This is the NDR Big Band from Hamburg, of which Bert Kaempfert was once a member, along with James Last, Horst Wende and Ladi Geisler (who of course was Kaempfert's famous Knack-Baß player). Several members of the Kaempfert and Last bands can be seen here, including bassist Lucas Lindholm, vibraphonist Wolfgang Schlüter, guitarist Heinz Schultze, saxes Harald Ende and Jo Ment, trumpeters Heinz Habermann and Lennart Axelsson, and the great trumpet soloist Manfred Moch (seen at 4:14).
Fred Moch, who played the brief trumpet solo in Strangers in the Night here, played the orginal version was was a wonderful trumpeter! He did many great things with BK back in the day. Should always be remembered as one of the key musicians of the Kaempfert sound.
Many people are not aware that Bert Kaempfert composed many famous songs that became mega hits. He wrote L.O.V.E for Nat King Cole, the song "Dankeschoen" performed by many artists (including Ferris Bueller), and "My Way" for Frank Sinatra (he wrote that one together with Paul Anka), another number one hit: "Strangers in the night" also performed by Frank Sinatra - yes, Bert Kaempfert wrote that song. "The Lion sleeps tonight" or "In the Jungle", you might know that song from Disney Movies: Composed by Bert Kaempfert. There is so many more. Bert was not just a great band leader, giving the world a new style of music, but also a great song writer and composer. All I have to say is: Dankeschön, Bert Kaempfert!
BK did not compose 'My Way' with or without Paul Anka; Anka wrote the memorable lyric well after the melody was composed by a Frenchman. After Strangers (Beddy Bye) the song Fips composed and FAS sang was Over and Over (The World we Knew). Wayne Newton probably had more English-language hits than anyone else of BK-composed songs.
@@shekhdar I didn't know that, James Last once said My Way was composed by Paul Anka. But maybe it was just the Lyrics. Wayne Newton I can see as an adopter of BK songs, yet adhered on Dankeschoen - great song, don't get me wrong, there is so many other BK songs that made it, like the jungle song and more. Just trying to say: Most BK songs, if not all of them, were taken advantage by some unknown performers back them, like Frank Sinatra, and I don't mind, just want to make sure BK gets credit for it.
Yes, they were my heroes too - but only the original TJB Herb Alpert (+ Bert Kaempfert + Hans Last). I purchased many Kaempfert CDs in modern times. Otherwise I actually listen to Classical and Baroque music 99.9% of the time ;) Original Polydor recordings are much better (LP or CD).
Thanks for this. I can see at least 4 musicians who also played for James Last at times. Manfred Moch, Lenart Axelsson, Heinz Habermann on trumpets. Harald Ende on Saxophone. Ah they don't make musicians like this anymore. James Last passed away 9th June 2015. Vale James Last.
Do you know the second trumpet from the left (with moustache)? I believe I met him in the late sixties at a Baltic Sea resort with a band called "the Münzer Swingers" .
Many people don't know that Bert Kaempfer is the composer of Spanish Eyes which was originally titled "Moon over Napoli" until they wrote the lyrics in english here in the USA for its first recording which is when the name was changed.
2:44: This version of "Happy Trumpeter" ("A Swingin' Safari", 1962) is the version recorded by Herb Alpert, called "Magic Trumpet" ("What Now My Love", 1966).
The song was recorded by the tijuana brass called the Magic trumpet. which is the way this orchestra plays it. If you change the timing of it . it is called the magic trumpet, which is the way bert kaempfert recorded it. hope this helps
North German Radio orchestra was effectively the Kaempfert orch in the early days with Manny Moch on trumpet. All sadly ruined here by reverb-drenched audio. CB

Manfred Moch divino, imortal!

Lo escuchaba de chico cómo me decepcioné cuando me di cuenta que él no tocaba la trompeta!!!!
It's a tribute to Kaempfert, but not the original Kaempfert sound and instrumentation (although some of the former musicians are involved).
Yes, I don't hear the Knackbass by Ladislav Geisler!!
Shofar34u..... The good always die young........

PERO NO ES LA ORQUESTA DE BERT KAEMPFERT .
can anyone tell me the name of the 4 the melody in this compilations
The one and only Wolfgang Schlüter on vibes
Yes, Schluter was one of Europe's top three vibraphonists, a superb musician.
Christopher Burton And he is still playing occasionally in Germany although being almost completely blind.
"Danke Schoen" have other style too. You must call this video "Bert Kaempfert's Tunes Medley Played By... Orchestra".
,MANFRED MOCH SE SEPARO DESPUES DE LA ORQUESTA DE BERT KAEMPFERT

Heinz Habermann
Alors ça monsieur si ce n'est pas de la musique....?
Is there someone who knows the name of the music at 1:55? Thanks.
L.O.V.E.
L.O.V.E., composed by Fips also!
rick tijssen L-O-V-E is the name of that song.
North German Radio orchestra was effectively the Kaempfert orch in the early days with Manny Moch on trumpet. All sadly ruined here by reverb-drenched audio. CB
Bert died much to early.
He was a heavy smoker. could it have been lung cancer. Don't know.
@@jmen4ever257 no he died of a cerebral haemorrhage, i.e. a stroke. I think it was more likely that the strain of touring and performing in public for a notoriously shy man was what caused it.
:-)))))))
I can't imagine paying all those musicians! Yikes!
