    Thank you so much for this video. I've learnt a lot about sieve analysis and the hydrometer. This is indeed gonna be of use to me as a civil engineering student at Uganda Christian University -Africa.

    Nice work. This video is over 5 years old now. Has anyone on staff looked into the new "Standard Test Method for Particle-Size Distribution of Fine-Grained Soils Using the Sedimentation (Hydrometer) Analysis ASTM D7928-16"? Is a video in the works?

    How did they come up with the numbering of sieves? Like the no. 4 no. 8 no. 200? Thanks!

    • @flashpointwhite
      @flashpointwhite 4 года назад +2

      This is likely way past the point where you care, but for anyone else interested, the number associated with a sieve is how many holes per inch through the mesh.

    thank you so much, but what if I applied the mechanical sieving then the hydrometer with another sample(mixed in size)>>???

    • @nadiali5111
      @nadiali5111 7 лет назад

      from my understanding, if u did it separately, you may have problem when plotting the particle size distribution because it did not match.

    what are the sieves for nanoparticles?

    • @JUNIPERRRR
      @JUNIPERRRR 5 месяцев назад

      Mostly on sieve testing sieves are for anywhere up to 125mm and down to 63um, which is microns.

    Sorry buy your sampling by spoon is not in accordance with ASTM and a splitter must be used to reduce sample size.
