You can run what is called a one-point test. You need the proctor mold, a hammer, a strike off bar, a portable stove (to burn off the moisture), a sieve, a brass bowl, a scoop, and a balance. You can perform the proctor test as shown in this video on site. It will yield one moisture content and one bulk unit weight. Your state DOT should have typical moisture-density curves. You simply plot your data on the chart they provide.
Best way to remove all the dirt from the mold before weighing is to SPIN IT 👍👍😎😎 The motion flings the dirt of without affecting your soil inside the mold
@@BracaPhoto we do that at my lab, spray the inside of the mold with WD-40, unless the sample is really wet and will slide right out. I usually just cut away the outer edge of the sample after so I don't include any WD-40 in my moisture
4:42 the equation might be wrong, the moisture content defined for Geotechnical Engineering has denominator of dry mass not wet mass. Obviously, at 4:42 what will be multiplied with moisture content difference is wet mass.
search on google moisture content soils. several construction material testing outfits sell some kits (Speedy 2000), but are expensive (search Humboldt or Elle combined with the word soil. The agriculture industry has some devices for purpose of crops. good luck!
where can I get a moisture tester, I own a mini excavator with hydraulic compactor and I would love to have a moisture test and the data sheet that tells me what good moisture levels are for sand, pit run, road gravel, and other mysterious form of soil, i believe the equipment is out there and it wont be the perfect thing but it will give me an idea of how my compaction is working and i will be sure to pass tests I feel bad when I fail a compaction test feels like a waist of time
Lol. I'm taking my field evaluation test next week. And I have to run a compaction test. I ran a few before. Still a little sketchy about it. Lol. We have to run a 3 point curve. 2 on dry and 1 on wet. Lol. Hopefully I pass.
Hi Sir. There are six red "X" marks in your graph, does this mean you did the process six times to get six dry unit weights and six moisture contents values? In other words you did six trials?
The testing method should be specified before you even start testing, that's not on you. Either get it from the project manager, the engineer, the contractor.
I am not really nitpicking here but doing a proctor in the Lab is different than doing it in the field. I test soils and in the field. It's different when doing a one point in the field than it is on the lab. Rock correction is needed as well Also we have to use a speedy for the moisture content as well. Also it's hard when u have some pissed off contractors city state inspectors watching I the whole time when doing this. Good video but lab and field is different
Sir!Thanks for ur presentation. I would like ask some thing. How can I construct plasticity chart (Especially A-line & U-line) using excel. Then if you have tutorial video or link pls. Thanks for support
I know its been 8 years but you manage to explain this stuff SOO much better than our lab books.

I think at 3:20, they meant to show the graph of dry density vs moisture content rather than the particle size distribution.

Or spray the inside with a lubricant like WD40 before adding any soil
@@jimmy_flaps you add wd40 ? Is that too get the soil out after weighing? I haven't tried that
@@jimmy_flaps some clays are stubborn as hell though

thank you so much for your clear explanations. can you please do another tutorial clip on California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test?
Thank you it helped me after 8 years latter....😊😊
You are doing well
Well done
Awesome video, thanks for the upload.
Thank you very much sir! You really helped me with my school assignments and presentation.
Thank you! This is an excellent explanation.
The compaction curve was misplaced by a particle size distribution at 3:18
YES
This is very helpful. Thank you!
Dr. Dove brought me here
I'd like to see you doing a 4.5kg rammer compaction in a cbr mould PMSL.

Very helpful video 👍❤️☺️
Excellent video.
Hey, your videos are great
can You make video... california (C.B.R.) test ?
thank you a million sir.
You look like sheldon cooper....
good job
i do a lot of 6" ASTM modified C proctors. lots of 1" rd base where im at
Thank you
how many proctor tests is he able to do per day?
Do you have the ASTM that's directs how to collect the soul sample?

question? how important is breaking up the clumps when doing the moisture test?
If you're just breaking it up before sticking it in the oven, it helps facilitate the drying process. Bigger chunks usually take longer to dry.
@@MartinRodriguez-cu6vl why not wearing gloves because bare hand will disturb the accuracy of sample moisture content.

Yes, 6 specimens at different moisture percentages, getting your moisture content each time as well. Then charting your curve
When to use the modified and when the standard ??
Jorge Gómez typically a clay material is standard and granular is modified
