I mean bankruptcy has always been a way to help people and companies get their crap in order. It’s not meant to shut down a company and never has been. There is no ‘actually mean bankruptcy again’ when this is what it has always meant. That said abusing the bankruptcy court should mean losing the company. Period. There are several ways companies have abused it, almost every large company has abused it in some way. If a company isn’t going into bankruptcy court in good faith and it’s clearly evident they aren’t they should not benefit from it.

Dude you are lucky. I think your parents gave you an amazing start, as far away from microplastics and harmful chemicals (of course not all chemicals are harmful but the US allows harmful ones into our food) and harmful processing methods as possible. I want to live up north where the summers are mild and the winters are harsh. I’m glad you are happy to be here in the US now but I wish I felt the same. I’ve been chewed up and spit out by this country and my state. My husband has PTSD doing what the government directed him to and he has no help.

Nestle did the same to African babies and engineered a situation where parents either buy their unaffordable baby formula or starved. Don't worry though just Africans Trump forever!!!
@MatthewBretton-cu2el They also made water 💦 unaffordable in certain places in Africa by installing pay water pumps. PAY for water or DIE. In a region where people had neither money nor water

It's NOT just the money. It's that we are taught from our youngest years to lust for the things that money can buy, to ignore the value of what we have, to develop resistance to people, to grasp always for more things, to be endlessly restless, to devalue fundamental humanity, to NOT see or make use of our deep powers of intelligence, empathy, and perception, to fight endlessly without thinking about what we are doing.
My mom was a very practical woman. Where most women used Vaseline and baby powder, she saw them as an unnatural grease and ground up rock which isn't going to absorb anything. She used Crisco and corn starch. Now Crisco is no prize and we now know it is bad to eat but.... 60-70 years ago it was fine for smearing on bottoms and corn starch actually absorbs moisture.
Corn starch is a better product for absorbing body fluids and preventing urine burn from the ammonia it turns into which causes diaper rash to begin with. (Clearly a more prompt cleaning is just as effective).

When I was 23(67 now), I watched my father die slowly and painfully in an oxygen tent in our living room from mesothelioma. At night he begged my mother to kill him. We were told then his smoking caused it. He worked in the construction industry where asbestos was used to fireproof steel buildings. If J&J knew about this in the 1960’s the executives should be held personally criminally liable.
My friends mom worked for them, she was the one pushing for offshore production until it she realized that the production quality was dropping that she blew the whistle, she didn't work there for much longer
Dangerous move by J&J. By separating a bad product into a bad company and then making that company disappear, that could be used against them as an admission of guilt or at least as an undeniable attempt to not have to deal with mistakes of the past.
As a retired UPS Union worker, It is crucial you organize and have a union if you want to have a good life and something waiting for you after giving much to your life to a corporation. You need representation and you can only get that from a Union. People need to be represented and have a fighting chance and not be let go if management doesn’t like you. Fair days work for a fair days pay. It will always be a numbers game. Each new Manager that fills a seat must out perform the previous one or they get demoted. It’s a terrible game at your expense. It’s really payed off having a Union on your side. The little bit of dues outweigh the benefits by far. Good Luck on Organizing. I’m so tired of people struggling 😢

The CEOs are there to take the downfall for the actual owner of the big company. These owners are protected by lawyers laws government and gated properties. That’s who should be brought to justice. And I did not forget about the stake holders.
If you plucked one of these suits from around the boardroom table, sat him down, showed him what his company actually did to people, and asked him "What the actual f**k is wrong with you?!", he'd probably feel some small measure of guilt and shame. But because these executive misery goblins operate like a giant hive-mind where blame is equally distributed and everyone's similarly complicit, they see nothing wrong with what they're doing. It's not Dave from Finance doing bad stuff. It's the company. Always the company. It's like their very identities are subsumed into this faceless, amoral money generator and anything they do is fine because they do it in service to free market capitalism. "We have a fiduciary duty to our shareholders!" It's right up there with "Resistance is futile."

If they declare bankruptcy again everything J&J should be siezed and the company completely shuttered. Its time for bankruptcy to actually mean bankruptcy again and not be a get out of jail card for these companies. Past that, they already should've been shut down just for the section 3:00 to 3:43. That alone should be grounds to shutter a company.
Bankruptcy laws were amended a few decades ago to remove protections from individuals declaring bankruptcy and reducing penalties for corps doing so, if you vote for politicians that are captured by corporate america (i.e. all of them with the exception of Bernie and maybe one or two others) you are responsible for this sht too.

Unfortunately, the answer to all of this is simple. Why do they do all of this?
Money. It's ALWAYS the money.

As a retired UPS Union worker, It is crucial you organize and have a union if you want to have a good life and something waiting for you after giving much to your life to a corporation. You need representation and you can only get that from a Union. People need to be represented and have a fighting chance and not be let go if management doesn’t like you.
