I created my own trap using old computer fans, PVC pipes, a black light bulb and a sweaty, urine drenched sock. I made several of them for my parents house, which is a 5 acre lot filled with water pockets, a canal and lake. I estimate that in one week I caught over 1 billion mosquitoes.
In other words, the mosquito trap simply kills mosquitoes by doing cosplay as a hot, sweaty, moving animal. And people say cosplay is a waste of time as that is how a mosquito trap does it magic and beat those bugs at their own game
The screens on the bug zappers are either too big or to far apart to actually kill mosquitoes effectively. I have a 20 inch box fan set outside with a bag made from mosquito netting and it actually catches more mosquitoes than my mosquito-magnet does.
I have seen it before, we are thinking of deploying them across the whole city of lagos in Africa in the same way you would deploy streetlights to remove the threat of mosquitos.
I bought one of these at a garage sale for $30. I wasn't sure if is just out the 30 bucks or if they worked. They work. Mine uses very little propane. It'll actually run over 15 minutes off what's in the hose after I close the valve on the bottle. What I'm interested in finding out, is how does it make the fan run? The only electricity going to it is a AA battery for the starter. But, after it runs a couple of minutes, you can hear the fan ruining and watch it suck mosquitos in. The ones that get sucked in get dry roasted in the screen basket. After a night of running, the basket will almost be overflowing... Easily enough dried mosquitos to fill a cigarette pack in less then 24 hours. That fan is still a mystery to me after watching this video though.
@@rogernevez5187 yeah, but what makes the blades spin? A turbine? A cell that makes electricity when it gets cooked? As little propane as it uses there's no way its from the volume of propane coming through the hose.
and just to be clear, this device works by pretending to be a warm, sweaty animal, at least as far as mosquitoes are concerned. if you didn't catch that.
It needs a black light. Or uv b and instead of a glue trap it needs an electrified zapper. My papaw when he was alive had a plastic cage he would put a hairless cat inside, he named it skinny cat.. but when he would have people over or sit outside he would put the cat inside that plastic cage and the cage right by a big ass fan with fine mesh on one side.. by the end of the night that fan would be full of mosquitoes.. never used any tiki torches or anything.. genius.. the cat didnt feel left out or bad for being in the cage and it was big enough he could walk around a bit but the thing was massively overweight.. smelled like an armpit.. all the time.. which i think helped with the mosquitoes..
Hmmmmm, I wonder if we could turn those piles of dead mosquitoes into a profitable product of some sort? I'd buy a few of these machines and take them up into the arctic during the summer when there are billions of the buggers everywhere. Spend a summer farming them and then sell them as an environmentally friendly protein source to vegans or maybe turn them into fish food or something...
what about that thing that looks like a rectangular cage with light blue lights or purple which attracts them and kills them ? first time i see this kind of trap
I had such a trap and it caught insect eating birds, their wings were easy pray for the sticky paper. Killed three poor birds before discarding the sticky paper!
your music is a worse killer then the mosquito trap xD
I wish there were more "How It Works" videos just like this one, like a parallel video series to "How It's Made"
Joshua Szanto welp this is deconstructed from science channel.

This is one of the most interesting videos I have watched on RUclips... Great stuff and very educational.
You don't go out much do you?...
@@raybois No mate. I lead a very sheltered life. LOL.
So would mosquitoes be more attracted to this then say... a human that is sitting next to it?
if you intend to use it in the bedroom remember to open the windows. otherwise you will breathe in too much carbon d ioxide
It also creates carbon monoxide - far more dangerous.
I have seen it before, we are thinking of deploying them across the whole city of lagos in Africa in the same way you would deploy streetlights to remove the threat of mosquitos.
think of all the blacks you'll save!
That's pretty cool.

can you tell us where did you buy this piece of art? or at least a brand name?
> "how does it make the fan run?"
The energy source is the propane.

moss-kee-tow
Sweet!
"stuck, trapped, unable to get free". yes, that is what trapped means.

are they paying by he pixel?
@epicka, yes.
Wait, how do the mosquitoes die in the grille? The fan only sucks them in there, not kill them.

They eat mosquito burger patties in Africa somewhere. Heck even I'd try it

Shocker...
Supposedly blue light does not attract them - it attracts other insects but mosqs are unharmed...at least this is what I read lately
@Pokefreak493 make that 4
there would be more but theyre all going to funerals generated by the trap
this cost over 1200€ in greece 😂

Hey narrator - mosquites don't sting, genius. They bite.
mbaxter22 no, they stick their needle like mouth into us, basically stinging
They don't "bite" ...... genius.
"It only targets the ladies." Don't tell that to the feminists. Meanwhile can someone invent a repellent for this species of bugs?
Over complicated.
the stupid music is annoying..
BS
Over produced video.
Obviously made for T.V.
Sponsored by the mosquito trap company ????
