riddler's Revenge?
I don't mind them myself.
@@me-myself-i787 haven't had the chance
Soo boring 😴
I disagree.
