How I Fixed My Mosquito Magnet

  • In this video I have a Mosquito Magnet that does not work. I decide to take it apart and try to repair it. The Mosquito Magnet is two years old, and this year (2024) would make it three years old. The first year after about 6 months of continuous use the power supply stopped working and I purchased a new one for around $50.00. The Mosquito Magnet was put away for the winter and on thew second year it would not work the power light just blinked. I worked on it some and ordered some CO2 cartridges to clean out the propane line but never got around to actually fixing the Mosquito Magnet. This year I decided to fix the unit or throw it away. Well, I took it apart and cleaned the thermistor. I checked everything else and reassembled the Mosquito Magnet. It has been working ever since.

Thank you for such a clear and well done explanation video of what parts are there, how to check them, and possibly fix them :) Greetings from Estonia!

This was my problem. Pulled the thermistor and cleaned it up with steel wool. Now it's working. I've spent many hours trying to solve the problem and you helped me get it working. Thanks for the video.

I did not think comments like yours would make me feel so good. I spend a lot of time making these videos and sometimes I wonder if it really makes a difference or helps anyone. I am glad I could help you.

Ran great for a year, did not work year 2. I did pretty much all you did in the video, still n/g. I had called Mosquito Magnet peeps and they said I had to take it to an authorized dealer ($100) for servicing which the only one in my area is 65 miles away. Dropped it off and when I was headed back home the tech called me back and said "It's Fixed". Really , that fast? Well, it worked for 1 tank of gas and stopped working again- Going to try what you did cleaning the thermmistor again.. or throw it out a window. When it did work, it worked great.

That is the big dilemma, when it works it really does a good job, but the m-magnet isn't cheap. I looked on-line for the thermistor and could not find one. Good luck with yours.

Well, i twisted off the part of the brass 3/4 inch where it enters the solenoid disc trying to open it. Opposite the purge side. May I ask where you got your replacement parts?@diyhomefront1695

Thank you very much! I look at many instruktionvideos on youtube and I must say that you must be one of the absolut best I ever seen! The way you explain each step and explain what every part does and also beeing onest with what you know and what parts you are guessing and so on. Laughed a hole bunch also on your comments on the stupid ”redblinking light system” and the fustration on the time one has to wait every time you have to start the machine again once its time to test if your actions made any differnce or not!😂 Since I dont write in english I know my spelling and grama is a bit f.. up 😂 but I hope I’ve been able to show my grattitude to this video and now its time to disemble the M.magnet and see if can make mine work with the help from your video! Thanks 👍🏻

you might want to get some brass type small in size brushes. H.F. has some ect. now as far as your heated tip element, you can also clean it with these brass brushes and that also will help with a faster start up.

These tips sound like they came from experience. Have you had the opportunity to work on a Mosquito magnet too? Hard to find parts for them.

A Word of caution regarding the burner/filter apparature! In the film, the hole thing easily slips out when the screw is removed. In my unit, it would not come loose so I twisted it with a spanner. It kinda snapped and I kept twisting back and forth. Big mistake! For my model, you have to take the manifold apart in order to service the filter. Now I have an aluminium sleeve stuck halfway so that it covers the filter hex nut. I might have busted the hole thing😢. When you look close on the film you see that it's smooth on the sides where the screw is. On mine, there are some casting dots on both sides that makes pressure on the mentioned aluminium sleeve.

I’m currently INVESTIGATED in fixing mine. Still won’t work.. new tank, cycled many times. I hired glows cherry red, tested thermistor Ohms..works, disassembled the combustion chamber and cleaned, Solenoid has been disassembled and cleaned. Clicks on when it’s supposed to. Changed o-ring on the nozzle… EVERYTHING! My “eraser head”(filter) is still gold. But my last thing to try is to clean that by soaking it over night in some carburetor cleaner. After that….i guess it’s trash!

I feel your pain, do not want to admit defeat when you're sure you have checked everything, and IT SHOULD WORK. Don't forget to run the tank at only partially open not full open.

So.. I did get it working. But not for long. :( took a week off for a brain break from the thing. Gonna try and look into maybe the seals in the regulator. One might be faulty. Or the whole regulator itself. *sigh* Can you believe they are still selling these dang things in store!? They are so faulty after one season!

@@vanessaadney6125 I am also surprised that there are very limited parts available for these too. I do not like mosquitoes, but these m-magnets are not cheap, they should work better and last longer. Keep up the good fight and let us know if you get it working and what was your fix. I am on my third propane tank since i got mine going.

Wow those are some really kind words. Thanks very much. I just wanted to make videos of my life and what I do around the house hoping I could help others. Before you disassemble your m-magnet try it with the gas turned down from all the way open or on to half or less open. I do not know for sure, but I have a filling in my gut that was my problem. Good Luck fixing yours, they are not cheap but when m-magnet works it does help with getting rid of the mosquitoes.
