    That Vibroverb and the strat. That’s the sound we all know and love. That Concert with the Les Paul was pretty awesome too. Sounded like the beginning of “Still the One” with the chords.

    A 1961 Fender Concert is truly the one I wish I never let go. Awesome dynamics, perfect time, and the P10R's make for the perfect stage amp... Awesome memories, and awesome demo!

    Amazing shootout, all amps sounded good and you both played great.

    They sound somewhere in between a tweed and a blackface. It's so cool how you can hear the circuit evolution. Listening to this you can still hear the raunchiness of the tweed amps but there was also that bit of blackface sparkle in them. You can definitely tel where Fender was going.

    Fantastic review. I was blown away with the effect an open vs closed backed speaker cabinet has on the sound. I guess I have never seen that demonstrated side by side like that.

      Nick Benjamin * that amps got like 4 dimensions to it that make out just spectacular! out of this world. I'm gonna go play with my amp collection and try to emulate some of what I heard here even though the only thing that I have that comes close to this is my bassman 50 head, but I'm gonna go restock out now. thanks for the inspiring amps and guitars. your great.

      they aren't even demonstrating what the concert is capable of though. i own a 1960 concert, its a very rare variant of it as well. with the true vibrato, and the p10r's its so versatile though. you can impact any part of the frequencies with the amp. literally any sound, any place in the tone you want to alter, its there. its my most versatile amp. and its very very clean. someone though patched my speakers and ruined the cones before i got it.

    Damn! That Pro!!!! I love the sound and response of 15s for guitar; I feel that they are greatly overlooked. However, every time I hear a Bassman including mine it reminds me that every era of bassman tweed- 70s silverface just sounds like rock n roll!!!!! I love your videos!! I hope you and your family is well and please keep up the good work! Thanks brother!

    Browns and blondes are my favorite Fender amps especially the 40 watters. That Pro sounds fantastic! Pro, super, vibroverb, bandmaster, pro reverb, concert, etc. It's hard to go wrong with a 40 watt fender from any era, but the two knob bass/treble stack with presence control are the cream the crop! I played a 63 vibroverb for a long time, I went to pickout a 2x10 amp from an old hippy guy when I was younger, for my choice at $700 he had the brown vibroverb and a K&M (two rock) prototype built in a blackface bandmaster chassis in a 2x10 combo. I couldn't decide for the longest time between the two until I cranked them up and ran the vibrato on the vibroverb against the optical vibrato on the two rock. That sealed the deal on picking the vibroverb. In hindsight I really wish I could have bought them both, but that wouldn't be the first amp that got away...

    When you first dug into that '61 Concert with a LP, I expected you to start playing the Beatles "Revolution". It's got that beautifully harsh midrange bite. But I think if I HAD to take one, it would be the '63 Vibroverb. ;) Another great video, much appreciated Johan!

    I own a '63 Concert, but if I were picking based on this shootout, I'd have to give the nod to the Pro. That one sounded particularly great IMO. Well, friend... I must say I'm totally stumped on this one. They all sound SO GOOD! No clear winner here for me! Every one has it's thing and isn t necessarily well-rounded. Maybe the Twin? Anyway, great playing, and thanks for the beautiful demos!

  • @agtronic
    @agtronic 7 лет назад +1

    That Twin sounds MONEY. But overall, I think most of the tone differences we're hearing here are the result of the different speakers. It'd be interesting to hear each amp through one cab, though that might be a challenge considering they are set up for different impedance. Thanks for yet another informative video!

    Great vid as always. I'd LOVE to hear the reverb channel of that Vibroverb though. Even when the reverb is turned off, that extra gain stage adds something to the mix that makes it a little less "dry" sounding than the other Browns imho.

      PS The Bassman with closed cab is the only one that doesn't quite work in my honest opinion. Maybe run clean with a reverb unit for surf sounds. Eq is just a little strange for cranked guitar.

    The Bassman just crushes with the Les Paul, though. So big, crunchy and clear. And I'm partial to the Strat with the Pro and the Concert. But all the other combinations are almost as good.

    Great video! I would want to push that Bassman with a distortion and play stoner rock riffs, it had a nice sag.

    Hey Johan! Thank you for this great video! did you feel too much bass on the open back Fender amps playing with the Gibson Les Paul?
    im playing a 1965 Vibrolux and the bass amount with less paul is crazy

    These brown face amps are I think my favorite of any amps you demoed. And I usually don't even like fender amps.

    They all sounded great, the '62 Twin was my favorite but the Bassman was darn close.
    These amps were much more consistent in their tone than the Black Faced models from the other day. Today's choices were much closer than the previous Fender shootout. These Brown amps sound better as a group to me.

    Hi, great comparison... do you by any chance know the exact circuit of the Bassman used in this shoutout, a 6G6-A or 6G6-B?

    I see you plugged into the normal channel on the vibroverb, should have played it with the reverb and vibrato. Maybe in another video.
    Thanks for spending thousands to show us how they all sound.
    I’m getting ready to build a 63 vibroverb with p12p speakers from 1958 and a set of triad transformers.
    I’ve got 6600 ohm primary and 5,000 ohm primary impedance triad output transformers. Which should I use?

    They sounded great, but I must say I liked the blackface models you compared a few days ago, they seemed to have a smoother crunchier saturation. These were a little bit, how do the British say,"pokey". Were they recorded with same types of microphones and conditions. Just curious.

    These are really great sounding! How loud are these amps when they're cranked?

    • @JohanSegeborn
      @JohanSegeborn  7 лет назад +2

      +Yann E. Thanks, the Twin is extremely loud with 80W going into those efficient JBLs. Probably as loud as a Super Lead half stack.
